Ex-Motherwell star Kevin Van Veen brands former girlfriend ‘a f***ing liar' as she tells court of ‘domestic abuse'

He is accused of grabbing her, pushing her off a bed when pregnant and locking her inside his home 'ABUSE' CLAIMS Ex-Motherwell star Kevin Van Veen brands former girlfriend 'a f***ing liar' as she tells court of 'domestic abuse' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) EX-MOTHERWELL star Kevin Van Veen blurted out 'you're a f***ing liar' from the dock as his former girlfriend told a court of alleged domestic abuse at his hands. The 33-year-old forced the sheriff to temporarily halt his case as he continually said 'you're a liar' and 'I'm not having this, I'm not doing this' at Hamilton sheriff court today. Prosecutors claim he repeatedly shouted, swore, threatened violence and made offensive remarks towards the woman between 2021 and 2024. He is also accused of grabbing her, pushing her off a bed when pregnant, locking her inside his home and turning up at her relatives' properties. Giving evidence via video link from elsewhere in the court building, the 33-year-old complainer, who can't be named for legal reasons, said she got together with Van Veen in 2021 and at the beginning he was 'a gentleman, charming and respectful.' But she told fiscal Scott O'Conner that Van Veen would monitor her Instagram and she blamed a 'lack of trust or insecurity' on his behalf that would 'start fights.' As she told the court about times where he would 'hold me by the wrists and pin me to the wall to prevent me leaving', Van Veen began calling her a liar from the dock. Sheriff Shirley McKenna warned him: "It's important you listen and do not interrupt. Do you understand?" The court took a ten minute break before the witness continued recalling the alleged abuse. She told the trial she would be accused of ruining his performances for Motherwell if he had not played well. She said: 'He would pin me to the wall, have me by the arm and I would say I just wanted to leave and he would say 'not until I calm down.' 'This would go on all night, sometimes for hours. 'We would go to bed and he would start again like there was a pattern. 'It would be the night before he had a football game and I would remember thinking he was nervous but it seemed to be a pattern then he would say that I kept him up all night and that is why he didn't perform.' She said she had her wrist twisted by van Veen during one incident at his then home in Uddingston, Lanarkshire. The complainer also said she feared van Veen had gone to assault her but stopped because 'it was not worth' his football career. The woman further alleged a holiday in Mexico was 'two weeks of mental torture' because of him 'shouting and screaming' in her face as well as being accused of being a 'slag and a slut' over a dress he deemed too tight. She also claimed Van Veen would 'clench his teeth and fist' towards her in anger which left her 'threatened, scared and petrified'. The goal man had been on loan at St Mirren from Dutch side Groningen but his contract with the Paisley side was ripped up following his initial court appearance last October. Van Veen, of Glasgow, denies a single charge under domestic abuse laws. The trial continues next month.

The former Motherwell boss succeeds Derek McInnes who quit Rugby Park to take over at Hearts. He stunned Well chiefs by quitting the role at the end of January. At the time of his exit, Kettlewell cited personal abuse from his own club's fans as part of the reason for stepping away from the role. Now, he's back in management after taking the reins at Rugby Park. It's Kettlewell's third top flight gig in Scottish football having previously been Ross County boss between 2018 and 2020, initially as co-manager alongside Steve Ferguson. He succeeds Derek McInnes in the role at Killie. McInnes, 53, left the club before the final game of the season and was confirmed Hearts manager last Monday. He had been at the Rugby Park helm since 2022 and led the club back from the Championship into the top tier and subsequently into Europe. Steven Naismith, a former Hearts boss and Kilmarnock striker himself, had been in contention for the Killie position. But it's Kettlewell who has landed the gig. More to follow... Scott Brown is next Dundee boss favourite as Celtic icon leads Maloney and Lennon in hot seat race

