Andhra Pradesh resumes ration delivery at fair price shops

The TDP-led NDA government in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday resumed delivery of essential commodities at fair price shops, replacing the supply through Mobile Dispensing Units (MDUs). State ministers launched the programme at various places. Essential commodities, like rice, sugar and pulses, will be delivered at 29,796 fair price shops across the state. Differently abled and citizens above 65 years will continue to get the essentials at their doorsteps. Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Nadendla Manohar launched the distribution of essential commodities through the Fair Price Shop (FPS) in Peethapuram. In his remarks on the occasion, he said beneficiaries no longer need to wait for MDUs or skip work anymore and can collect their rations at their convenience. Under the revamped system, ration card holders can collect their entitlements from any ration shop in the state. The ration shops will be open for the first 15 days of every month from 8 a.m. to 12 noon and 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Shops will remain open on Sundays during the distribution period. Manohar said the government would further strengthen the public distribution system. CCTV cameras will be installed at ration shops and customers will be provided with all facilities. "We have also put up a QR code at every ration shop. If consumers want to file a complaint, they can scan it directly and share their problems. We will take action against dealers if the shop does not open on time or if there is any discrepancy in weight or quality," he said. The department has created a separate WhatsApp group for the differently abled and the elderly, he said, adding that dealers have to post a photo of themselves going to their homes and giving them rations. The state Cabinet last month decided to restore the delivery of essentials through fair price shops, replacing supply through MDUs, which was introduced by the previous government of the YSR Congress Party. The coalition government alleged that the public distribution system was mismanaged under YSRCP rule. It accused the previous government of spending Rs 1,600 crore on MDUs, which failed to serve the people effectively. However, YSR Congress President and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy lashed out at the coalition government for doing away with the ration supply through MDUs. He asked Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu why he was against the services being delivered to the people at their homes. In a post on 'X on Sunday, he asked Naidu why he was bringing hardship to the poor again. "Is it a vision to end the door delivery system of government services?" he asked. He alleged that BC, SC, ST and minority families relying on 9,260 ration vehicles have been thrown on the road. "Does this government have any humanity? Is it right to remove these vehicles that provide services to people at their doorsteps in a transparent manner and serve them more during floods and disasters,' he asked. Jagan Mohan Reddy stated that before the YSRCP government came to power, the poor had to face many hardships in getting their monthly rations, including the right to food security. They would stand in long queues in front of ration shops under the hot sun or rain. He alleged that the beneficiaries faced discrimination and humiliation and were exploited.

Steps taken for smooth Fair Price shop services in Andhra Pradesh

VIJAYAWADA: With all the arrangements completed for the resumption of ration distribution through Fair Price Shops (FPS) across the State from June 1, the traditional public distribution model is set to make a comeback and end the reign of the Mobile Dispensing Units (MDUs). The Civil Supplies Department has conducted successful trial runs and service camps to ensure dealers and infrastructure are fully equipped. Civil Supplies Minister Nadendla Manohar, accompanied by Commissioner Saurabh Gaur, inspected the trial run and reviewed preparedness for the rollout. This strategic shift follows growing dissatisfaction with the MDU system due to irregular deliveries, technical glitches, and significant operational costs, nearly Rs 385 crore annually. Beneficiaries often faced difficulties locating MDU vehicles, resulting in missed rations and inconvenience, particularly in rural and low-connectivity areas. The reinstated FPS model is designed to be more accessible and accountable. Ration shops will now operate daily, including Sundays, from 8 am to 12 noon and 4 pm to 8 pm, with distribution scheduled between the 1st and 15th of each month. To enhance convenience and equity, the government has arranged for doorstep delivery of rations between June 1 and 5 to senior citizens above 65 years, persons with disabilities, and elderly couples. Beneficiaries who have relocated to other areas can avail themselves of rations from any FPS under the portability system.

GameSir's $30 Nova 2 Lite controller includes Hall effect sticks and triggers.

It's almost a bit boring when compared to the GameSir's $69.99 Tarantula Pro that can change the layout of its face button labels. But for $29.99, the Nova 2 Lite could be a solid alternative to 8BitDo's Ultimate 2C with Hall effect joysticks and triggers that can be locked to a shorter travel for FPS games. It also includes an extra pair of remappable back buttons and is compatible with the Switch, PCs, iOS, and Android.

