An official statement from Naval Air Station Lemoore is expected shortly.
Commissioned in July 1961, the air base is US Navy's largest Master Jet Base. The base is home to over half of Navy's F/A-18E/F Super Hornet fighters. It has the honor of being the only naval air base which to house the F-35C Lightning II, a variant of America's most advanced stealth fighter.
