FJCCI calls for suspension of trade with Turkiye & Azerbaijan
1 2 Ranchi: In a significant move that reflects growing national sentiments, the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industry ( FJCCI ) announced the suspension of trade activities with Turkiye and Azerbaijan . The decision comes in response to the two countries' recent political stances perceived as unfavourable to India, including support for Pakistan after India's counter-terrorism strikes across the Line of Control (LoC). In the aftermath of Ankara and Baku's statements backing Islamabad, Indian sentiment has shifted sharply, with online travel companies advising Indian citizens against visiting Turkiye and Azerbaijan. FJCCI has also scheduled a meeting with traders of different businesses in Jharkhand on Monday to bolster the appeal to the trade suspension. The federation's main focus will be on ceasing booking tours to Turkiye and Azerbaijan, both popular destinations among Indian tourists, including those from Jharkhand. Talking to TOI, FJCCI chairman of export sub-committee Suresh Agarwal said though Jharkhand has no direct export and import link with both countries, some items, including Turkish marble and food items, have been purchased by Indian traders. "A few traders in Jharkhand deal in Turkish marble, imported by other states. However, I have no information on Turkish food items imported to Jharkhand. No item is exported to both countries from Jharkhand. Indian traders in many parts of the country have initiated informal boycotts, causing a noticeable drop in the purchase of Turkish apples and marbles. FJCCI will also follow the steps," Agarwal said. The chairman added that the federation will appeal to the traders in Jharkhand to boycott items imported from Turkiye and Azerbaijan so that the two countries could feel the blow to their economy. "Additionally, the economy of both countries is dependent on tourism, and many from Jharkhand also visit tourist destinations in Turkiye and Azerbaijan. The federation appeals to tour and travel operators in the state to suspend tours to the two countries, ensure security of Indian tourists and also to make the countries incur loss in the tourism sector," Agarwal added.

FJCCI pushes for enhanced agri-export infrastructure in state
Ranchi: To enhance interstate and international trade of agricultural produce from Jharkhand, the 'ahari sub-committee' of the Federation of Jharkhand Chamber of Commerce and Industries ( FJCCI ) has appealed to the state govt to immediately establish a robust infrastructure and a supportive ecosystem for agri-export. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The chamber has called for the construction of integrated pack houses in Ranchi, Medininagar, Giridih and Godda as part of the effort. Additionally, they demanded a dry port in Jamshedpur, pesticide residue and NABL-accredited labs and the upgrading of the Birsa Munda airport to international standards to facilitate direct air cargo exports of local produce. FJCCI also emphasised the need for establishing a food processing and food industry directorate and constructing a cargo terminal at the airport. Officials of the chamber also stressed that the state's farmers, who grow ample vegetables, fruits, paddy, pulses and minor forest produce, suffer from the absence of proper market linkages and often sell their produce at low prices. FJJCI president Paresh Gattani said, "The business community will provide full support to boost farmers' income and work alongside the govt in developing export-ready infrastructure." These crucial decisions were taken during a workshop hosted by the 'ahari sub-committee' at the Chamber Bhawan, focusing on agricultural trade expansion. The experts present on the occasion discussed cargo logistics , dry port services, and schemes for Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), emphasising that the state's small and marginal farmers are required to be empowered through collective marketing strategies.

April heat pushes sale of ACs, coolers
Amid soaring temperatures, electrical stores in Ranchi are witnessing a rise in sales of cooling appliances, from basic tower fans to premium air conditioners. "Sales have almost doubled compared to last year. The heat has pushed people to invest in comfort. ACs are flying off the shelves, and even pedestal fans are in high demand," said Rajeev Sinha, manager at Khosla Electronics on MG Road. Retailers across Main Road, Upper Bazar, and Kutchery Chowk reported a significant spike in AC sales, with prices ranging between Rs 28,000-Rs 60,000. New models, featuring five-star ratings and smart cooling technology, are particularly attractive to tech-savvy consumers. "Customers are increasingly conscious about energy consumption, preferring inverter technology and energy-efficient compressors. Brands offering doorstep delivery and free installation are gaining popularity," said Vivekananda, owner of Sai Electronics in Harmu. Electric coolers and tower fans have emerged as popular budget-friendly alternatives. "Tower fans are trending due to their child-safe features, sleek design, and effectiveness," Vivekananda said. Stores have implemented pre-booking systems and express delivery services, with EMI options to attract middle-income buyers. Former FJCCI president Kishore Mantri said local retailers were also using online platforms to push their sales.
