Max Verstappen is just like Michael Schumacher

The more I watch Max Verstappen, the more convinced I am that he truly is the second coming of Michael Schumacher in Formula 1. Sadly, I mean that in ways both good and bad. In terms of both his talent and temperament. Anyone who tries to deny he is one of the greatest racers F1 has ever seen is not to be taken seriously. They're probably just trying to belittle his achievements because of tribalistic fandom – there are plenty who will never forgive him for denying Lewis Hamilton an eighth crown in 2021. But Verstappen's most staunch defenders, those who claim the Dutchman can do no wrong and that any Brit who offers a critical word is blinded by nationalism, are equally deluded. Because there remains a part of the four-time F1 champion which remains impetuous, unsportsmanlike and simply infuriating. And it reared its ugly head in Spain on Sunday. Once Max saw red there was nothing stopping him and, suddenly, he had banged wheels with George Russell. We can't say for sure that it was deliberate, but his response of: "Does it matter?" when asked if it was spoke volumes. And the data paint a pretty clear picture, too. Telemetry from Verstappen's car in the moments leading up to that collision shows that he lifted off and braked on the run down to turn five, seemingly allowing Russell by, as he had been instructed to do by his Red Bull race engineer Gianpiero Lambiase. But then he hits the throttle again heading into the corner and you didn't need the telemetry to see what he was doing with his steering. Even watching on from outside the car, it seemed pretty obvious that he consciously understeered to the point he banged wheels with Russell. "What the f***?" was the Brit's response over the radio. It was a question thousands of others watching on from home would have asked, too. In that moment, anyone who might have believed that being a four-time title-winner and a new father might have changed Verstappen was swiftly disabused of that notion. Russell was right when he said it was a shame that a driver of Verstappen's calibre and standing also has an unfortunate knack of setting a horrible example for young racers everywhere. But he's just like Schumacher in that regard. Formula 1 fans can watch every practice, qualifying and race live with Sky's new Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle in a new deal that saves £192. As well as Sky Sports access, this includes more than 100 TV channels and free subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+. We often look back at the German's F1 career with a romantic view and newer fans to the sport in particular may only be aware of his remarkable accomplishments and status as the only other seven-time champion alongside Hamilton in history. But he too had an unsportsmanlike dark side – he won his first title by ramming Damon Hill at Adelaide in 1994, and that's just one example. Verstappen is cut from the same cloth. He's the best F1 driver of his generation and one of the very best ever who will do anything to win, even if it crosses the line. That's why he'll probably be booed again by some fans at the British Grand Prix next month – assuming he doesn't do anything at Red Bull's home race in Austria a week earlier to ensure he doesn't have to make the trip to Silverstone. But will it tarnish his legacy, when Verstappen one day decides to retire? Based on how Schumacher is viewed nowadays, probably not.

Sky pay day deal cuts TV, Netflix and fibre broadband back to its 'lowest price' ever

Sky has brought back a popular deal from its Easter sale offering a TV, Netflix and broadband bundle for a record low price to rival Virgin Media and BT Sky has launched a flash pay day sale that's dropped a popular TV and broadband bundle back to its 'lowest price' ever. The provider has just brought back a popular deal from its Easter sale that offers the Essential TV and Full Fibre 300 broadband package for £35 per month and also includes 300Mbps fibre broadband for the cost of 150Mbps. Sky said 'our lowest ever price is back' as it unveiled the new round of deals, which have also seen the Ultimate TV and Full Fibre 300 broadband bundle – which includes more than 35 extra channels – reduced to £39. Sky's Full Fibre 300 usually comes in at £29 per month without any TV access, but the current deals also include more than 100 channels such as Sky Atlantic, Sky Sports News, and free-to-air channels like BBC, ITV and Channel 4. Both plans also come with free subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+, with the option to add Sky Cinema and Sky Sports to the package for an £10 and £20 respectively. All of this is accessible via Sky Stream, the brand's latest device that delivers TV and streaming services through WiFi instead of a traditional satellite dish. Sky has recently introduced the new One Touch Switch scheme, which means customers don't have to contact their existing broadband provider to make the switch. In a move to simplify customer transitions, Sky has taken on the responsibility of contacting customers' previous providers, reports the Mirror. It's important to note that Sky's TV and broadband packages are tied to 24-month plans, with the company indicating that its prices 'may change' during the minimum term. This year, Sky's TV and broadband prices went up by 6.2%, hinting at the possibility of a comparable hike next April. Notably, Sky is among the few providers offering subscribers the option to exit their contracts early if a price hike is announced. Sky's TV and broadband deals offer stuff competition for Virgin Media's Bigger Combo bundle, which delivers more than 200 TV channels and 362Mbps fibre broadband for £34.99 a month, but lacks access to Sky Atlantic, Netflix and Discovery+. Sky also beats BT and EE's comparable Big Entertainment and Full Fibre 300 plan, which is on offer at £48.99 per month for six months. Even with this discount, the plan is more than £600 more expensive over the 24-month term once the price reverts to the usual £63.99 rate. Sky members have been singing praises for the brand on Trustpilot, where one five-star review says: "Sky Stream is a game changer. Switched a few weeks back and it's the best decision I've ever made. Installation takes care of itself, the remote even auto tunes itself to the TV. The best part is though the ability to have a single charge for all your streaming subscriptions." This customer left a mixed review, saying: "I wasn't happy with the service provided by Sky, phoned up to change my deal and was passed around like a parcel. Eventually I got to speak to someone who knew what they were doing. I am happy my issue was finally resolved but took a lot of work." But another happy customer said: "I've been with lots of companies to get my TV and internet but the best service I have received out of them all is Sky. We did change to other companies because of the price but always go back to Sky."

