According to police, it was stolen sometime between June 28 and July 12, 2025, from the area of Tecumseh Road and Lesperance Road in Tecumseh. OPP find $200,000 stolen backhoe on barge in Detroit River

The Essex County OPP Marine Unit recovered a stolen backhoe in the LaSalle Channel of the Detroit River. (Source: OPP) The Essex County OPP Marine Unit recovered a stolen backhoe in the LaSalle Channel of the Detroit River. On Tuesday June 3, at 9 a.m., the marine unit was on patrol in the LaSalle Channel when they saw a 50-foot barge with a backhoe on board. As a vessel inspection was conducted, it was discovered that the backhoe was reported stolen from the Greater Toronto Area, it has an estimated value of $200,000. As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old LaSalle man has been arrested and charged with: · Possession Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Windsor on July 15. OPP is asking anyone who may have any information regarding this incident to contact them at 1- 888 - 310 - 1122. Members of the WPS Traffic Enforcement Unit conducted a joint enforcement operation in conjunction with the OPP at several locations along the expressway on Wednesday. A total of 84 tickets were issued for speeding, equipment violations, and other violations.

Essex County OPP are hiring a Youth in Policing Initiative student for a summer job. Applicants must live in Essex County OPP's service area. Young people aged 15-18 with clean criminal records that are returning to school in the fall are welcome to apply, all you have to do is pen an essay that dictates why you would be the best candidate, and submit your resume. The Youth in Policing Initiative is funded through the province of Ontario, and delivers police forces the opportunity to promote youth participation as well as promoting careers in policing. Windsor paddleboarder charged on Detroit River

The Essex County OPP Marine Unit has charged paddleboarder on the Detroit River over the Victoria Day long weekend. On Saturday at 3 p.m., the marine unit was on patrol along the Detroit River in Lasalle and officers say they saw an individual on a paddle board without a Personal Flotation Device (PFD). The 28-year-old man from Windsor was charged under the Canada Shipping Act (CSA with: Operating human-powered pleasure craft without personal flotation device or lifejacket of appropriate size for each person on board. Police say a life jacket or (PFD) is required on a stand-up paddleboard in Canada. While leashes are recommended for safety, they cannot be used as a replacement for a lifejacket or PFD. 'Like any activity in any environment, make sure you 'know before you go' and that you match your adventure with your ability level and the conditions that day. Make sure that you have the right equipment to have fun safely,' say OPP in a news release. Essex County OPP officers continue their enforcement this Victoria Day long weekend as they participate in the province-wide campaign for Canada Road Safety Week and Safe Boating Week. You will continue to see extra patrols around the clock to keep the motoring public and waterways safe. The OPP Victoria Day Long Weekend Campaign runs until May 19.
