Sky's cheapest ever TV, Netflix and broadband deal is back

Sky's cheapest ever TV, Netflix and broadband deal is back

Daily Mirror5 days ago

Sky has once again cut the price of its Essential TV and Full Fibre 300 broadband to a record low to rival Virgin Media and BT
Sky has brought back a popular TV and broadband bundle that's seen prices drop to their 'lowest ever' in a surprise pay day deal. Just weeks after calling time on its Easter sale, Sky has once again reduced its Essential TV and Full Fibre 300 broadband bundle to £35 per month and is offering 300Mbps fibre broadband for the price of 150Mbps.
Sky said 'our lowest ever price is back' as it announced the sale, which has also seen the Ultimate TV and Full Fibre 300 broadband bundle – which includes more than 35 extra channels – drop to £39. Sky's Full Fibre 300 usually costs £29 per month without any TV access, but the latest deals also provide access to more than 100 channels including Sky Atlantic, Sky Sports News, and major free-to-air channels like BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
The combined bundles also include free Netflix and Discovery+ subscriptions, with the option to add Sky Cinema and Sky Sports for an extra £10 and £20 respectively. All of this is delivered via Sky Stream, the brand's new gadget that provides TV and streaming access through WiFi instead of a traditional satellite dish.
Sky is now among the providers to introduce the new One Touch Switch scheme, which means customers don't have to contact their existing broadband provider to complete the switch. With this, Sky will do the necessary leg work on behalf of the customer, reports the Express.
It's also worth noting that to secure the cheaper prices, you'll need to commit to a 24-month plan, while Sky states the price of its TV and broadband plans 'may change' during this period. This includes the annual price hike in April implemented by many firms each year.
Earlier this year, Sky announced a 6.2% increase to its TV and broadband prices, so we may expect a similar rise in April 2026. Despite this, Sky stands out by giving customers the option to terminate their contract early should a price rise be announced.
Sky's new round of deals puts it head to head with Virgin's Bigger Combo bundle, which offers more than 200 channels and 362Mbps fibre broadband for £34.99. Although this is a penny cheaper than Sky and around 60Mbps faster, Virgin does not offer Sky Atlantic or Netflix, which could be a deal-breaker for some.
Another rival is BT and EE's Big Entertainment and Full Fibre 300 plan, which is on offer at £48.99 per month for six months but ends up costing more than £600 extra over the contract term once it reverts to the standard £63.99 rate.
Sky customers have been posting their positive experiences of the brand on Trustpilot, where one glowing review said: "Sky Stream is a game changer. Switched a few weeks back and it's the best decision I've ever made. Installation takes care of itself, the remote even auto tunes itself to the TV. The best part is the ability to have a single charge for all your streaming subscriptions."
However, this less-impressed customer said: "I wasn't happy with the service provided by Sky, phoned up to change my deal and was passed around like a parcel. Eventually, I got to speak to someone who knew what they were doing. I am happy my issue was finally resolved but took a lot of work."
Another consumer said: "I've been with lots of companies to get my TV and internet but the best service I have received out of them all is Sky. We did change to other companies because of the price but always go back to Sky."

Warner Bros Discovery shareholders reject 2024 executive pay

June 3 (Reuters) - A majority of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD.O), opens new tab shareholders voted against the 2024 pay packages of CEO David Zaslav and other top executives at the media conglomerate's annual stockholder meeting, a Tuesday regulatory filing showed. The board of directors had recommended shareholders to vote in favor of the 2024 executive compensation; however, more than 59% of them rejected the proposal on a non-binding basis. For 2024, Zaslav's total compensation rose 4% from the prior year to $51.9 million. Warner Bros Discovery has been struggling to stem declines in its cable TV business amid widespread cord-cutting, focusing instead on its faster-growing streaming and studios divisions. Last month, it missed first-quarter revenue estimates and posted a larger-than-expected loss. The company is also moving towards a potential breakup, CNBC reported last month. WBD had laid the groundwork for a possible sale or spinoff of its declining cable TV assets last December by announcing a separation from its streaming and studio operations. Powered by a strong content slate, including the third season of HBO's "The White Lotus" and the medical drama series "The Pitt", WBD added 5.3 million streaming subscribers in the January-March quarter, beating market expectations, but still far off from streaming industry leader Netflix (NFLX.O), opens new tab. The company last month also walked back on the branding of its streaming service, Max, bringing back the HBO name it dropped two years ago.

