European shares flat as gains from US-China truce pause
European shares opened flat on Wednesday as investors took a breather after gains seen earlier this week following the U.S.-China trade truce, while key inflation data from Germany was also in focus. The continent-wide STOXX 600 index was unchanged at 545.31 points as of 07:10 a.m. GMT. The benchmark had logged its fourth consecutive session of gains in the previous session on Tuesday. The week began on a firm note after Beijing and Washington agreed to a 90-day pause on most of the tariffs imposed on each other in April, sparking optimism that a global recession from the trade war may be averted. Meanwhile, data showed German inflation eased further to 2.2% in April, confirming preliminary figures, while Spain's European Union-harmonised 12-month inflation rate fell to 2.2% in March from the period through February. Among individual stocks, luxury firm Burberry topped expectations as brand sentiment was improving. Its shares were up 7.9%. Live Events German chemicals distributor Brenntag fell 3% after it reported a lower-than-expected quarterly core profit. Vestas rose 1.2% after Berenberg raised the wind turbine maker to "buy" from "hold".

Spain's industrial prices fell in March amid cheaper energy, vegoil
April 24 (Reuters) - Spanish industrial prices fell in March on a monthly basis thanks to cheaper energy as well as lower vegetable oil prices, the National Statistics Institute (INE) said on Thursday. Prices at the Spanish factory gates, or the prices as they leave the factory before additional costs are added such as transportation, fell 3.9% in March from February, INE said. That brought down the 12-month rate to 4.9%, down from a revised 6.7% in February, INE said. The statistics agency attributed most of the decrease to electricity costs, which dropped 19.2% in March, while oil refining and gas production costs fell 6.5% and 3.8%, respectively. Costs of vegetable oils, mainly pressed from olives, fell 3.7%. Industrial price changes tend to anticipate consumer prices as companies transfer some higher costs to customers, ultimately fuelling inflation. Spain's European Union-harmonised 12-month inflation rate came at 2.2% in March from 2.9% in the period through February.
