Five busted in $500K-plus Windsor whisky heist — hunt continues for others

The whisky was top-shelf, and so was the crime — smooth, aged, and worth more than half a million dollars. Article content The Windsor Police Service on Friday announced the arrests of five suspects, with the hunt continuing for two more tied to a $500,000-plus night-time alcohol heist in the city last month. Article content Article content Investigators said the suspects broke into a fenced-in facility located in the 3300 block of Devon Drive, located near Windsor's Devonshire Heights neighbourhood, shortly before 9 p.m. on May 17, 2025. Article content The Windsor police 'target base unit' launched an investigation and soon identified five suspects connected to the boozy heist. Officers determined that a cube van stolen earlier from a business in the 1000 block of Walker Road in Windsor was also connected to the crime. Article content Article content Following arrests in Windsor and Essex County, the five suspects face a raft of charges, including each being charged with a count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence: Jason Greenwood, 46 (nine criminal counts, including break and enter and theft; theft of motor vehicle; possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000); Anthony Nelson, 57 (six counts); Erica Nelson, 44 (four counts); Justin Vachon, 27 (two counts); and William Girard, 49 (one count). Article content Article content The first suspect is described as approximately 40 years of age, with a dark-coloured full beard. At the time of the incident, he wore a baseball hat and a dark-coloured hoodie. Article content The second suspect is approximately 30 years of age. At the time of the incident, he wore a dark-coloured hoodie with the hood up, black shorts, and black shoes.
