Jetoptera and Eanan J500 VTOL Cargo UAS Turbocompressor Map Testing Campaign
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, July 23, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Jetoptera and EANAN have marked another milestone in their collaborative development of the J-500, a 500-lb class VTOL-capable cargo drone, with the successful start of the turbocompressor mapping campaign; an essential step toward the realization of the aircraft's advanced propulsion capabilities. At the core of the J-500 is Jetoptera's proprietary Fluidic Propulsive System™ (FPS™), powered by a 250 kW turbocompressor developed by the USA based company, Jetoptera. This innovative propulsion architecture offers a modular and scalable solution designed for reduced noise, enhanced safety, and unmatched mission versatility. The First Engine to Test (FETT) was immediately followed by the Second Engine test campaign hosted by EANAN at its facilities in the UAE. The turbocompressor mapping is a critical step to validate the operability of this innovative modular propulsion system. The two-stage axial compressor driven by a free turbine is being tested for safe operability throughout the mission, from take-off to cruise to loitering, to vertical landing. 'The state-of-the-art setup that EANAN and Jetoptera have built is heavily instrumented to accurately characterize the efficiencies and operability of the heart of the FPS™,' said Dr. Andrei Evulet, Jetoptera CEO and former Technology Maturation and Integration Leader at GE Aerospace, where he led the successful test campaign of the GE9X High Pressure Compressor. 'In the first weeks of testing we obtained results that demonstrate operability of the compressor model design and support our plan to deliver the propulsion system for the J-500 as planned.' Two units are currently mapped; the results so far are promising. The Free Turbine Compressor (FTC-250) represents an unprecedented modularity in design, with the gas generator, FTC and FPS™ subsystems being able to operate in FPS™ configurations for V/STOL and low noise mission stages, as turbofan, bypassing the FPS™ for a dedicated nozzle for highest-speed mission stages. The gas generator itself can be used as a turbojet with the addition of a simple convergent nozzle. The Specific Fuel Consumption (SFC) decreases from the turbojet mode (which is the simplest and lightest application for conventional flight) to turbofan and finally to the FPS™, with targeted SFC 2-3 times lower than the turbojet's mode. The campaign also furthers the design of the controls of the aircraft. Unlike common UAVs that rely on rotors and propellers, the J-500 leverages a pneumatic system to distribute compressed air through dynamically actuated valves to the FPS™ thrusters, enabling precise control of the aircraft's attitude and maneuvering. Ulrich Weckx, CEO of EANAN, emphasized the significance of this partnership: 'The J-500 is a symbol of what can be achieved when innovation meets execution. Our collaboration with Jetoptera allows us to jointly develop a revolutionary propulsion-integrated airframe that leverages Jetoptera's unique FPS™ technology, while benefiting from EANAN's testing infrastructure in the UAE. This test campaign is not only a technical success; it's a strategic step forward in our shared vision to redefine advanced air mobility'. Delhi to link digital scales with ePoS at ration shops
New Delhi: In a move to enhance transparency and accountability in Delhi's Public Distribution System (PDS), the food and civil supplies department will soon integrate electronic point of sale (ePoS) devices with digital weighing machines at all 1,967 fair price shops (FPS) across the city. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This step aims to curb manipulation in manual weighing, which often leads to under-delivery of subsidised food grains. The digital system will reduce the scope for fraud and ensure accurate quantity delivery to beneficiaries, an official said. The decision was made on the instructions of food and civil supplies minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, after a meeting with department officials and the Delhi Sarkari Ration Dealers Sangh. "This integration is a long-awaited reform that will eliminate discrepancies and ensure real-time authentication," Sirsa stated. He directed all FPS dealers and officials to ensure regular maintenance of ePoS machines, stressing that no eligible beneficiary should be denied ration due to technical issues. He also reinforced the implementation of the 'One Nation, One Ration Card' (ONORC) scheme to ensure timely distribution of ration to migrant beneficiaries. "Strict action will be taken against FPS dealers who deny rightful ration under NFSA. All shops must clearly display ONORC eligibility details to help migrant beneficiaries access their entitlements easily," the official said. The integration will enable real-time weight data recording during transactions, helping prevent stock diversion and malpractices. tnn

EA's big reveal for its next Battlefield game may already be spoiled
Looks like we can skip the drum roll for the next Battlefield title reveal. Seen in a leak of Electronic Arts' upcoming first-person shooter, the company is shipping promotional materials to content creators for Battlefield 6. The name drop may not be all that surprising, but the highly anticipated title could be a turning point for EA that follows up on Battlefield 2042, which was released in 2021 and currently sits at a Mixed review rating on Steam. In the since-deleted post, gaming YouTuber DooM49 revealed a promotional crate labeled Battlefield 6 that was reportedly sent to him by EA. The mysterious package was secured by straps that could hint at potential game modes, with words like "conquest," "breakthrough" and "rush" wrapped around the box. Another Battlefield content creator, rivaLxfactor, shared more details about the rumored EA event, corroborating the info from DooM49. As seen in the post on X, EA will reportedly hold a three-day event to reveal Battlefield 6, starting on July 29. The event will also reportedly feature interviews with the game's developers and show off some content with invited guests. The leaks also point to EA potentially launching the open beta for Battlefield 6 after the event. EA hasn't confirmed the leaks, nor announced an official reveal event yet. However, EA previously detailed in its fourth quarter financial results that it would reveal the new Battlefield game in the summer. After the official reveal, the company plans to launch the next Battlefield title before April 2026, according to EA's roadmap.

'BioShock' Creator's Upcoming 'Judas' Will Be A Complete Single-Player Game With No Microtransactions
Ken Levine, best known for creating the BioShock series and his work on the 1999 sci-fi classic, System Shock 2 , has revealed that his upcoming first-person shooter (FPS), Judas , will be an 'old-school' single-player experience, and will not include modern gaming troupes like live-service elements or any online component. Speaking during an interview with System Shock 2 developer Nightdive Studios on YouTube, Levine confirmed that Judas will not only feel like BioShock , something that was already obvious from what its trailers have shown, but it will also follow the same format of the games, being purely a single-player adventure focused on 'telling the story and transporting the player', and not on an abundance of multiplayer content or monetisation that's prevalent in many modern titles today. 'I grew up playing single-player games,' Levine said. 'And I grew up before certain types of monetisation existed. I'm not here at all to say this is bad, or this is good, right? That's not really my thing. I know the kinds of games I like to make, and so we never made a [live-service] game.' 'Juas is a very old-school game,' he continued, 'You buy the game and you get the whole thing. There's no online component. There's no live service, because everything we do is in service of telling the story and transporting the player somewhere.' In an industry so plagued with rampant monetisation and the constant push for 'shared experiences' by including some sort of multiplayer component, it's refreshing to see a developer double down on what makes gaming so great to begin with, transporting a player into an immersive digital world in a finely crafted story-driven experience, instead of blindly chasing trends. Let's hope that Judas becomes a great success, so that more developers will learn from Levine's example and return gaming to its glory days, free of live-service and monetisation woes. For now, the game does not have a firm release window, so fans will just have to wait and see how it shapes up.
