Sinkhole opens up in Leduc apartment building parking lot

A sinkhole that opened up in the parking lot of the MacEwan Greens apartment building in Leduc on July 31, 2025, is seen the next day. (Evan Klippenstein / CTV News Edmonton) A sinkhole in Leduc nearly swallowed up two vehicles on Thursday. The sinkhole opened up in the parking lot of the MacEwan Greens apartment building in the Deer Valley neighbourhood. A photo submitted by a viewer showed two vehicles half-fallen into the hole, which had been removed by early Friday morning. The hole was also taped off. CTV News Edmonton has reached out to officials for more information.

Crash closes Anthony Henday Drive near Sherwood Park

A semi and Edmonton Police Service cruiser are parked in the southbound lanes of Anthony Henday Drive near Whitemud Drive in east Edmonton after a crash on July 24, 2025. (Evan Klippenstein / CTV News Edmonton) A portion of Anthony Henday Drive near Whitemud Drive in east Edmonton was closed early Thursday morning because of a crash. The crash, which appeared to have involved a semi pulling a double trailer, happened sometime around 3 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the ring road. When CTV News Edmonton arrived at the scene at 5 a.m., the semi was still parked on the side of the road. Edmonton Police Service asked motorists to avoid the area until further notice. Northwest business fire under investigation

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services says the fire near 115 Kinglet Boulevard was reported just before 3 a.m. The blaze was under control before 5 a.m. There were no reported injuries. The affected business appeared to be Valley Nails and Spa, whose front windows were broken and front door was boarded up when CTV News Edmonton arrived at the scene. Environment and Climate Change Canada's air quality health index was at six as of 12 p.m. People who are at risk, such as children, pregnant people, or elderly are advised to consider reducing or rescheduling strenuous activities outdoors. By Monday night, the health index is expected to lower to two, which is low risk.