Tony Docherty was shown the door at Dens Park despite leading the club to Premiership survival Scott Brown has been installed as the bookmakers' favourite for the Dundee job after Tony Docherty was sacked. The Ayr United boss immediately shot to the top of the betting after the news that the Dens Park club were on the hunt for a new manager. ‌ Brown, who has previously been at Fleetwood, took Ayr United into the Championship play-offs before they fell short. ‌ The former Celtic and Aberdeen captain is also close to Dundee's technical director Gordon Strachan from their time together at Parkhead and with the Scotland national team. Former Hibs boss Shaun Maloney is another who has been linked with the job. He is out of work after leaving Wigan and has previously turned down the Dens Park job. Neil Lennon, who kept Dunfermline Athletic up, is also amongst the early bookmakers' favourites and he also has a relationship with Strachan. Ex-Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell and Aberdeen first-team coach Peter Leven could also come into the equation. Dundee claim they have no-one lined up and chief executive John Nelms will start the process of appointing Docherty's successor. ‌ A Dundee statement confirmed: "The club intends at this juncture to restructure the football department and the process to appoint a new management team begins immediately." Docherty was sacked less than 24 hours after he secured Dundee's Premiership status. ‌ The boss was summoned to a meeting on Monday morning where he, along with assistant Taylor, goalkeeping coach Alan Combe and head of performance Graeme Henderson, was informed his services were being dispensed with. Docherty paid the price for a poor second season which only saw them safeguard their top-flight standing with their final day win over already-relegated St Johnstone, which saw them finish just one place above the relegation play-off, which Ross County now face. A club statement read: 'Dundee Football Club can today confirm that manager Tony Docherty, Stuart Taylor, Alan Combe and Graeme Henderson have been relieved of their duties at the football club with immediate effect. ‌ 'Tony was appointed manager of Dundee FC in May 2023 after the club was promoted to the Scottish Premiership and in his first season in charge guided the club to a top six finish in the league. 'Sunday's result confirmed the club's place in the Scottish Premiership for next season. 'However, this season the results of the team have not met the standards expected by the club. 'With the club finishing the season in tenth position, one place above the relegation play-off position, the club have taken the decision to relieve Tony of his duties. 'The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tony, Stuart, Alan and Graeme for all of the work they have put into the club during their time at Dundee FC. 'We wish them all the best for the future.' Docherty lasted two seasons in the hot seat after he left the assistant manager's role at Kilmarnock to become his own man.

Former Rangers star reveals he doesn't plan to get Ibrox season ticket when he retires ‘for a very particular reason'

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FORMER Rangers star Jamie Murphy has been explaining why he WON'T be getting an Ibrox season ticket when he retires. Murphy, now 35, is a boyhood Gers fan who got to live his dreams as an Ibrox player as part of an excellent career after joining on a permanent deal following a loan spell from Brighton and Hove Albion. 2 Jamie Murphy in action for Ayr Utd Credit: Kenny Ramsay 2 Jamie Murph during his time at Rangers Credit: The Sun He joined the club at first under Graeme Murty initially on-loan before being officially unveiled as Steven Gerrard's first Rangers signing in the summer. And he's still playing his football at a good level with Championship promotion hopefuls Ayr Utd. But the Go Radio pundit was asked to gaze into the future and if he would get a season ticket back once he retires from the sport. And he said he wouldn't - but for a VERY specific reason. Murphy replied: "I wouldn't but I wouldn't for a very particular reason. "It's because my children have all started playing football now and I would hate to miss them playing. "They're all doing really well." Jamie and wife Nadine have three kids - Jay, Sophie and Hallie. Ex-Motherwell and Sheffield United winger Murphy has previously revealed how another Premiership club nearly scuppered his dream move. He was NEVER meant to join on loan initially with wanted to sign him on a permanent before there was a late change of plans. Andy Halliday and Rangers players celebrate Jamie Murphy's birthday on glam night out And he even feared the loan switch was going to collapse at the final stages after his agent called him to say a deal was off the table. That was because one of Rangers' league rivals had allegedly told Brighton that the Ibrox club couldn't afford the deal. Distraught Murphy was already in the process of selling his house in Brighton and was searching for new accommodation in Glasgow for his wife and kids. But to Murphy's delight, the two clubs thrashed out a deal in the end and the winger completed his dream move to Ibrox. Speaking to Open Goal, he said: "It was a bit of a fiasco. I fly up on the Thursday and have the first part of the medical. "The second part of the medical is the Friday so I do that and I've to go to Murray Park because they were flying out to Florida so it was trying to get it all done for then. "It was a transfer. It wasn't a loan, it was (meant to be) a transfer. "My agent then got a hold of them and they said the deal's off. Let's just say another SPL team had phoned them and told them that Rangers couldn't afford it, they'd no money. "I was actually sitting with a McDonald's because we'd been in there all day, wondering what's going on. There was no food! Mark Allen said not to worry, leave it with them and they'd sort it. "It gets to 11 o'clock at night and he's like nah, they've said it's off. So I phoned Paul Barber, the chief executive at Brighton, and told him I was NOT coming back down, there is no chance on this earth. "I'd moved the wife, the kids, we were in a house and selling the one down south. "Paul said, 'Unfortunately Jamie, sometimes this happens,' and I hung the phone up. My agent is on the phone with them all day and the next day. "Brighton said it could be a loan and Rangers have to pay this money. It's all agreed, are you alright with that? I was like aye, just get me in." Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
