Tenth edition of Global Exhibitions Day celebrated worldwide

Global Exhibitions Day theme 'Exhibitions Unleash Potential' reached audiences in over 100 countries and regions. Next year's GED will take place on Wednesday, 3 June 2026 . PARIS – The tenth edition of Global Exhibitions Day (GED) was celebrated worldwide on 4 June 2025 under the theme 'Exhibitions Unleash Potential'. This year's theme showcased how exhibitions empower individuals, elevate organisations, and drive economic and social growth through direct in-person interactions and connections. GED 2025's four key messages highlighted the transformative power of exhibitions across multiple dimensions. Exhibitions drive progress in industries by fostering collaboration and innovation; empower individuals by supporting the growth of both emerging and established talent; advance communities by fuelling economic development and societal progress; and strengthen companies by amplifying brand presence, building networks, and boosting revenue through face-to-face engagement. In the lead-up to and during GED 2025, according to UFI's initial numbers*, global activations had an online reach of over 800k across social media. The #GED2025 hashtag was widely used across the community to showcase the role and relevance of exhibitions in driving progress for people and the planet. The Snöball social card campaign mobilised over 150 individual advocates who generated and shared personalised GED visuals across their networks, further amplifying the visibility and impact of the day. The tenth Global Exhibitions Day coincided with the UFI European Events Week in Thessaloniki, Greece, with over 350 attendees. At the welcome reception, the special celebration included a ceremonial cake-cutting and a joyous birthday song session, marking the milestone with a sense of community and festivity. Leading global organisers Clarion Events, Comexposium, Emerald, Informa, and RX, weighed in on the importance of exhibitions in empowering people through in-person connection and fueling multi-sector trade and growth. Industry associations from around the world came together to share the importance of GED and to encourage others in their respective communities to participate. Hugh Jones, UFI President and CEO of RX, said: 'Global Exhibitions Day is a powerful demonstration of the exhibition industry's unity and impact. Around the world, our community came together to showcase how exhibitions connect people, ignite innovation, and drive growth across industries, communities, and economies. The day reaffirmed that face-to-face events remain essential platforms for building a more sustainable, inclusive, and prosperous future.'

Johor-Singapore SEZ draws investor interest from developers eyeing residential and industrial sites

[SINGAPORE] Investors are currently focused on acquiring residential and industrial development sites in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), where opportunities for growth in the hospitality sector are expected to present themselves in the longer-term. Govinda Singh, Colliers' executive director for Asia-Pacific Capital Markets, hotels, hospitality and advisory, said: 'Johor is still in its infancy when it comes to core real estate. There's still a lot of runway to grow as its population grows and as industry develops. The sector is going to become more and more mature. 'There's a lot of land there. There aren't enough good-quality assets to invest in as yet, but that will change in time.' He was speaking to an audience of mostly investors and developers at an event organised by Maybank and the Real Estate Developers' Association of Singapore (Redas) on Tuesday (May 6). Singh said: 'There's a big supply overhang at the moment in the high-end residential market. In the market for those buying second homes in Johor, a lot of the properties are being rented out, and even then, there's not enough demand from visitors. If we want more people to live and work (in Johor), we have to make it affordable.' He was speaking in a panel discussion with Vinothan Tulisinathzan, minister counsellor of the Malaysian Investment Development Authority in Singapore (MIDA) and Chong Paul Wee, real estate director of corporate banking at Maybank. The panel was moderated by Yvonne Tan, UOL Group's chief corporate and development officer. Sign Up Sign Up In February, GuocoLand announced that it would partner Malaysia's UEM Sunrise to develop selected freehold land parcels in Iskandar Puteri, within the JS-SEZ. Responding to a question on the likelihood of success of the JS-SEZ, Chong said: 'The JS-SEZ is the strongest attempt by both governments in making it happen. It's not by invitation of one or the other, but really a joining of hands in making the arrangement formal.' Tulisinathzan described the JS-SEZ as 'inevitable', and would have immense economic benefits for Malaysia and Singapore. Both governments are enhancing the infrastructure needed to facilitate trade and investment between Johor and Singapore. The rollout of QR code clearance at immigration checkpoints in Malaysia is expected to reduce clearance time by up to 75 per cent, Tulisinathzan said. 'There has been substantial discussion on a ferry service from Puteri Harbour to Tuas.. There's also desire to have a (second) Rapid Transit System Link from Tuas to Iskandar.' There is strong demand for industrial and logistics assets as Johor seeks to develop its semiconductor and pharmaceutical sectors, Singh said. The SEZ may also present opportunities for Johor to build a Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (Mice) industry. 'Johor has ample space and can differentiate itself from Singapore by offering larger capacity venues, especially to more price-sensitive organisers. Singapore's largest Mice venue has a total of only 123,000 sq m of indoor space.' The number of overnight visitors to the State of Johor is expected to double from 4 million in 2024 to 8 million in 2030, as transport connectivity and entertainment options are enhanced. Investors can seize the opportunity to target the mid-market hotel segment, which will deliver good returns; they can also home in on the upscale, internationally branded segment, which can lift average room rates in the area and create a more vibrant economic environment, Singh said. Developers can also consider venturing into the Build-to-Rent segment in Johor Bahru and Iskandar Puteri, which are expected to attract talent from the manufacturing, digital economy and health sectors. Singh said: 'When people come to a new place, they would usually look to rent, given that they don't know the market well, or can't afford to buy in the first instance.'' The proposed JS-SEZ presents new opportunities for greater cross-border collaboration and investment between Singapore and Johor, a Redas spokesman said. 'While the initiative is still taking shape, there is growing interest in its potential for sectors such as real estate, trade, infrastructure and hospitality.'

