Halifax to axe key bank account perk for thousands of customers within days

Has your bank made any changes? We'd love to hear from you please email: money@ TAKE NOTE Halifax to axe key bank account perk for thousands of customers within days HALIFAX will axe a key bank account perk for thousands of customers within days, The Sun can reveal. The high street lender, part of Lloyds Banking Group, is getting rid of "Extras" for Rewards current account holders to make way for new changes. 1 The bank is getting rid of a rewards feature for customers Credit: Getty Currently, Halifax charges a £3 monthly fee to run this bank account and customers are given freebies in return for hitting certain targets. For example, customers can get £5 paid into their bank account or a free cinema ticket if they either spend £500 on their debit card each month or hold a balance of over £5,000. But the bank has plans to close down this service come September, meaning customers who meet these targets will no longer get a reward. To prepare for this, Halifax has told customers that from June 17 they will no longer be able to add Reward Extras to their account or renew an existing Reward Extras offer. It comes as part of a refresh of the banking offer, which will see new features added. This includes fee-free debit card spending abroad and a £100 interest free arranged overdraft to existing and new eligible Reward account customers. Rewards customers are currently charged a 2.99% fee for using their debit card abroad. That means customers are currently charged an extra £2.99 for using their debit card to pay £100 abroad. Halifax said it is waving the fee for Rewards users come August 1. Customers who meet the requirements will also be allowed to enter into a £100 overdraft and not face any interest. Fresh wave of bank branches set to close for good in June A Halifax spokesperson: 'We're updating the features on our Reward account, introducing fee-free debit card spending abroad, with more benefits to come later in the year.' All Reward customers should be aware of the changes from July, giving everyone at least two months' notice. If the service no longer feels right for holders, they can close the account and choose to bank elsewhere. It comes as Lloyds recently hiked the cost of its Club Lloyds account from £3 to £5. The packaged account provides extra benefits including a Disney plus subscription, cashback rewards, and access to linked savings accounts with preferential interest rates. OTHER BANK CHANGES This comes as the Co-operative Bank announced it would be increasing the monthly charge on its Everyday Extra package bank account in July. Currently, customers pay a monthly fee of £15, totalling £180 a year. But starting from July 1, this fee will increase to £18 a month—an extra £36 annually. Elsewhere, Skipton Building Society said that from June 9 a total of 92 types of savings accounts will have its interest lowered. The moves comes after rate-setters on the BoE's Monetary Policy Committee cut the base rate from 4.5% to 4.25%. Leeds Building Society said it will lower the interest on 58 of its saving accounts. That includes its Five Access Saver which will have its interest rates lowered from 3.77% AER to 3.55% come June 27.

Woolworths has announced a big move that will be music to the ears of electric vehicle (EV) drivers with an Everyday Rewards membership. You'll now be able to score rewards points if you charge your EV through the Chargefox network. There are thousands of these chargers dotted around the country, but more than 100 of them are located at 25 Woolworths supermarkets. If you decide to fill up here, you will be be able to double the opportunity to collect points at the checkout and at your car. "We are thrilled to be working with Woolworths to offer Everyday Rewards points,' Ed Asuncion, Chargefox's executive general manager, said. You'll be able to take advantage of this upgrade in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Western Australia. Chargefox and Woolworths hope to add more charging stations in the future. The charging network was first formed in 2017 and currently has more than 2,220 public chargers available across the country, with 5,000 people charging their EVs every you have to do is add your Everyday Rewards details to a Chargefox profile. For every $1 spent on charging at a Woolworths Chargefox station, you'll get one Everyday Rewards point. A spokesperson for the loyalty program said the offer comes as thousands of Aussies jump on the EV bandwagon. 'We're always looking for new ways to offer our members more value across all their everyday needs," they said. 'With around 300,000 EVs on the roads in Australia, this partnership offers members the perfect opportunity to collect points as they charge their car whilst doing their weekly shop.' The electrifying update for Everyday Rewards subscribers comes after the loyalty program copped a double whammy of bad news recently. Woolworths quietly revealed last month it would be rolling back benefits for customers signed up to its subscription services Delivery Unlimited and Everyday Extra services. Delivery Unlimited won't offer double Everyday Rewards points for subscribers from June 1. The $15 a month or $119 a year subscription gave shoppers access to free delivery on same day or next day orders of $75 or more. A Woolworths spokesperson told Yahoo Finance its service continued to be 'very popular' with customers and asserted it 'provides great value and convenience to customers'. The supermarket also revealed it would no longer offer a monthly 10 per cent off BIG W discount for Everyday Extra subscribers from June 1 as well. An Everyday Rewards spokesperson told Yahoo Finance the change was being made so it could 'continue to keep prices low for every shop at BIG W'. Subscribers will instead get monthly deals at Big W, starting from next month.

