Shreveport mourns loss of victims in tragic house fire
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The City of Shreveport mourns with family and community after a tragic fire in the MLK neighborhood.
SFD respond to house fire in the MLK community, fatalities reported
On Sunday, April 6, the Shreveport Fire Department received a 911 call reporting a house fire in the 2400 block of Kemp Lane.
During the search of the residents, SFD located the bodies of four victims, currently believed to be occupants. After attempting immediate life-saving measures on the scene, SFD transported all four to a local hospital.
56-year-old Eureka Garner was pronounced dead at Ochsner LSU Health hospital. 84-year-old Mildred Carter was pronounced dead at Willis-Knighton Medical Center, and five-year-old Ne-Vaeh Garner was also pronounced dead at Ochsner. The fourth victim is in critical condition.
Council Chairwoman and District A Councilmember Tabatha Taylor and Mayor Arceneauxvisited the scene and the surviving family members.
'There are no words that can fully express the sorrow we feel as a city,' said Mayor Arceneaux.'This family, this neighborhood, and our entire community are heartbroken. I ask all Shreveporters to join me in lifting them up in prayer and support.'
Mayor Arceneaux also expressed his appreciation for the swift and courageous response of theShreveport Fire Department. 'We are grateful for our firefighters who responded within minutesand worked valiantly to save lives,' he said.