Trump DHS issues warning after anti-ICE protesters attempt to disrupt arrest

The Department of Homeland Security is warning would-be disrupters to avoid interfering with federal immigration enforcement operations after it said a demonstrator attempted to disrupt a federal immigration arrest in New York City on Wednesday. Nearly two dozen anti-ICE protesters were also detained in another part of the city later that day. Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News Digital that ICE agents contacted Federal Protective Service (FPS) on Wednesday morning and "requested assistance as their officers were conducting arrests" in the lobby of a federal immigration court building. McLaughlin said FPS officers responded and saw several protesters filming and taking pictures of law enforcement personnel in the lobby. She said that at approximately 11:45 a.m. a person attempted to forcibly interfere with ICE agents attempting to place someone in custody. The person was briefly taken into custody, issued a U.S. district court violation notice and released, according to McLaughlin. As a result, the spokesperson said 23 individuals were taken into custody, 18 individuals were issued criminal court summons and five individuals were arrested and charged, according to the NYPD spokesperson. Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said in a statement this month that assaults against ICE officers rose by more than 400% from the same time last year. He placed part of the blame on politicians who "are careless with their politically motivated rhetoric."Original article source: Trump DHS issues warning after anti-ICE protesters attempt to disrupt arrest

Doom: The Dark Ages (2025) Game Review

This new instalment in the long-running FPS franchise has a medieval slant, but despite the 'Dark Ages' setting, it's still the game you know and presumably love. There are still hordes of demons to kill, with an increasingly powerful set of weapons, and the music score is as adrenaline-pumping as ever, to enhance your excitement as you blast monsters into oblivion. The game is a prequel to the last two entries in the series, with a dark, occasionally complicated narrative that leads into the events of the 2016 reboot. Of course, you don't come to a Doom game for a plotline. For the most part, it's very forgettable – a lot of mumbo jumbo about the DoomSlayer being humanity's last hope against the forces of Hell – and a lot of it has been echoed before in previous games in the series. The bolted-on narrative adds some meaning to the run-and-gun gameplay, but whenever a cutscene appears to explain away the plot, you'll probably be itching to hit the skip button, so as to get back into the thick of the very bloody action. And if it's action you want, it's action you'll get, as you battle the hordes of darkness like a medieval badass. Movement is more weighty this time around, so you're not quite as nimble as before (which isn't to say you're particularly slow), but you do have a handy shield that you can fling around the battleground and lay waste to multiple enemies before they swarm to your locale. You also have the ability to shield charge, so even though the Doomslayer is not quite as athletic as he used to be (there is no option to dash or double jump), you can still whiz across the landscape by targeting and jumping to an enemy with your shield. This makes moving around the battleground a lot faster, useful when you're feeling outnumbered, so your chances of survival are increased dramatically. Of course, it's mainly your weapons that do much to boost your survivability. Early on in the game, you're armed with a combat shotgun, the Shredder (the Doom-verse's equivalent of a machine gun), and the Power Gauntlet, a melee weapon that packs a mighty punch. Later on in the game, you're rewarded with more powerful weapons, such as the Accelerator, a pulverising plasma gun that can rip apart the enemies' shields, and the Ballistic Force Crossbow, a limited ammo weapon which is especially useful at taking down the game's bosses. You also get a couple of new melee weapons, including the Flail, a slow but powerful chain weapon that befits the medieval setting, as well as an upgrade to the shield – the Shield Saw – that sticks into and momentarily stuns the enemies, thus boosting your offensive potential. In short, the game lets you be the badass you always want to be in a Doom game as you use your beefed-up armoury to wipe out Hell's minions. Some of these monsters are easier to defeat than others – you should have little trouble ripping apart the slow-walking Zombies and weak-assed Imps. But more of a challenge are the Riders – annoying archers who take pot shots at you while riding giant reptiles – and the Titans, gargantuan beasts that can only be taken down with certain types of weaponry. There are 39 enemy types in total, some of which you'll have seen in other Doom games, and new additions to the franchise that match the medieval setting. So, it's pretty much business as usual for a Doom game then. However, there are a couple of new gameplay additions that will likely prove divisive. The first of these sees you ride on the back of a dragon at various points during the game. Movement via this winged beast is smooth and slick, so you'll have little trouble flying around the corrupted landscape. However, you're required to use this flying lizard to take down building turrets and shields, which can be a little fiddly due to the need to build up a meter by dodging gunfire (easier said than done) before you're allowed to destroy the hellscape's defences. The other new addition is a giant piece of mechanised armour that allows you to tower over the environment and smash your way through obstacles and the minions of Hell below. Unfortunately, this isn't as much fun as it sounds, and like the dragon riding, it proves as a needless distraction to the demon-pulverising at ground level. I can understand id Software's decision to modify the traditional Doom formula – some people will appreciate the variety in gameplay – but franchise purists might get annoyed by these diversions. Despite the occasional change to formula, Doom: The Dark Ages still hearkens back to the franchise's roots. You're still required to find keys to enter previously impassable areas (and find optional secrets) within the game's expansive map, and you're often confined to specific areas until you destroy the hellspawn that litters each battleground. Fans of the franchise will welcome the familiarity, though newcomers to the series might be frustrated at the game's old-school feel and lack of depth in the puzzle department. Doom: The Dark Ages is a fun game with super-smooth combat and a wide variety of graphically impressive environments from which to unleash all manner of glorious kills on the demonic enemies. New variations to the gameplay will please some while irking others, but for the most part, this is still a traditional Doom game at heart, which will be good news for long-time fans of this loud and bombastic series.
