Your guide to July 4 fireworks in the Seattle area

Fireworks shows are set to light up skies across the Puget Sound region — from Lake Union to the Eastside and beyond — this Fourth of July. Why it matters: Watching a professional fireworks display lets you mark Independence Day without breaking local laws — and without risking a trip to the ER. Here are a few prime places to mark America's 249th birthday this year with a boom. Seafair 4th of July Fireworks will ignite over Lake Union about 10:15pm, with food trucks, music, beer gardens and kids' activities preceding the show at both Gas Works and Lake Union parks. Admission is free, though you can pay for reserved seating with a better view. Bellevue Family 4th The big fireworks show begins at 10:05pm at Bellevue's Downtown Park. Food vendors, live music and family activities start at 5pm. Come early to Log Boom Park for music, food trucks, face painting, games and crafts starting at 7:30pm. The fireworks blast off at 10. Food trucks, music and inflatable bouncy houses are among the draws at this family-friendly event, which gets underway at 7pm. The fireworks will light at 9:45. Everett's "Thunder on the Bay" You can view the fireworks over the Snohomish River and Port Gardner Bay from a number of local parks, the city suggests. The show begins at 10pm. A free festival will be held at Legion Memorial Park starting at 3pm. There's no parking on the holiday, but the city offers a shuttle from Everett Community College. Tacoma Summer Blast Fireworks will shoot off around 10pm and be visible from along the Ruston Way waterfront. Starting around noon, Dune Peninsula Park and Cummings Park will have beer gardens, food vendors and music. Cummings Park will offer a kids' zone with a bounce house, games and crafts. Federal Way's "Red, White, & Blues Festival" The music and fun starts at 4pm at Celebration Park, followed by a fireworks show at 10:15. Kent Fourth of July Splash The fireworks will light at 10pm at Lake Meridian Park. The party starts at 5, featuring music and food vendors. Take the free shuttle because only ADA parking will be allowed on site. Sammamish's "Fourth on the Plateau" The celebration at Commons Park will feature kids activities and food trucks starting at 5pm, culminating in a fireworks display at 10. Carnation Music and beer gardens kick off the party at Remlinger Farms at 4pm, followed by a fireworks show at 9:45 (although it's possible the fire marshal will cancel the fireworks display if wildfire risk is too high.) 3rd of July in Mountlake Terrace Get patriotic a day early at Mountlake Terrace's Ballinger Park, with a pie-eating contest, field games, a DJ and food trucks starting at 6pm July 3.
