Fond du Lac teen flown to trauma center after crash with vehicle while riding bike
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – A 13-year-old from Fond du Lac had to be flown to a trauma center after a crash with a vehicle at the intersection of Pioneer Road on Friday afternoon. According to the Fond du Lac Police Department, officers were called to the East Pioneer Road and Martin Avenue intersection around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, June 6, for reports of a vehicle and bicycle crash. Officers say their preliminary investigation indicated that a 13-year-old Fond du Lac boy was riding his bike westbound on the sidewalk. Witnesses stated that the traffic light for northbound and southbound lanes had turned green. Two dead, one hospitalized after crash in Shawano County As a van began to continue north after the green light, officers stated that is when the boy crashed into the front passenger side of the van. The teenager suffered 'significant trauma' to one of his legs and had to be flown by a ThedaStar medical helicopter to a trauma center. Officers noted that his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. Our hearts go out to the young boy and his family, and we are hopeful for a full recovery. As summer begins and more children are outside riding bikes, this is a powerful reminder for parents to review safety rules with their kids, including wearing a helmet, walking bikes across busy streets, and making eye contact with drivers before crossing, to name a few. Chicago man arrested after trying to leave scene of Fond du Lac firearm incident in an Uber
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – A Chicago man who was wanted on a federal parole warrant was arrested after a firearm incident inside a Fond du Lac residence where five children were home at the time. A release from the Fond du Lac Police Department details the incident where a 31-year-old man from Chicago allegedly pointed a gun at a woman inside a home on North Butler Street. Around 11:45 p.m. on January 30, officers responded to a 911 call from a woman who stated that a man pointed a gun at her while they were inside the residence. Officers noted that five children ranging from newborn to 13 years old were inside the home as well. One injured in Campbellsport multi-unit house fire, family left without home FDLPD learned while responding to the incident that the suspect, a 31-year-old man from Chicago, reportedly was wanted by the US Marshals on a federal parole warrant for the 'possession of a machine gun and dangerous drugs.' A perimeter was set up around the house in order to make contact with the suspect and try to rescue those inside. A Bear Cat, K9 team, and the Technology Response Group joined Fond du Lac SWAT and Crisis Negotiations teams. Officers say that the man allegedly tried to leave the scene in an Uber in an attempt to escape. He was then taken into custody without further incident. Officers recovered a firearm from the scene. The rapid and coordinated response by our FDLPD Officers and partner agencies ensured that this dangerous incident was resolved without further harm to the victim or children involved. Fond du Lac Police: Search underway for missing sex offender who cut off GPS tracker
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WFRV) – A critical update has been released by the Fond du Lac Police Department (FDLPD) regarding a registered sex offender under supervision. According to a Facebook post from FDLPD, authorities want the public to stay informed while searching for 55-year-old Chad A. Maertz. Authorities describe him as a white male, measuring 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 192 pounds. He has blond hair with a shaved/blading head and brown eyes. Teenager identified as suspect in Wisconsin homicide, shooting still under investigation Maertz reportedly has a criminal history, including a conviction for abduction of another's child on December 18, 2002, in Fond du Lac County. Earlier today, the FDLPD learned that Maertz cut off his GPS monitoring device, making it hard for authorities to track his location. He has left his residence at 99 W. Division Street; his current whereabouts are unknown. The FDLPD urges the public to report any suspicious activities or sightings of Maertz or his vehicle. If he or his vehicle is seen, police say to call 911 immediately.
