Traffic on Pensacola Beach is on the rise, according to Escambia County engineers, and while they are tapping into cutting-edge technology to ease traffic jams, for now there's only so much that can be done about delays and congestion. The traffic issue was the focus of a townhall meeting at the Santa Rosa Island Authority on May 28, held by Escambia County Commissioner Ashlee Hofberger who represents District 4 where the beach is located. Traffic engineers gave an overview of the sheer number of vehicles Pensacola Beach has seen over the past decade, as well as the tools they are currently using to cut down on congestion and delays. The information was obtained from a public information request to the Santa Rosa Sheriff's Office. The department's Internal Affairs (IA) investigation found that Deputy Zachary MacPherson violated the sheriff's office policy of Standard of Conduct/Integrity, which states members should not engage in any conduct that constitutes conduct unbecoming a member or any act that is likely to adversely affect the discipline, good order, or reputation of the agency or that tends to compromise the integrity of the member. 'I did wrong.': Santa Rosa deputy who flung autistic Milton man to ground suspended The executive director of the Pensacola Little Theatre has resigned amid a review of the organization's finances. A statement was released by Pensacola Little Theatre's Board of Trustees on May 28 that says recent concerns regarding 'disputed expenses' were brought to the attention of members of the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees waived the 90-day notice of resignation and Saunders' last day will be July 13. She has served as UWF president since January 2017. Escambia County deputy shoots at armed suspect — FDLE investigating
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — The Escambia County Sheriff's Office responded to a trespassing complaint on Plantation Road Sunday night. While heading towards the call, one deputy heard several shots fired. Mobile County jury awards man $6 million after 2022 tractor trailer crash When the deputy got out of his patrol unit, he was confronted by a male suspect. Investigators said the suspect had a gun, prompting the deputy to open fire. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for treatment. His condition and the extent of injuries have not been released. Investigators have not said whether the suspect's wounds were caused by the deputy or from rounds fired prior to the deputy arriving at the location. Road work to begin over Eleven Mile Creek Bridge in Escambia County, Florida
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — Road work is set to begin on Kingsfield Road, also known as County Road 186, over the Eleven Mile Creek Bridge on the eastbound lane. Medical emergency leads to crash in Escambia County, Florida, FHP says The work is set to begin Tuesday, May 27, according to an Escambia County, Florida, news release. The road will be restricted to one lane as crews work on repairs to the guardrail and other general maintenance. Drivers are encouraged to be cautious as traffic over the bridge will be limited to one lane with workers present. Local traffic as well as pedestrians, and residents should not expect to lose access to properties in the area but may experience road and driveway blockages from equipment and materials. The maintenance is expected to be complete in approximately 45 days, but may be subject to change depending on weather. Medical emergency leads to crash in Escambia County, Florida, FHP says
ESCAMBIA COUNTY, Fla. (WKRG) — Florida Highway Patrol officials believe a medical emergency was the cause of a Sunday morning crash in Escambia County. Locals, tourists flock to Gulf Shores for Memorial Day getaway According to a Florida Highway Patrol news release, a truck was traveling east on Interstate 10 near mile marker 7 around 11:15 a.m. when the driver suffered a medical emergency, possibly a seizure, and lost control of the truck. The front-seat passenger attempted to get control of the car but was unable to, FHP officials said. The truck, which was pulling a camper trailer, ran off the road to the right. When it ran onto the grassy median, the camper trailer came loose from the truck and turned over. The truck continued another 50 yards into the woods, according to the release. Everyone in the truck, which included a 44-year-old man (the driver), a 46-year-old woman, a 23-year-old woman, a 16-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy, was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital, the release said.
