PH sends training audience to Australia-US Exercise Talisman Sabre

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) for the first time sent a training audience to the Australia-United States' Exercise Talisman Sabre in Sydney for this year, the Philippine Army said on Monday. 'This is the first time the AFP sent a training audience in the history of Exercise Talisman Sabre,' the Philippine Army said in a statement. A total of 32 AFP personnel were deployed including seven from the Philippine Army, three from the Philippine Marine Corps, five from the Philippine Navy, and 17 from the Philippine Air Force. They arrived in Australia on July 5 for the exercise.. During his visit in Australia, Philippine Army chief Lieutenant General Roy Galido called for stronger regional security ties in the Indo-Pacific region "These collaborative efforts will play a crucial role in strengthening defense relations and improving cooperation among allied and partner land forces in the broader Indo-Pacific region," Galido said. He held bilateral dialogues with Australian Army chief Lieutenant General Simon Stuart and German Army chief Lieutenant General Alfons Mais in Sydney. Galido joined the meeting of the Army leaders from the Core-Four members (Australia, Japan and the US). Also, the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force Defense Cooperation Medal was conferred to Galido from JGSDF Chief of Staff General Morishita Yasunori in a separate meeting. Slated from July 13 to August 4, the Exercise Talisman is Australia's largest bilateral exercise with the United States that also involves training audiences from other partner nations including the Philippines. Among participating countries are the United States, forces from Canada, Fiji, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Tonga, and the United Kingdom. —Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