Adolescence becomes Netflix's second biggest English-language TV series

Adolescence has become Netflix's second biggest ever English language TV series. The critically acclaimed UK drama series knocked off Stranger Things after it reached a total of 141.2m views since its launch in March. The fourth season of the sci-fi drama had totalled 140.7m. The No 1 slot is still taken by the first season of Wednesday, which had 252.1m views in its first 91 days. The second season is scheduled to premiere in August. The highest non-English language show is the first season of Squid Game, which had 265.2m views in its first three months. The show had already made history in the UK becoming the first programme on a streaming platform to top the weekly audience charts. The news comes after the show swept the Gotham TV awards in New York, winning breakthrough limited series and two acting awards for stars Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper. 'We're overwhelmed for you to embrace us the way you have,' Graham said in his acceptance speech. 'This was a small colloquial piece that was made with love, respect, humility and dignity, and we treated the subject with a lot of passion, but a lot of care.' Adolescence tells the story of a 13-year-old boy who is arrested for the murder of a female classmate. Since its debut, it's scored a string of positive reviews and been praised for sparking vital conversations about the dangers of the online manosphere in radicalising young boys and men. The UK prime minister, Keir Starmer, has openly praised the series, saying it has served as 'a torch that shines intensely brightly on a combination of issues that many people don't know how to respond to'. The series, created with Brad Pitt's production company Plan B, is also expected to score a number of key Emmy nominations, which will be announced in July. It's been reported that a second season is being discussed with no additional details confirmed. 'Possibly, let's see how the figures are,' co-creator and star Graham told Variety when asked about a follow-up. 'But yeah, there's the possibility of developing another story.'

Clothing sale will be ‘largest Princess Diana auction ever'

Julien's Auctions' Princess Diana's Style And A Royal Collection live sale will take place on Thursday June 26 and will include clothing worn by the late Diana, Princess of Wales, with the aim of celebrating her style and preserving her legacy. Items include a silk floral printed day dress designed by Bellville Sassoon, estimated to fetch between 200,000 and 300,000 US dollars (£148,000 to £222,000), and an embroidered evening gown, designed by Catherine Walker, with the same estimated selling price. Martin Nolan, co-founder of Julien's Auctions, told the PA news agency: 'This is the largest Princess Diana auction ever. Diana herself did an auction in 1997 to raise money for charity, sadly two months before we tragically lost Diana. 'So now we have over 100 items representing her amazing life and her career, and of course, she's the mum of the future king of England, Prince William, so we have really iconic outfits. 'Diana was a style icon, she knew what to wear, when to wear it, what was appropriate, she knew how to send a message by what she was wearing. 'She was very shy, but she knew by the items of clothing, it became sort of her uniform if you will and, of course, with all the amazing power suits you see behind me, the message she sent. 'She knew how to dress when she went on a royal visit to Saudi Arabia, or the United Arab Emirates, and when she was going to a hospital, she knew to wear bright colours that sick children would feel that she was likeable, huggable, approachable, and she brought hope wherever she went.' Up for auction will be a collection of clothes and artefacts from British royal history, including items that belonged to the late Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother and other members of the royal family, some dating as far back as the 19th century. Nolan said the market for items relating to Diana had increased thanks to Netflix series The Crown. He said: 'The Crown certainly has introduced Diana to a whole new younger generation, and they relate to her and they love her, and they love her style, they love her innocence, they love her sense of fun. 'They love her messaging, and they love what she had to live through, the challenges she had to deal with, and she overcame them all, and so it's a success story. 'Sad ending, of course, but like the younger generation loved that, and that's why Diana's prices have been impacted so much, and are increasing more and more.' Elizabeth Emanuel, who designed a number of items of clothing for Diana, including her wedding dress, said: 'When Diana first came to us for all of these dresses, she didn't have a lot of ideas of her own, because fashion wasn't her number one subject 'She didn't really take much of an interest in it, and we were very lucky to have been involved with her at the beginning, when she was developing her own style. 'And then over the years, you could see her being more and more confident in what she was wearing and knowing her own style, so we were very lucky to have been there in the formative years.' Julien's Auctions held a sale of Diana's items last year, billed as the most extensive collection of Diana's personal belongings since 1997. The auction house previously sold one of Diana's gowns for 1.14 million US dollars (£843,000) and a pair of her shoes for 390,000 US dollars (£288,000). The live auction will take place at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, California, in the US, on Thursday June 26. A portion of the sale of the Diana items will benefit Muscular Dystrophy UK.
