Rennes see bid for Angers' Esteban Lepaul rejected

SCO Angers' Esteban Lepaul (25) is the subject of a rejected bid from Stade Rennais, according to a report from . Lepaul carved out a spot in the line-up at Angers over the course of last season, finishing the season as the club's top goal-scorer in Ligue 1. The Frenchman has begun this campaign well, too, netting the only goal in a 1-0 win over Paris FC on the opening day of the Ligue 1 season. His performances have caught the eye of Rennes, according to Foot Mercato. The Breton club have even submitted a bid worth €10m, the publication understands. However, this falls considerably short of Angers' valuation of their forward. They value Lepaul at €25m, L'Équipe understands. This has put Rennes off pursuing a deal as they look to replace Nottingham Forest-bound Arnaud Kalimuendo. L'Équipe have also cited Sporting CP's Conrad Harder as a potential target this summer. Lepaul sprinted ahead of defender Timothee Kolodziejczak to reach Jordan Lefort's long ball just outside the box and scored with a calm right-foot finish after nine minutes. Angers midfielder Louis Mouton was sent off for a late challenge on Kolodziejczak in the 57th and Paris FC, who dominated possession and had more than twice as many shots as their opponents, pressed hard for an equaliser. The hosts survived when Alimami Gory failed to meet Ilan Kebbal's cross in front of goal, while a free kick from just outside the box was sent wide by forward Mathieu Cafaro in the 90th minute, ending the visitors' hopes of salvaging a draw. Fellow promoted side Metz also lost 1-0 away at Strasbourg as Joaquin Panichelli scored late, Auxerre secured a 1-0 home win over Lorient thanks to Lassine Sinayoko's strike and Lille lost a two-goal lead in a 3-3 draw at Brest earlier on Sunday. Lille's Olivier Giroud netted 11 minutes into his first Ligue 1 game since 2012 and Hakon Arnar Haraldsson made it 2-0 but Kamori Doumbia then scored twice to level. Ngal'ayel Mukau got Lille's third but Julien Le Cardinal equalised. REUTERS
