Five busted in $500K-plus Windsor whisky heist — hunt continues for others

The Windsor Police Service on Friday announced the arrests of five suspects, with the hunt continuing for two more tied to a $500,000-plus night-time alcohol heist in the city last month.

Investigators said the suspects broke into a fenced-in facility located in the 3300 block of Devon Drive, located near Windsor's Devonshire Heights neighbourhood, shortly before 9 p.m. on May 17, 2025.

The Windsor police 'target base unit' launched an investigation and soon identified five suspects connected to the boozy heist. Officers determined that a cube van stolen earlier from a business in the 1000 block of Walker Road in Windsor was also connected to the crime.

Following arrests in Windsor and Essex County, the five suspects face a raft of charges, including each being charged with a count of conspiracy to commit an indictable offence: Jason Greenwood, 46 (nine criminal counts, including break and enter and theft; theft of motor vehicle; possession of stolen property exceeding $5,000); Anthony Nelson, 57 (six counts); Erica Nelson, 44 (four counts); Justin Vachon, 27 (two counts); and William Girard, 49 (one count).

The first suspect is described as approximately 40 years of age, with a dark-coloured full beard. At the time of the incident, he wore a baseball hat and a dark-coloured hoodie.

The second suspect is approximately 30 years of age. At the time of the incident, he wore a dark-coloured hoodie with the hood up, black shorts, and black shoes.

The investigation continues and police said more arrests are anticipated. The stolen booze remains missing.
