Crystal Palace boss reveals transfer concern amid Eberechi Eze speculation

Oliver Glasner is hopeful Eberechi Eze will not leave Crystal Palace for Arsenal this summer, as he took aim at the club's lack of transfer activity. This summer is a very important transfer window for Palace as they look to build upon their FA Cup triumph and record Premier League points tally. So far however, it has been a little underwhelming with back-up goalkeeper Walter Benitez (free) and left-back Borna Sosa (£3million) the only arrivals. Moreover, head coach Glasner faces the prospect of losing several key players before deadline day, most notably England duo Eze and Marc Guehi. Eze is of great interest to Arsenal and, if reports are to believed, would be keen on moving to the club that released him as a 13-year-old. It is said the Gunners don't want to pay his full release clause worth £68m but have not ruled out a move for the attacking midfielder who recorded 25 goal contributions last season. Centre-back and captain Guehi has entered the last year of his contract and is being tracked by Liverpool and Tottenham. Following the FA Cup victory in May, Glasner said he was given assurances by Palace's hierarchy that they would get their transfer business done early but that has not materialised. Palace are currently on a pre-season tour of Austria, where they played Mainz on Tuesday. Speaking to local newspaper Kronen Zeitung, the head coach has now vented his frustration: 'Even though all the players are still here, we haven't made the most of the transfer window so far. 'I was promised that we would be more active and bring in the new players earlier this year. 'As of now, I have 17 outfield players. I hope we don't lose any more. If that happens and we get four new ones on deadline day like last year, another false start is possible.' While last season ended brilliantly for the Eagles, it started terribly with the south London club winless in their opening eight league games and winning just one of their first 13 before their form turned around. In addition to Eze and Guehi, there has also been much interest in striker Jean-Philippe Mateta and defensive midfielder Adam Wharton, though the latter wishes to stay at Selhurst Park this coming season. More Trending Palace's transfer activity has been compromised somewhat as they still do not know what European competition they will playing in in 2025/26. The FA Cup victory qualified them for the Europa League but UEFA have controversially demoted them to the Conference League for a breach of Multi-Club Ownership rules. Palace are challenging the demotion at the Court of Arbitration for Sport but may not learn their fate until August 11, just days before the new Premier League campaign begins. Whatever happens, the Eagles will kick-off the new season against Liverpool in the Community Shield on August 10, before taking on Chelsea in their opening league game on August 17. Arsenal want to make Eze their seventh summer signing