Coles offers new $150 discount on rewards scheme after Woolworths slashes benefits: 'Free delivery'

Coles shoppers can get up to $150 off their grocery shops, free delivery and bonus Flybuys points thanks to a "first" by the supermarket giant. Woolworths has been reeling back its benefits for customers signed up to its subscription services, causing some customers to abandon the services, and it seems like rival Coles has taken notice. Coles is offering three months of free membership for its Coles Plus and Coles Plus Saver subscription schemes. The offer is available to new subscribers and is running now until May 20, with customers able to sign up for both schemes for free. A Coles spokesperson told Yahoo Finance that its delivery subscription Coles Plus also provided customers with a standard one-month free trial, meaning customers signing up this week could get four months free. Coles' move comes after rival Woolworths announced it would be removing popular benefits of its Delivery Unlimited and Everyday Extra services. The $15 a month or $119 a year subscription gives shoppers access to free delivery on same day or next day orders of $75 or more. Everyday Extra, which is the equivalent to Coles Plus Saver, will no longer offer its popular monthly 10 per cent off BIG W discount from June 1. It will continue to offer 10 per cent off one Woolies shop a month and double rewards points on Woolies and BIG W shops. The moves didn't go down well with subscribers, with some threatening to cancel their subscriptions or not renew. 'This is very quickly becoming not worth the money,' one said. 'I will be cancelling mine as of now. Not worth it to me anymore,' another added. Major UK bank used by millions to hike its account fees within weeks

A major UK bank used by millions of customers across the UK is set to hike fees on a popular account within weeks. The Co-operative Bank is increasing the monthly charge on its Everyday Extra bank account in July. The current account, which provides additional perks compared to Co-op's standard bank accounts, will see its monthly subscription fee increase from £15 to £18 per month on July 1. This means the total annual fee paid for the service will jump from £180 to £216 – an increase of £36. Everyday Extra works like a regular current account, allowing direct debits, standing orders, and usual banking operations. However, customers pay the monthly fee for additional perks. These benefits include mobile phone insurance, worldwide travel insurance, and an overdraft. Many other banks offer packaged bank accounts for a monthly fee – such as Monzo Max, which offers phone and travel insurance, higher interest on savings accounts, and perks such as cinema tickets for £17 per month. The price increase comes after the Co-op launched a switch offer of £175 to entice new customers to change over. The offer launched in May, with the bank handing out £100 to those who completed a switch to its current account and £25 per month for three months after. In order to receive the cash incentive, customers must switch their current account to a Co-op Standard Current Account, Current Account Plus, Everyday Extra, or Privilege Premier Account. A spokesperson from The Co-operative Bank said: 'Our current Everyday Extra customers have recently been notified that from July 1, we will be increasing their current account fee from £15 to £18. 'The subscription fee for our Everyday Extra product has remained constant since it launched in 2017, but, unfortunately, due to the costs levied by our suppliers increasing during this time, we've had to increase the fees that our customers will pay. 'By applying for an Everyday Extra account as part of our current £175 switch incentive, customers could effectively get 9 months of additional benefits for free.' Co-op will be raising its subscription fee for its Everyday Extra account to £18 on July 1. The package account includes: Mobile phone insurance, worldwide travel insurance, and UK & European breakdown cover An overdraft available once the account is opened To apply you must: Be registered with a UK Medical Practioner for travel insurance benefits Be between 18 and 79 years old Meet the UK residency eligibility criteria for insurance benefits Co-op is not the only bank increasing fees for packaged accounts this year. Lloyds Bank is increasing the monthly fee on its Club Lloyds package bank account in June. More Trending Currently, customers pay £3 a month for a Club Lloyds account, but this will rise to £5 per month from June 2. The current account comes with additional perks. For example, customers can choose between a Disney+ subscription, six cinema tickets, a magazine subscription, or 25% off select food and drink brands. You can also get access to Club Lloyds Monthly Saver – a savings account that pays 6.25% gross/AER on up to £400 a month, and up to 15% cashback at certain retailers. View More » The monthly fee is still waived if you pay £2,000 or more into the account each month, but for those who don't meet the requirement, this change could potentially add up to £24 more per year.
