Evart firefighters rescue person from woods using phone app. Here's how

Evart Area firefighters say they were able to locate a lost person "deep" in a state forest on Monday, June 22, in part, thanks to an app that allows residents to connect with emergency response personnel. The Evart Area Fire Department said in a Facebook post that the individual had run out of water, was disoriented and unable to find their way out of a the forest. "Quick thinking by Meceola Central Dispatch," which serves Mecosta and Osceola counties, allowed first responders to text with the person and obtain a location using What3Words technology, an app designed to identify and share exact locations based on three unrelated words. The release said the fire department deployed two brush units, two ATVs, and a rescue unit into the area and, with the coordinates provided through the app, quickly located, and removed the individual from the forest. "This successful outcome was made possible through the power of technology, the coordination of Meceola Central Dispatch, and the dedication of our fire/rescue teams," the post said. What3Words is a geocoding application that uses sets of three words instead of alphanumeric coordinates to identify locations, according to the National Library of Medicine. The application has grown in popularity over the past few years and is used by emergency services worldwide. The app provides every 10-square-foot (3 square meters) area around the world a unique combination of three words. You can download it to your phone on Apple or Android devices. The app is free to download and use. To share a what3words address over the phone or in a text message, you need phone signal or a data connection. You also need a data connection to load maps, or share an address in other apps or on social media. No. What3words addresses can be used even by those without the app. Send a person the address as a link so they can view it on an online map. When is National Siblings Day? Who started it? Everything to know about the quasi-holiday

Stop bickering with your brother or sister and show them some love instead, because it's National Siblings Day. The pseudo-holiday is celebrated in the United States each year on April 10. According to the Arizona Republic, Claudia Evart created the holiday in 1995 to honor both of her siblings who died and help others recognize the bond within their own families. Here's what you should know about the day of brotherly and sisterly love. National Siblings Day is Thursday, April 10. National Siblings Day is just what it sounds like: a day to celebrate your brothers or sisters. Similar holidays celebrate other family members throughout the year, such as Mother's Day, Father's Day, National Daughters Day and Grandparents' Day. The quasi-holiday, also known as World Siblings Day, is celebrated in countries around the world, including India, Portugal, Spain, Australia and more. However, National Siblings Day was founded in the U.S. in 1995 by Claudia Evart, who created the day after losing her brother and sister at a very early age, per National Today. Evart chose April 10 because it was her sister Lisette's birthday. She also created the 'Siblings Day Foundation,' which is working to make the holiday federally recognized in the U.S. Since 1998, 49 states have issued proclamations to observe National Siblings Day on April 10. Former presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush and Barack Obama have also recognized the holiday. You can celebrate National Siblings Day by hugging your sibling, taking them out for ice cream, or watching your favorite movie together. Just find a way to do something together and cherish the relationship you have, as was Evart's goal. Are you and your sibling long-distance? Then post an Instagram story of your brother or sister instead. Thursday is National Siblings Day. National Daughters Day is Thursday, Sept. 25. National Sons Day is observed annually on March 4 and Sept. 28. Mother's Day lands on Sunday, May 11, this year. Father's Day will be observed Sunday, June 15.
