JOIN FDI WORLD DENTAL FEDERATION'S 2025 VIRTUAL SUMMIT TO ADVANCE SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES IN DENTISTRY AND REDUCE THE PROFESSION'S ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT
GENEVA, May 22, 2025 /CNW/ -- FDI World Dental Federation (FDI) is proud to announce the third edition of its Virtual Summit on Sustainability in Dentistry, taking place from 05 - 06 June 2025 from 10:00 to 11:30 AM EST / 04:00 to 05:30 PM CEST. This landmark event continues to provide a global platform for exchanging knowledge, showcasing real-world implementation strategies, and offering practical tools to advance sustainability in the dental profession. Following the overwhelming success of its 2023 and 2024 Summits, this year's event focuses on equipping oral health professionals with actionable solutions and evidence-based guidance. Attendees will hear from sustainability leaders across the industry, explore inspiring case studies, and gain access to new educational resources designed to transform environmental commitments into lasting practice change. "We are thrilled to host the Sustainability in Dentistry Summit once again," says Dr Greg Chadwick, FDI President. "This year's programme is especially exciting as we shift the focus from theory to implementation. By offering concrete tools and resources, FDI is empowering oral health professionals around the world to be part of the solution. Environmental sustainability is not just a goal – it's a professional responsibility. We are deeply grateful to our founding partners – Dentsply Sirona, Haleon, and Sunstar – as well as our supporting partners, whose ongoing commitment and collaboration make this work possible. Their dedication continues to drive innovation and meaningful progress in our profession." In 2025, FDI has unveiled various new resources as part of its Sustainability in Dentistry Project. A second Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), Tackling Common Challenges to Sustainable Dentistry, was launched earlier this year. This new course moves beyond foundational principles and supports dental teams in implementing sustainable practices, addressing common barriers and offering practical strategies. In addition, FDI has developed a suite of educational resources for academic institutions and training providers. These materials are designed to support curriculum integration and institutional change, equipping the next generation of dental professionals with the knowledge and values needed to champion environmental responsibility. Since the launch of the Sustainability in Dentistry Project in 2021, FDI has highlighted innovative efforts across its global network of national dental associations, academic institutions, and private practices. Initiatives like the Sustainability Toolkit, Pledge for Sustainable Oral Healthcare, and Sustainability Awards continue to drive momentum, while strategic partnerships with industry leaders ensure long-term impact. Haleon launches the 'Smile Bank' initiative in partnership with the Egyptian Dental Association and the FDI
Haleon, maker of Sensodyne, has partnered with the Egyptian Dental Association and FDI World Dental Federation to launch the 'Sensodyne Smile Bank' initiative. The 3-year program will deliver free dental checkups and treatments to 1 million Egyptians annually through 2027, enhancing oral health accessibility across the nation. Cairo: Haleon, a global leader in consumer health, signed today a Memorandum of Understanding with the Egyptian Dental Association to launch the 'Sensodyne Smile Bank' initiative. Over the next three years, the initiative will deploy dental convoys across all governorates, providing free dental check-ups and treatments to three million citizens in need. Also, in collaboration with the FDI World Dental Federation and Egyptian universities, awareness campaigns on oral hygiene will be conducted, and medical education programs will be developed for young dentists. Additionally, the campaign encourages Egyptians to share their smiles on social media using the hashtag #سنسوداين_إبتسامتك_دوا_لأي_حساسية with each post supporting people who most need care. Prof. Tarek Abbas - President of the Egyptian Dental Association said: 'One of our main goals during Smile Bank initiative is to promote preventive oral health care to improve patients' wellbeing. Through this partnership with Haleon, our efforts will not be limited to treating patients, we will provide training programs to junior dentists and use this opportunity to raise public awareness about the importance of oral dental hygiene routines and the best practices to avoid teeth sensitivity.' Dr. Nahawand Thabet consultant in dentistry and the African representative of the World Dental Federation (FDI) council said: 'Oral diseases affect roughly 3 billion people globally, yet they are largely preventable with the right oral hygiene habits. In Egypt, oral health remains a challenge, with 3 out of 5 people suffering from tooth sensitivity and 1 in 3 experience gum bleeding during routine brushing. Despite this, the toothpaste penetration stands at only 60%. Through this collaboration, we are pleased to bring attention to the importance of oral hygiene, empowering Egyptians and young dentists with Haleon's support.' Asif Alavi, General Manager of North Africa at Haleon said: 'At Haleon, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live in good health, yet barriers like limited access and awareness prevent millions from achieving better everyday health. We are proud to partner with the Egyptian Dental Association and FDI to promote oral health and create healthier smiles across Egypt. Sensodyne is redefining how we give back to the community with the 'Smile Bank initiative' and we're turning smiles into action – where every shared smile with the hashtag #سنسوداين_إبتسامتك_دوا_لأي_حساسية helps provide dental care to those in need.' The Smile Bank initiative aligns with Haleon's global health inclusivity goals, empowering millions in Egypt to adopt effective self-care practices and maximize the positive outcomes that self-care can bring.

