EPD make another arrest in long-term fentanyl trafficking investigation
HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – Another person was arrested and is facing charges in connection to a long-term fentanyl trafficking investigation in Evansville. 31-year-old Dareion Ashford was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail at just after midnight on Friday on charges of Manufacture/Dealing Methamphetamine and Dealing Cocaine or Narcotic Drug. According to an affidavit, from 2018 to 2025, the Evansville-Vanderburgh County Drug Task Force received multiple tips from sources stating several individuals within Evansville were distributing large amounts of heroin and fentanyl. The information also included that the dealers all had family ties. Surveillance was conducted and intel gathered showed one of the people that was involved was Ashford. Over 10 pounds of Methamphetamine seized during traffic stop in Posey County On November 27, 2023, Indiana State Police made a traffic stop on a white Dodge Charger for allegedly speeding. This led to the recovery of over ten pounds of meth. Two of the people named was Demetria Gray and Shawnunique Phillips. Through an investigation, EPD says they learned Gray was tasked with driving to an address on Mora Lane to meet with another person, by Ashford. EPD says a detective learned Gray would pick up controlled substances and was told to take it to the 100 block of N. Bell Avenue. EPD says the detective already conducted surveillance on the address and knew at least three people were at the address frequently. The investigation found that Gray made the same trip several times before getting stopped. EPD also says Gray's phone had communication with Ashford. The affidavit goes on to say the detective found that the Mora Lane address listed was based in St. Louis, and Gray would meet with an individual there to pick up the ten pounds of meth to take back to Evansville for Ashford.
