Reason why hit Sean Bean drama Shardlake isn't returning for season 2

Reason why hit Sean Bean drama Shardlake isn't returning for season 2 Shardlake is set to air on ITV for the first time tonight. Despite garnering glowing reviews, Shardlake won't be back for a second series. The historical drama makes its ITV debut tonight and is adapted from CJ Sansom's acclaimed novel series, starting with Dissolution. The show masterfully weaves fact and fiction, setting its narrative in the tumultuous era of King Henry VIII. ‌ Premiering on Disney Plus in 2024, Shardlake now occupies the prime 9pm slot on ITV1, offering an alternative to Maya Jama's Love Island premiere. ‌ Starring Sean Bean from Game of Thrones fame, Arthur Hughes as the Tudor lawyer Matthew Shardlake, and Anthony Boyle, the series delves into a gripping mystery. Thomas Cromwell (played by Sean) entrusts Shardlake with solving a murder linked to a monastery's closure, alongside his assistant Jack Barak (Anthony). Shardlake has landed on ITVX (Image: Hulu/YouTube ) Article continues below ITV makes major announcement and it involves Jeremy Clarkson and Ben Shephard READ MORE: Although Shardlake achieved a commendable 81% rating on Disney Plus, it has been confirmed that there will be no follow-up season due to its cancellation by the streaming service. The announcement of its discontinuation came this January, concurrent with the end of superhero comedy Extraordinary, as a Disney Plus representative informed Variety: "Disney+ Original series Extraordinary will not be returning for a third season on the service. "We're so proud of the hilarious, award-winning series brought to life by the incredibly talented British and Irish cast and crew, our production partners at Sid Gentle Films, and the exceptional writing talent of creator Emma Moran. ‌ "Disney+ Original series, Shardlake will also not be returning for a second season on the service. "We'd like to thank Stephen Butchard who adapted the late C.J. Sansom's beloved novel for the screen, the entire cast – led by the outstanding Arthur Hughes – and crew, and our production partners The Forge and Runaway Fridge. "We hope to work with all of our partners across these shows again in the future." ‌ Sean Bean stars in the historical drama (Image: Hulu/YouTube ) Though the thinking behind the cancellation was not officially confirmed, according to Radio Times, the team behind Shardlake had stressed they were keen to adapt the next book in Sansom's series, Dark Fire. Following Dissolution, the Shardlake novel series continued with Dark Fire, Sovereign, Revelation, Heartstone, Lamentation and Tombland, which was released in 2018. ‌ Despite his diagnosis with multiple myeloma in 2012, author Sansom continued writing and planning for future books. In a 2010 interview with The Guardian, he mused: "It would be nice to carry on into Elizabeth's time, and have someone I actually like on the throne. Shardlake meets Elizabeth in Heartstone, when she's just 11. By the time she comes to the throne, he will be long in the tooth and so will I, but I'd like to develop their relationship." However, he sadly died in April 2024 in a hospice near his home in Brighton at the age of 71. Shardlake began streaming on Disney+ just a week after his death. Gun carry law advances in House Committee

BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — A gun carry bill has cleared the Committee on Criminal Justice at the Louisiana State Capitol. The author of the bill, Senator Blake Miquez (R-New Iberia), said it's meant to bring consistency to all the various gun laws in the state. Opponents call it unnecessary and even add to the confusion. Gun-carrying laws have changed over the past couple of years in the state. Louisiana has become more friendly to gun carriers and Second Amendment Rights advocates. During the 2024 Second Extraordinary Legislative Session, a proposed bill written by Miguez was passed and signed into law. It allows law-abiding citizens ages 18 and older to carry their weapons without having a permit. As a result, there is a patchwork of laws dealing with three tiers of carriers: The constitutional carrier, the permit carrier, and the out-of-state carrier. Miguez authored Senate Bill 101 and said one area in which the bill offers consistency is with the 1,000-foot rule around schools. Current law prohibits the carrying of a firearm within that range, SB 101 would change that. 'The 1,000-foot zone around a school is the major part. There are some urban areas where there's a 1,000-foot zone, and it's on public property, you could walk your dog by your mailbox and be in it. We need to make sure you can defend yourself if you're a law-abiding citizen,' said Miguez. The bill does not allow the carrying of a firearm on school property, and those who are not legally allowed to carry a firearm would still be subject to prosecution for carrying a firearm near a school. The bill passed the committee, but not before opponents argued it was unnecessary and would put more guns closer to schools, creating more dangerous situations for kids.
