Pilot and son, 13, killed in Majorca plane crash while 'performing stunts'
Stunned tourists watched the small aircraft, which appeared to be performing stunts, suddenly plummet into the sea - before rescue teams raced to the scene to recover the bodies An ex-military fighter pilot and his 13-year-old son have tragically died in a plane crash while performing stunts for tourists in Majorca. Holidaymakers were left stunned as they watched the small aircraft suddenly plummet into the sea before rescue teams raced to the scene to recover the bodies. The jet was first seen flying low at around 8.20pm on Saturday night at the resort village of Soller in the north-west of Majorca with no signs of struggle. When it crashed near Soller's port - surrounded by cliffs, houses and hotels - witnesses gasped in horror. Members of the Fire Station of the Port of Sóller, Maritime Rescue and the GEAS of the Civil Guard were immediately activated to carry out search and rescue work. A spokesman for the Civil Guard in Majorca said at 2pm local time: 'Around 1pm Civil Guard diving specialists from the elite GEAS unit mobilised as part of the emergency response involving our force, coastguards, the Navy and Air Force, recovered the bodies of the pilot and his son who was with him in the plane. The bodies have been taken to Soller Port.' It comes after a warning to Brit tourists planning all-inclusive holidays to Spain. The 60-year-old and his son, believed to be 13, have not yet been officially named. The dead man has been described locally as an ex combat pilot with 'extensive experience' in flying F-18 and F-14 fighter jets operating from US Navy aircraft carriers. The Majorca Fire Department had previously said that everything indicated one or two people may have been on board. The Guardia Civil have meanwhile spoken to a number of witnesses. One of them, a local resident who was at sea with his family, said he had spotted the plane flying very low. It then passed roughly 15 to 20 metres above the group before crashing into the water and then sinking. The plane is said to have been found at a depth of around 30 metres.

Police, intelligence agencies: Govt to allocate plots of land in Islamabad to families of martyrs
ISLAMABAD: The federal government is set to allocate plots for the families of martyrs of police and intelligence agencies in different schemes of Islamabad. Federal Minister for Housing and Works Riaz Hussain Pirzada announced the decision, saying his ministry is preparing a detailed summary to be submitted before the federal cabinet, proposing the allotment of plots to families of martyrs from police and intelligence agencies as a token of respect and acknowledgment for their sacrifices. In a significant milestone for the Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA), Federal Minister for Housing and Worksformally handed over possession letters to the allottees of the Sky Gardens Housing Project in a ceremony held Thursday at the project site. Sky Gardens is a flagship joint venture FGEHA project, agreed and signed in 2019. Located in a scenic hilly area off the New Murree Expressway, the project spans over 11,000 kanals, out of which, 7,200 kanals have been transferred to the FGEHA. Initially the FGEHA handed over possession of fully developed plots in Block A to the respective allottees. They are now entitled and eligible to build their houses at the developed site, the minister added. This scheme was primarily designated for federal employees registered during the 2009 membership drive. The project comprises 10 residential blocks, with development work ongoing. Under Phase I, allottees have now been granted possession of plots in Block A, which covers 250 kanals and is fully developed, equipped with all basic amenities, and clear for handover. Riaz Hussain Pirzada stated those who invested their hard-earned savings and waited patiently for years are now seeing their dreams come true. This is just the first drop of rain — God willing! other stalled projects will also be expedited. The minister reaffirmed his commitment to completing all ongoing projects in a timely manner and eliminating corruption. He condemned the past inefficiencies and delays, reiterating a zero-tolerance policy. The FGEHA DG briefed the participants on the current status of the project and expressed optimism that possession of three additional blocks would be available to allottees by December 2025. He announced that development work for Lifestyle Residencia, Kashmir Avenue Apartments, and sectors F-14 and F-15 will commence by September 2025. Copyright Business Recorder, 2025

Iran considering buying Chinese fighter jets: Report
TEHRAN: Following the ceasefire with Israel, Iran is considering buying modern Chinese fighter jets, German Press Agency (dpa) reported. The Iranian daily Entekhab reported on Tuesday that specifically, Tehran is interested in the export version of the Chengdu J-10 fighter jet. The paper said that a trip to the Chinese coastal city of Qingdao a few days ago by the Iranian defence minister for a meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) should also be seen in this context. Iran's greatest military weakness is its outdated air force, the modernisation of which has hardly been possible to date due to tough international sanctions. Many aircraft, including F-14 models, date back to the time before the Iranian Revolution of 1979 when Tehran maintained close relations with the United States. As part of its military cooperation with Russia, Iran has been trying for years to acquire modern Su-35 fighter jets - so far without success. In its defence doctrine, Tehran has instead focused on militant groups in the region as well as a missile and drone programme. International sanctions have largely cut Iran off from the global financial system. The country's most important state revenue comes from oil sales - with China as the most important, albeit unofficial, customer. A defence deal would therefore be theoretically possible, the Entekhab report argued. Whether Beijing is prepared to sell remains unclear. Israel attacked Iran Israel attacked Iran on June 13 and bombed targets across the country. The government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu cited the threat posed by Iran's controversial nuclear programme as the reason for the attack.

Chinese Satellite Image Shows Destruction of Iran Drone Factory
New imagery released by a Chinese commercial satellite company has revealed the destruction of an alleged Iranian drone factory during Israel's two-week air campaign against Iran. Newsweek has contacted the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) for comment. Iran's civilian-military infrastructure was targeted by a wave of Israeli airstrikes that began in the early hours of June 13 local time, with the attacks also targeting nuclear facilities in Tehran and in other cities. Iran's expanding drone program is central to its shift toward asymmetric warfare and regional deterrence. Tehran said it has accelerated the development and deployment of diverse drone facilities and systems. This growing capability has alarmed U.S. lawmakers. The undated satellite photograph published by China's MizarVision on Wednesday showed a warehouse near Mehrabad Airport in western Tehran that had been completely leveled, although the exact date of the hit was unclear. Open-source analyst Mehdi H., commenting on similar satellite imagery captured by Maxar on Tuesday, said the warehouse struck by the IDF had been used by the Iranian state-owned company Quds Aviation Industries to design and build unmanned aerial vehicles including its Mohajer drones. Newsweek could not independently verify the claim. According to the BBC, images authenticated in the aftermath of Israeli airstrikes showed that Mehrabad Airport had been struck several times, with satellite imagery revealing several damaged buildings around the area, including warehouses linked to Iran's defense industry. During its military offensive, the IDF said it had destroyed F-14 jets in central Iran and targeted military sites. Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in his first statement since the ceasefire: "Anyone expecting Iran to surrender to another country is making a foolish and absurd claim that will certainly be ridiculed by wise and knowledgeable people. The Iranian nation is dear and will remain dear; it is victorious and will remain victorious, by God's grace." U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said: "The reality is…this was a historically successful attack we should celebrate as Americans, and it gives us a chance to have peace, chance to have a deal, and opportunity to prevent a nuclear Iran, which is something President Trump talked about for 20 years." The current ceasefire between Israel and Iran is holding, for now. Whether Iran is willing to reenter nuclear negotiations with the United States is another question.
