Scott Brown is next Dundee boss favourite as Celtic icon leads Maloney and Lennon in hot seat race
Tony Docherty was shown the door at Dens Park despite leading the club to Premiership survival
Scott Brown has been installed as the bookmakers' favourite for the Dundee job after Tony Docherty was sacked.
The Ayr United boss immediately shot to the top of the betting after the news that the Dens Park club were on the hunt for a new manager.
Brown, who has previously been at Fleetwood, took Ayr United into the Championship play-offs before they fell short.
The former Celtic and Aberdeen captain is also close to Dundee's technical director Gordon Strachan from their time together at Parkhead and with the Scotland national team.
Former Hibs boss Shaun Maloney is another who has been linked with the job. He is out of work after leaving Wigan and has previously turned down the Dens Park job.
Neil Lennon, who kept Dunfermline Athletic up, is also amongst the early bookmakers' favourites and he also has a relationship with Strachan.
Ex-Motherwell manager Stuart Kettlewell and Aberdeen first-team coach Peter Leven could also come into the equation.
Dundee claim they have no-one lined up and chief executive John Nelms will start the process of appointing Docherty's successor.
A Dundee statement confirmed: "The club intends at this juncture to restructure the football department and the process to appoint a new management team begins immediately."
Docherty was sacked less than 24 hours after he secured Dundee's Premiership status.
The boss was summoned to a meeting on Monday morning where he, along with assistant Taylor, goalkeeping coach Alan Combe and head of performance Graeme Henderson, was informed his services were being dispensed with.
Docherty paid the price for a poor second season which only saw them safeguard their top-flight standing with their final day win over already-relegated St Johnstone, which saw them finish just one place above the relegation play-off, which Ross County now face.
A club statement read: 'Dundee Football Club can today confirm that manager Tony Docherty, Stuart Taylor, Alan Combe and Graeme Henderson have been relieved of their duties at the football club with immediate effect.
'Tony was appointed manager of Dundee FC in May 2023 after the club was promoted to the Scottish Premiership and in his first season in charge guided the club to a top six finish in the league.
'Sunday's result confirmed the club's place in the Scottish Premiership for next season. 'However, this season the results of the team have not met the standards expected by the club.
'With the club finishing the season in tenth position, one place above the relegation play-off position, the club have taken the decision to relieve Tony of his duties.
'The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tony, Stuart, Alan and Graeme for all of the work they have put into the club during their time at Dundee FC.
'We wish them all the best for the future.'
Docherty lasted two seasons in the hot seat after he left the assistant manager's role at Kilmarnock to become his own man.

Former Rangers star 'emerges as shock contender' for vacant Motherwell manager's job
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) FORMER Rangers and Dundee star Charlie Adam is being considered for the Motherwell job, according to a report. It was reported last week that midfielder Adam was leaving his role as Everton's set piece coach under David Moyes in an attempt to return to frontline management. Sign up for the Rangers newsletter Sign up 2 Charlie Adam with David Moyes Credit: Reuters 2 Fir Park, Motherwell Credit: Kenny Ramsay He was previously head coach at Fleetwood Town - and now the Daily Record say he could be set to return north of the border in the top job at Fir Park. We told you yesterday how Central Coast Mariners boss Mark Jackson had emerged as a shock candidate for the job. Leeds-born Jackson, a former defender who mainly played in England's lower leagues, has spent the past three years Down Under after previously bossing MK Dons. He has won an A-League Premiership and Championship as well as the Asian Champions League Two title. In the 2023-24 season Jackson and the Mariners won a Double, emulating ex-Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou who achieved the feat with Brisbane Road in 2010-11. Jackson took over from Nick Montgomery who had left to become manager of Hibs following the club's A-League Grand Final victory. The 47-year-old honed his coaching talents working at Leeds United, where he came through the ranks as a player. The Fir Park side were rocked when Michael Wimmer chose to step down from the club. He departed at the end of the season for family reasons to join SVV Jahn Regensburg. Robbie Neilson and Tony Docherty have also been linked with the position but the 'Well board have shown they're unafraid to look outwith the usual contenders for the role. Michael Wimmer set to QUIT Motherwell for new job after just TWELVE games as Scottish Premiership side left stunned Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

Bath out to spoil Leicester leaving party in Premiership final
With departing Tigers head coach Michael Cheika making way for Geoff Parling, it will be a summer of change at Mattioli Woods Welford Road. As well as Cole and Youngs – one-club men who top England's international appearances list – calling time on their illustrious playing careers, Tigers captain Julian Montoya and South Africa fly-half Handre Pollard are also moving on next season. England scrum-half Spencer, 32, feels the Leicester contingent have certainly earned their respect in the game, but that will count for little when Bath look to cap a memorable campaign with more silverware and a first Premiership title since 1996. 'They are two legends of the game and of English rugby – they both have over 100 caps for their country,' said Spencer, who won the last of his 10 England caps during the Autumn Nations Series against Australia in November. 'They (Leicester) are feeding off the energy of those guys leaving, but is not just those two – it is (Julian) Montoya, it is (Handre) Pollard and there are a few more. A post shared by Ben Spencer (@ben_spencer9) 'Obviously the game will be worse off without them, but I don't think there is any part of me or any of the Bath lads that don't want to spoil that party. 'It will be sad to see them go, but I am hoping that we lift the trophy at the end of the day on Saturday afternoon.' Bath finished 11 points clear of Leicester at the top of the regular-season table, winning 14 games, and then saw off rivals Bristol to book a return to the Gallagher Premiership final. Johann van Graan's side have already ended the club's 17-year trophy drought, lifting the Premiership Rugby Cup earlier in the campaign and then beating Lyon to win the European Challenge Cup final in Cardiff last month. Trophy hunt status: Ongoing Can @BathRugby complete the Treble this weekend? 🏆🏆#GallagherPremFinal — Premiership Rugby (@premrugby) June 10, 2025 Having been part of the team beaten 25-21 by Northampton in last season's Premiership showpiece final at Twickenham, Spencer feels the squad are well set to go one better on Saturday. 'Everyone feels different – this group has been through enough now and played in enough big games to know how the week needs to feel and look,' Spencer said. 'That's one huge thing that Johann brought in, turning hope into belief and this group believes now and believes we can win big games.' Spencer added: 'Leicester love to scrum and to maul and then have a big set of centres and electric wingers. 'They are going to be a handful on Saturday, but this week has been about us and what we can do.'
