Royal Navy tracks Russian vessels in UK waters for second time in May
Royal Navy warships and helicopters have tracked Russian vessel activity in British maritime waters for the second time this month. Source: Royal Navy statement, as reported by European Pravda Details: The British destroyer HMS Dragon monitored the Russian intelligence vessel Yury Ivanov, which was sailing near the Outer Hebrides off the coast of Scotland following NATO exercises in the area. A Merlin helicopter was launched from the destroyer to gather aerial intelligence on the Russian vessel. The operation continued until the Yury Ivanov turned north, heading back to its base in the Arctic. Meanwhile, Royal Navy ships HMS Ledbury and HMS Hurworth, along with the 814 Naval Air Squadron, were tasked with tracking the Russian corvette Stoikiy as it passed westwards through the English Channel, escorting two Russian merchant ships. "The Steregushchiy-class corvette subsequently escorted the two cargo ships eastbound, with Portsmouth-based HMS Hurworth watching every move as the Russian group headed back to the Baltic Sea as part of combined NATO efforts," the Royal Navy stated. The navy also recalled that only three weeks ago, the patrol vessel HMS Tyne was deployed to observe the Russian submarine Krasnodar. Background: In March, the Royal Navy tracked a Russian warship and a merchant vessel as they transited the English Channel and the North Sea. Since 2022, the United Kingdom has banned Russian ships from entering its ports. Support Ukrainska Pravda on Patreon!

Russia accuses Serbia of violating neutrality by supplying ammunition to Ukraine
Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service has complained that Serbian defence companies continue supplying ammunition to Ukraine despite Serbia's official stance of neutrality. Source: European Pravda, citing Russian propaganda media outlet RIA Novosti Details: Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service claimed that Serbian companies sell ammunition through a scheme involving fake end-user certificates and intermediary countries. These intermediaries are most often NATO member states, primarily Czechia, Poland and Bulgaria. Several African countries are also involved. The contribution of Serbian plants reportedly amounts to hundreds of thousands of shells for multiple-launch rocket systems and howitzers, as well as a million rounds of small arms ammunition. Russian intelligence alleged that Serbia's largest defence companies are part of the scheme, including Yugoimport SDPR, Zenitprom, Krusik, Sofag, Reyer DTI, Sloboda, Prvi Partizan and others. Background: Last summer, the Financial Times reported that since 2022, Ukraine has received Serbian ammunition worth €800 million. At the same time, Serbian authorities claimed that Serbia is not a party to the war in Ukraine, although it does sell ammunition to Western countries that may then transfer it to Kyiv. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that he does not object to Serbia selling ammunition to intermediaries who forward it to Ukraine. Support Ukrainska Pravda on Patreon!

Czech teacher receives suspended sentence for denying Russian war crimes in Ukraine
A Prague court has handed a suspended sentence to teacher Martina Bednářová for denying Russian war crimes in Ukraine. Source: Czech news agency ČTK, as reported by European Pravda Details: Bednářová brought up the topic of Ukraine during a lesson for eighth-grade pupils in early April 2022. She told the pupils that Russia's actions were a justified way to resolve the situation and claimed that "nothing was happening" in Kyiv. When the pupils pointed out they had seen footage of Kyiv being attacked on Czech television news, Bednářová replied that public television was biased. She also said that, in her opinion, Ukrainian "Nazi groups in Donbas" had been "systematically destroying Russians" since 2014. The District Court for Prague 6 heard her case for the third time. She had previously been acquitted twice, with the second verdict upheld by an appellate court. However, in January, the Czech Supreme Court overturned the rulings and ordered a retrial. The prosecutor's office requested a suspended sentence and a five-year ban on working in education or any role involving children for the now dismissed Bednářová. Bednářová's supporters cited freedom of speech and stressed the need for "tolerance of differing opinions", noting that some of the views she expressed have also been voiced by politicians such as Donald Trump. In the end, Bednářová was found guilty of violating education law, internal school regulations and the labour code. She was sentenced to seven months of a suspended sentence with a probation period of 20 months. Bednářová was also banned from teaching for three years and must complete a media literacy training course. The verdict is not final. Bednářová, who is running for the Chamber of Deputies in the upcoming elections on the Prague list of the Czech communist movement Stačilo!, called the court ruling political. She also claimed that "Russians were tortured" in Ukraine, the mass killing in the town of Bucha, Kyiv Oblast, had not yet been investigated, and that the media is misinforming the public about the war.