World Oral Health Day 2025: Haleon, FDI Lead Effort to Improve Oral Health in Morocco
Rabat – Morocco's oral health challenges stood at the heart of a major event that marked World Oral Health Day 2025. Haleon, a global leader in consumer healthcare, partnered with the FDI World Dental Federation and the Moroccan Association of Oro-Dental Prevention to bring together over 200 dental professionals, industry experts, and key stakeholders yesterday at the Hyatt Regency Casablanca. The event's goal is to promote awareness, encourage prevention, and improve access to care under the slogan 'Happy Mouth, Happy Mind.' Oral health demands serious attention, particularly in Morocco, where it remains a pressing concern. Tooth sensitivity affects more than half of Moroccan adults, and nearly one in five people over 15 suffer from severe periodontal disease. Despite these statistics, many go without treatment, unaware of the risks that poor oral hygiene poses to overall well-being. Nawab Rabi, a representative of both the Moroccan Association of Oro-Dental Prevention and the African Regional Organization of the FDI World Dental Federation, described the urgency of the problem. 'With 36% of Moroccans aged five and older experiencing untreated dental caries, our collaboration with Haleon is dedicated to enhancing preventive strategies, promoting oral health literacy, and increasing access to professional care, underscoring the essential connection between oral hygiene and overall well-being,' Rabi said. For Yasser Abdelmoneim, Head of Expert, North Africa at Haleon, dental practitioners play an important part in addressing such oral health complications. 'As experts, our role goes beyond treatment. We must educate, empower, and endorse dentists. Too many patients delay care, unaware of the consequences of untreated oral health issues,' Abdelmoneim stated. He added that Haleon is 'committed to providing dental professionals with the latest research, technology, and clinical insights through different touch points being face to face or digital interactions.' Meanwhile, Asif Alavi, Haleon's Manager of North Africa, called for stronger efforts to prevent oral diseases before they take hold. 'Oral diseases are largely preventable, yet they continue to impose a heavy burden on individuals and healthcare systems,' he lamented. Alavi reiterated Haleon's commitment to 'supporting dental professionals in Morocco through initiatives like the Haleon Health Partner portal, which provides access to clinical research, webinars, and tools that enhance health literacy.' 'By working alongside partners like FDI and the Moroccan Association of Oro-Dental Prevention, we aim to strengthen preventive measures, improve accessibility, and drive oral health education across the country, he added.' Haleon leads a variety of programs to help improve oral health in Morocco. Its most recommended product against tooth sensitivity, Sensodyne, is at the center of training programs and partnerships with industry leaders to deliver better care. The company also plans to engage every Moroccan dentist by 2026 and disseminate their knowledge, expertise, and resources to facilitate greater care for their patients. At the event, attendees had the chance to experience a VR simulation designed to enhance oral professional training. The interactive session provided valuable insights into effective oral care and demonstrated Haleon's commitment to innovation. By working with FDI and Moroccan dental associations, Haleon seeks to raise awareness and improve access to care. Prevention and education are top priorities in the company's line of vision, as they look to make more Moroccans have healthier smiles and improved overall quality of life. A Happy Mouth Is a Happy Mind: FDI World Dental Federation features new song to raise awareness of the link between oral health and mental well-being.
GENEVA, March 20, 2025 /CNW/ -- How does oral health affect mental well-being? This World Oral Health Day (WOHD), the FDI World Dental Federation (FDI) aims to answer that question with a catchy new song, now available on all streaming platforms. The song invites people worldwide to sing along and raise awareness about the powerful connection between oral health and mental well-being. The WOHD campaign continues its three-year 'A Happy Mouth Is...' theme , shifting from the mouth-body connection in 2024 to the mouth-mind connection in 2025, encapsulated in the tagline, 'A Happy Mouth Is a Happy Mind.' This year's theme emphasizes that caring for the oral cavity not only supports overall health but also boosts self-esteem, enhances confidence, and improves quality of life. The heart of the campaign is its lively new anthem and an accompanying video , featuring Toothie , FDI's beloved oral health mascot. The song is designed to inspire people worldwide—from individuals to communities and policymakers—to prioritize oral health. After all, everyone deserves a healthy mouth, free from oral disease. 'Oral health is a right, not a privilege,' says FDI President Dr Greg Chadwick. 'Yet, for many people around the world, access to essential dental care remains out of reach. Despite progress, oral health inequalities persist globally. Many underprivileged communities and vulnerable groups face significant barriers to accessing affordable, quality dental care, leaving them at greater risk of preventable diseases. As oral health is a key pillar of universal health coverage, FDI continues to advocate for comprehensive and inclusive healthcare policies.'' In this context, WOHD serves as a powerful opportunity to unite and amplify voices, urging governments to take decisive action. 'That is why we are incredibly proud to partner with organizations like Haleon , Dentsply Sirona , Solventum , and Smile Train ,' continues Dr Chadwick. 'Through these collaborations, we extend our reach, raise awareness, and empower individuals to take control of their oral health. Together, we can reduce the global burden of oral disease and improve access to quality oral health.' This year, FDI has also launched a Call for Stories , inviting people from around the world to share personal and community experiences or initiatives about how oral health has transformed their lives. Leading by example, partners have started sharing theirs. ''It is by amplifying real voices that we aim to inspire action and drive meaningful change. Because at the end of the day, it's by hearing those stories that we can connect with people and enact meaningful change,' says Dr Anna Lella, WOHD Working Group Chair. This World Oral Health Day, let's unite, take action, and spread the message that oral health matters. Share the song, share your story , and help us create a world where everyone can enjoy the benefits of a happy, healthy mouth. - Picture is available at AP - Media contact Chaz Jagait, FDI Communications and Advocacy Director Mob.: +41 79 796 76 13 Email: [email protected] About World Oral Health Day Celebrated annually on 20 March, World Oral Health Day (WOHD) was launched by FDI World Dental Federation to raise global awareness on the prevention and control of oral diseases. ; #WOHD25 #HappyMouth ; @worldoralhealthday ; @Toothiebeaver Video - Logo - SOURCE FDI World Dental Federation