Sky's cheapest ever TV, Netflix and broadband deal is back

Sky has once again cut the price of its Essential TV and Full Fibre 300 broadband to a record low to rival Virgin Media and BT Sky has brought back a popular TV and broadband bundle that's seen prices drop to their 'lowest ever' in a surprise pay day deal. Just weeks after calling time on its Easter sale, Sky has once again reduced its Essential TV and Full Fibre 300 broadband bundle to £35 per month and is offering 300Mbps fibre broadband for the price of 150Mbps. Sky said 'our lowest ever price is back' as it announced the sale, which has also seen the Ultimate TV and Full Fibre 300 broadband bundle – which includes more than 35 extra channels – drop to £39. Sky's Full Fibre 300 usually costs £29 per month without any TV access, but the latest deals also provide access to more than 100 channels including Sky Atlantic, Sky Sports News, and major free-to-air channels like BBC, ITV and Channel 4. The combined bundles also include free Netflix and Discovery+ subscriptions, with the option to add Sky Cinema and Sky Sports for an extra £10 and £20 respectively. All of this is delivered via Sky Stream, the brand's new gadget that provides TV and streaming access through WiFi instead of a traditional satellite dish. Sky is now among the providers to introduce the new One Touch Switch scheme, which means customers don't have to contact their existing broadband provider to complete the switch. With this, Sky will do the necessary leg work on behalf of the customer, reports the Express. It's also worth noting that to secure the cheaper prices, you'll need to commit to a 24-month plan, while Sky states the price of its TV and broadband plans 'may change' during this period. This includes the annual price hike in April implemented by many firms each year. Earlier this year, Sky announced a 6.2% increase to its TV and broadband prices, so we may expect a similar rise in April 2026. Despite this, Sky stands out by giving customers the option to terminate their contract early should a price rise be announced. Sky's new round of deals puts it head to head with Virgin's Bigger Combo bundle, which offers more than 200 channels and 362Mbps fibre broadband for £34.99. Although this is a penny cheaper than Sky and around 60Mbps faster, Virgin does not offer Sky Atlantic or Netflix, which could be a deal-breaker for some. Another rival is BT and EE's Big Entertainment and Full Fibre 300 plan, which is on offer at £48.99 per month for six months but ends up costing more than £600 extra over the contract term once it reverts to the standard £63.99 rate. Sky customers have been posting their positive experiences of the brand on Trustpilot, where one glowing review said: "Sky Stream is a game changer. Switched a few weeks back and it's the best decision I've ever made. Installation takes care of itself, the remote even auto tunes itself to the TV. The best part is the ability to have a single charge for all your streaming subscriptions." However, this less-impressed customer said: "I wasn't happy with the service provided by Sky, phoned up to change my deal and was passed around like a parcel. Eventually, I got to speak to someone who knew what they were doing. I am happy my issue was finally resolved but took a lot of work." Another consumer said: "I've been with lots of companies to get my TV and internet but the best service I have received out of them all is Sky. We did change to other companies because of the price but always go back to Sky."

