Darby Allin scales Mount Everest, becomes first pro wrestler to reach the summit

Image via AEW AEW's Darby Allin has officially reached the summit of Mount Everest, becoming the first professional wrestler to achieve the feat. The 32-year-old scaled the world's highest peak at 8:50 AM local time on May 18, 2025, alongside a team of experienced Sherpas. The expedition was part of the Everest Pvt 25 Experience, and Allin's team included renowned climbers Ang Dorjee Sherpa (24th summit), Pasang Bhote (14th summit), Tashi Thundu Sherpa (12th summit), and Pemba Sherpa (2nd summit). According to the official update, the team is now descending to Camp 4 after briefly soaking in the surreal moment at the summit. The climb had been in the works for over a year. Allin had originally planned to attempt Everest in 2024 but postponed the expedition after suffering a broken foot during an AEW match. He began his climb in early April with New Zealand-based Adventure Consultants and has been off AEW programming since December 2024. Record-breaking feat at 20,958 feet In addition to reaching the summit, Allin set a world record for the highest kickflip ever performed - at an elevation of 20,958 feet. The stunt underscores the daredevil persona that Allin has cultivated both inside and outside the wrestling ring. AEW officially acknowledged Allin's achievement with a congratulatory post on social media, stating, 'Congratulations to @DarbyAllin for reaching the summit of Mount Everest!' Fellow AEW wrestler Swerve Strickland also reacted to the news, writing 'TOP OF THE WORLD!!!' in a message of support. While fans and colleagues have celebrated the monumental feat, Allin's wrestling future remains uncertain. He was last seen on AEW television during a Continental Classic Match against Ricochet in December 2024, which ended in a draw. He was written off TV following a storyline attack by The Death Riders. Reports had suggested that Allin might return in time for the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament or AEW's Double or Nothing pay-per-view on May 25. However, with his Everest expedition still underway, it's unlikely he will appear at either. There's no official timeline for Allin's return, but when he does step back into the ring, fans can expect him to resume his rivalry with Jon Moxley and The Death Riders - a storyline that AEW has deliberately left open-ended. For now, Darby Allin is living up to his moniker in a way no one expected, by reaching literal new heights.
