AstroFest: The great celebration of astronomy at the Planétarium Français
MONTRÉAL, May 20, 2025 /CNW/ - On June 7 and 8, the Planétarium will be all decked for the AstroFest—a free, unifying event to which Espace pour la vie invites you. Whether you're driven by a budding curiosity or a consuming passion for the cosmos, the AstroFest is sure to win you over with its rich program on the theme of "Mars – Life in Red". Over the past 5 years, the AstroFest has become THE annual rendezvous for stargazers. During the day, there are scientific activities for the whole family, and on Saturday evening, cosmic buffs are invited to an evening of marshmallows, telescopes, lectures, DJs, and cocktails! Mars in the spotlight A planet that has been the stuff of space travel fantasies for centuries, Mars is the star of the ROUGE 2100 exhibition, which will be open free of charge until midnight for the occasion! The red planet, which will be visible in the sky, high above the horizon, from dusk onwards, will also be at the heart of the activities on offer throughout the day. This is a phenomenon that only happens every 26 months! Although we know more about certain regions of the Martian surface than we do about the bottom of the Earth's oceans, there is still so much to explore on this "neighbouring" planet. Learn about astronomy, have a good time, and broaden your knowledge Telescope observations of the Sun (by day) and of the Moon and Mars (by night), face painting, street entertainment, storytelling for children, festive food ($) and a variety of events designed to appeal to a wide audience—the table is set for a great celebration of astronomy! For more than 25 years, the end of May at the Jardin botanique has been synonymous with horticultural tips, exchanges between horticulture enthusiasts, and discovering a host of products to grow your garden or brighten up your balcony. The Great Gardening Weekend is organized in collaboration with the Friends of the Montréal Botanical Garden. Gardening is great, but gardening in a community is even better! Families, amateurs, specialists, friends and citizens are invited to come and reconnect with nature and their fellow human beings—and share their passion for horticulture. The Great Gardening Weekend at the Jardin botanique has something for everyone. Whether you're looking for new plants to pretty up your flower beds, want to introduce new flavours to your vegetable garden, or learn how to design and care for your garden, come and make new friends while sharing your experiences, knowledge and tips. A workshop tent to cultivate your knowledge Want to take your learning up a notch? The Great Gardening Weekend workshops (included in Jardin botanique admission) offer you a great opportunity to cultivate your knowledge. Making seed bombs, protecting your vegetable garden from pests, vermicomposting, edible plants, planning your garden, and even pruning a small bonsai tree with your family (for 6-12 year-olds) are just some of the workshops on offer. Creative Sparks A few highlights of this year's program: Chloé Savard (aka Tardibabe), who reveals the beauty of the infinitely small; Dr. Michelle Houde, the most colourful and creative medical popularizer on social networks; Michel Rochon, who explores the impact of music on the brain; slam poet Élémo; cartoonist Tristan Demers; and Anne Nguyen, from the Conseil de l'innovation du Québec, who shows how AI can be a lever to innovation. Not to be missed in this 18 th edition: the Canadian premiere of the Meridian Probe, a poetic scientific installation by Nicolas Reeves, son of the late Hubert Reeves; the art restoration workshop led by Lucile Berthelot; a conference on indigenous knowledge led by Melissa Mollen-Dupuis; and an unusual sensory experience from BAnQ featuring electronic music, mushrooms and the sounds of nature.