Fulham plot raid on Premier League rival for new boss if Marco Silva quits club

Marco Silva has plenty of admirers. (Image: AFP via Getty Images) Wolves boss Vitor Pereira is viewed as a top candidate to become Fulham's next coach if Marco Silva decides to leave Craven Cottage this summer, according to reports. Silva has overseen a spell of relative success in West London with Fulham on course to finish in the top half if their result against Manchester City on Sunday afternoon matches that of Bournemouth 's against Leicester City. But the Portuguese is also being linked with a switch to Tottenham, should they decide to part ways with Ange Postecoglou following a dire domestic campaign and Europa League glory. Pereira, meanwhile, has worked wonders at Wolves since taking over mid-season - guiding a side staring relegation in the face to safety with weeks to spare off the back of a six-game winning streak. Silva, meanwhile, spoke ambivalently about his future at Fulham on Friday when asked about talks over a new contract. Last week suggestions were made that talks had broken down, which Silva has said is wrong because no negotiations have taken place yet. "No, not at all. We didn't even start,' Silva said. "I know there are some rumours around that I refused something but from my side, it's not true at all. Vitor Pereira has won hearts and minds at Wolves. (Image: Wolves via Getty Images) "Our connection is very, very strong and it's clear there are so many things for the club to be careful about with players' contract situations, there are many important decisions ahead with the summer coming up after a great season where we improved like all the other years before. "We managed to reach some great numbers again, the best Premier League points tally in our history and if you want to improve, you have to focus on the most important things. "I'm not saying the manager's situation is not important but I'm under contract with the club, I just wanted to clarify that the conversations didn't start and that's not for professional reasons but it was just not the moment." Lando Norris smashes Monaco GP record to deny Charles Leclerc pole

Charles Leclerc though he had secured a fourth career pole position at the Monaco Grand Prix – until Lando Norris denied the home hero. The McLaren man's quickest time was good enough not only for the top grid slot for Sunday's race but also to set a new track record for the Monte Carlo street circuit. It took less than 70 seconds for Norris to complete his final flying lap on Saturday. It was some way for the Brit to rediscover his best qualifying form after a run of disappointing results when it comes to setting the grid for races in recent weeks. But Norris was inch-perfect to get the better of Leclerc and make sure McLaren will line up first on Sunday. And Oscar Piastri made sure the Ferrari man will be in a Papaya sandwich as he bids to win his home race in successive seasons. Lewis Hamilton found good pace to qualify fourth, one place ahead of Max Verstappen. However, the seven-time F1 champion is at risk of a grid penalty after getting in the way of the Red Bull racer in the early stages of qualifying, with both called to visit the stewards. Elsewhere, it was a miserable day for Mercedes who saw both drivers failed to make the top 10. Kimi Antonelli crashed in Q1 while George Russell suffered an electrical issue which forced him to pull over and denied him the chance to compete for a place in Q3. Oliver Bearman knew he wasn't going to be starting very high up the grid after copping a 10-place grid penalty for failing to promptly slow for red flags during practice. And he knew he was guaranteed last place on the grid when he suffered a Q1 exit, just 17th on the timesheets. He might have made the cut had he not had to abandon his final flying lap, along with many others, because of that Antonelli crash. The Italian misjudged the entry to the chicane at the end of the famous tunnel section and caught the barrier on the left side of the car, which led to him going straight on and burying the front of the Mercedes. Pierre Gasly, Lance Stroll and Franco Colapinto were all slower than Bearman but will rise one place each because of the Haas driver's penalty. And Sauber racer Gabriel Bortoleto was the other driver who missed the cut in Q1. There was almost another crash when Verstappen was forced to abort a flying lap when he came across the slow-moving Ferrari of Hamilton. "F*** Lewis!" he fumed over the radio, while the Brit was angry with his race engineer for giving him conflicting information about how quickly the Red Bull was travelling. Antonelli's crash meant he could do no better than 15th place. And team-mate Russell also failed to make a bid for the top 10 as he suffered a mechanical issue and came to a stop inside the tunnel, leading to the session being red flagged for a second time as he tried but failed to get the Mercedes going again. Formula 1 fans can watch every practice, qualifying and race live with Sky's new Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle in a new deal that saves £192. As well as Sky Sports access, this includes more than 100 TV channels and free subscriptions to Netflix and Discovery+. That meant there were only three elimination places remaining. Nico Hulkenberg, who had done well to get through to Q2, was an unsurprising 13th but there were two more scalps as Yuki Tsunoda was only 12th fastest in the Red Bull and Carlos Sainz will have been disappointed to have not made it into the top 10 either. Leclerc cut a disappointed figure as he climbed out of his Ferrari, despite admitting it was "the best we could do". But he still got a huge cheer from his fellow Monegasques despite missing out on top spot to Norris in the end.
