Person rescued after taking unwell at popular Ayrshire hill race
A member of the public took unwell during the annual Goatfell Hill Race on Saturday and was rescued by the Arran Mountain Rescue Team.
An Ayrshire mountain rescue team sprung into action at the weekend after a person "took unwell" at a popular hill race.
Volunteers from the Arran Mountain Rescue Team were marshalling the annual Goatfell Hill Race on Saturday, May 17, when the incident occurred.
The race itself was progressing nicely before the team were called to check over the casualty.
Rescuers then transferred the casualty to their all-terrain vehicle and evacuated them from the hillside before they were taken by ambulance to hospital.
More than 100 runners took part in the race - including members of the Arran Mountain Rescue Team - which was run in some of the hottest conditions of the year.
Kirstie Smith and team leader Ewan McKinnon were quick despite the conditions and both took home first prize in the category for Arran residents.
A spokesperson for Arran Mountain Rescue Team said: "Whilst marshalling the Goatfell Hill Race in Saturday's sunny weather, the team were also called to assist a member of the public who took unwell.
"They were checked over and evacuated from the hill by Argocat to a waiting ambulance and transported to hospital. We wish the casualty a speedy recovery.
"It was a hot day for the runners and congratulations are due to all 101 runners who took part, including Arran Mountain Rescue Team member Kirstie Smith and team leader Ewan McKinnon who won first local female and first local male respectively."