‘Bhutan perfect place to visit for Kuwaitis'

KUWAIT CITY, May 5: Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bhutan to Kuwait Chitim Tenzin said his country, which is located in the heart of the Himalayas, celebrated in 2024 the 50th anniversary of its official opening to tourism in 1974. This celebration is part of a solid development vision based on the concept of 'sustainable tourism' under the slogan 'High Value, Low Volume.' Tenzin made this statement to the press during the visit of a Bhutanese tourism delegation to Kuwait to promote Bhutan as a distinctive tourist destination suitable for Kuwaiti visitors. The delegation consists of 25 officials representing the tourism, hotel and airport sectors. This visit followed the participation of the delegation in a similar event held in Dubai recently, during which the launch of two new direct flights between Dubai and Bhutan was announced. He affirmed that Bhutan is a year-round tourist destination, owing to its diverse and moderate climate -- whether in its lush green summers or its cold, pure winters. He pointed out that visiting Bhutan does not require official invitations or complicated procedures. 'Flights can be booked through accredited local travel companies. Visa fees can be paid electronically at $100 per person per night, with discounts available for children. Visas can also be obtained within 24 hours for an additional fee,' he disclosed. He said the Kingdom offers special benefits for Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) groups; such as exemption from sustainable development fees for several days, provided that at least two days are allocated for official events within the visit program. He revealed that the Bhutanese Embassy in Kuwait is his country's first embassy in the Gulf, indicating that his country has only three embassies -- one of which is in Kuwait. On the other hand, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Royal Bhutan Airlines Tandi Wangchuk unveiled a future opportunity to operate direct flights between Kuwait and Bhutan, following the signing of an air services agreement between the two countries' governments last year. He explained that the agreement technically allows any Bhutanese or Kuwaiti airline to operate direct flights. Wangchuk stated 'we are currently in the commercial feasibility study phase of this direct route with Kuwait. No final decision has been made yet, but we are seriously evaluating this approach as part of our fleet expansion plans.' Regarding tourism, he asserted that Bhutan, thanks to its mountainous location and temperate climate, is a suitable haven for Gulf residents during the summer months. He is hoping that Bhutan will become a favorite destination for Kuwaiti tourists. 'We see a promising potential, especially with the presence of a large Bhutanese community in Kuwait -- estimated at about 8,000 people; in addition to the growing interest of Gulf investors in Bhutan as a tourist and investment destination,' he concluded. Representative of Bhutan Tourism Authority Kyi Zang confirmed that English is widely spoken in the Kingdom and is used alongside the official language, Dzongkha, in the educational system, making communication with foreign visitors easier.