Arsenal have set their sights on landing Eberechi Eze to cap off a busy summer of transfer business – but there is one potential snag in the club's pursuit of the Crystal Palace star. The Gunners' hierarchy may well be breathing a sigh of relief having finally got a deal over the line for Sporting striker Viktor Gyokeres, which, at one stage, appeared on the verge of collapse. The prolific Swede has now joined up with his new team-mates on their pre-season tour of Asia and could even be in line to make his debut on Thursday when Mikel Arteta's men take on bitter rivals Tottenham in Hong Kong. He became Arsenal's sixth signing of the window, following Kepa Arrizabalaga, Christian Norgaard, Cristhian Mosquera, Noni Madueke and Martin Zubimendi through the doors at the Emirates. But attentions have quickly turned to a possible seventh first-team addition, namely Palace and England attacking midfielder Eze, who racked up eight goals and eight assists in the Premier League last season. According to The Athletic, Arsenal bosses retain a strong interest in Eze and the player himself would be 'keen' to push through a switch north of the river this summer. However, there are some doubts and reservations over paying Eze's hefty £68million release clause at Selhurst Park and Arsenal may only be prepared to proceed if Palace slash their price for the 27-year-old. The report adds that any potential sales at the Emirates could, naturally, aid Arsenal's move for Eze, with the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Albert Sambi Lokonga, Fabio Vieira, and Karl Hein all deemed surplus to requirements. It's claimed one of Leandro Trossard or Gabriel Martinelli could also be offloaded should Arsenal be bring in another high-quality winger to fill the void. Eze's current contract with Palace runs through to June 2027. The England international has been with the Eagles for six seasons having joined the club from QPR for a fee in the region of £17m in 2020. In that time, Eze has found the net 39 times in all competitions for the south London outfit, with the most memorable goal of that number coming in the side's famous FA Cup victory over Manchester City in May. Eze had been in Arsenal's academy ranks as a youngster, but was released at the age of 13, going on to join Fulham, Reading and Millwall before winding up at Loftus Road. Once the transfer window closed last summer, Palace chairman Steve Parish said he was 'astounded' that there wasn't more interest in 'outstanding footballer' Eze. 'I was really worried from a club point of view of losing Michael [Olise] and Ebbs in the same window and we didn't have in Ebbs the interest that I thought we would have,' Paris told Sky Sports. 'I was astounded, genuinely astounded. I mean, the guy's just an outstanding footballer, an outstanding person.' After wrapping up the signing of Gyokeres, Arteta refused to rule out the possibility that Arsenal could further strengthen before the transfer deadline. 'Let's see. The market is still going on and we'll have to balance out the squad as well,' the Arsenal head coach told reporters. 'I think we'll be open to see what happens.' Arteta is more than satisfied with the business that Arsenal have managed to complete thus far and believes sporting director, Andrea Berta, has been 'absolutely fantastic' in the market. The Spaniard added: 'We can't talk about how the processes work, but it's a decision that we take between all of us, especially with ownership, then the board, then Andrea and the scouting department, and also myself and we were very clear on the talent that we identified in the window. 'But actually to deliver it is something very, very different and I think the club has done incredibly well, Andrea and his team, they've been absolutely fantastic. 'So I mean so early in the window, we already have the reinforcements that we wanted.' For more stories like this, check our sport page. The Gunners have finally completed the signing of Viktor Gyokeres, ending the summer's biggest transfer saga so far. ‌ Arsenal announced his £63.7million transfer on Saturday and now they can move on to other priorities. Even after Gyokeres' arrival and the signing of Noni Madueke, Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is still looking for refresh his attack. ‌ Plenty of names have been bandied about, including that of Real Madrid winger Rodrygo and Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers. But Eberechi Eze appears to be Arsenal's top target, as they aim to bring the Crystal Palace playmaker back after releasing him as a teenager. ‌ But it's not all about incomings, with their spending already close to the £200m mark. The Gunners will have to sanction departures before the summer transfer window closes on September 1 while they're also working on contract renewals. Here's a round-up of the latest transfer news from the Emirates. Saliba reveals contract stance William Saliba says that he'll 'hopefully' sign a new contract with Arsenal. Saliba's current deal expires in 2027 and the Gunners are keen to tie him down for the long term like centre-back partner Gabriel Magalhaes, who's under contract for four more years. Asked during Arsenal's pre-season tour of Asia whether he was going to sign a new deal, the 24-year-old Frenchman confirmed: "Yeah, hopefully. Of course there is nothing now but there is a good conversation with my agent and the club. Let's see." Arsenal's swap deal proposal suffers blow as Mikel Arteta eyes next big transfer

Arsenal are going after Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze and had considered using Reiss Nelson as part of the deal - but the winger is now in negotiations to join another of their London rivals Arsenal had been hoping to use Reiss Nelson in a swap deal that could've seen them land Crystal Palace 's Eberechi Eze - but the player is now in advanced talks to move to Fulham. ‌ Nelson spent last season on loan at Craven Cottage and discussions between the Gunners and their London rivals hinge on either a loan deal with an option to buy, which would include a significant fee, or a permanent transfer. An agreement is thought to be close, but not guaranteed, reports the Athletic. ‌ Nelson made himself a fixture under Marco Silva and played in 13 consecutive games for Fulham before suffering a season-ending hamstring injury in December. His contract at Arsenal ties him down until 2027, but he has very much fallen out of favour with the Gunners continuing to eye new recruits in the final third. ‌ Fulham have yet to make a signing this summer but have seen Willian and Carlos Vinicius leave on free transfers, which has only increased their need to bring in new faces, especially in attack. Arsenal, having now got a deal for Viktor Gyokeres over the line, are ready to increase their efforts to land Eze. The winger has just put himself into the Palace history books after scoring the winning goal in the FA Cup final. However the Eagles face a fight to keep their leading light, who has long been linked with a move away. Eze has made himself a regular England international and Arsenal believe he can add even more quality to their attack having seen moves for Nico Williams and Rodrygo cool this summer. ‌ Eze's preference is a move to the Emirates, as per The Independent, and those close to the player are confident a deal to take him to Arsenal will be completed in the next few weeks. The Gunners hope to secure a deal for £60million, rather than the reported £68m release clause, but the chances of giving Palace Nelson to appease them looks to be fading. It has previously been claimed that Arsenal were pushing for a deal that would involve three instalments of £20m. Throughout the summer the north Londoners have been linked with adding a wide forward to provide competition for the likes of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. Last summer Palace lost Michael Olise, who was a key figure in attack, to Bayern Munich. 12 months on and they're also battling to keep captain Marc Guehi with his contract winding down and Liverpool circling as they look to take advantage of the situation.
