HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — A 52 year-old man was found dead inside a kangaroo and wallaby enclosure with 'multiple blunt force injuries,' at a South Carolina farm just outside of Loris, police said. The deceased, Eric State, was discovered in the facility, located on Highway 746, just before midnight, Horry County authorities said. An autopsy is planned as officers continue to investigate. Horry County council member Dennis DiSabato told News13 Saturday a kangaroo was directly involved in State's death. While kangaroo and wallaby attacks aren't all that common, they can still happen. Back in 2022, a 77 year-old man was killed in Western Australia after reportedly being attacked by his pet kangaroo. At that time, University of Melbourne reported it was believed to be the first deadly kangaroo attack since 1936 in the country. The university explains that kangaroos are very strong, with 'powerful arms and massive feet' — not to mention long and sharp nails.
