Jade Thirlwall takes aim at JK Rowling in explosive outburst as fans join chant

Jade Thirlwall has made her views on Harry Potter author JK Rowling very clear as she led thousands of festival-goers in an explosive chant at Mighty Hoopla Jade Thirlwall took aim at Harry Potter author JK Rowling in an explosive outburst. The former Little Mix singer who has now ventured out as a solo artist under the name JADE made her presence known as she took to the stage at Mighty Hoopla festival on Saturday. The 32-year-old has always been a vocal ally of the LGBTQ+ community and often uses her platform to praise the community and raise awareness of causes around it. But as she took to the Mighty Hoopla stage on Saturday, Jade took aim at people whom she believes have voiced their opposition to the community. ‌ While performing her track F*** You For Now (FUFN), Jade encouraged the sold-out crowd of 30,000 to join in with her chant. Speaking to the fans, Jade said: "I want you to put your middle fingers up in the air and I'm going to name some things and some people and I want you to shout, 'F*** you' back to me." ‌ She went on to list people who she claims are homophobic, transphobic and misogynistic. Turning to the crowd she yelled: "J.K. Rowling..." as the fans screamed: "F*** you." Jade's comments were met with a mixed response on social media. One user said: "Nah Jade you're wrong for this." A second ask: "What did J.K. Rowling do?" Meanwhile, another penned: "What's J.K. Rowling done wrong to Jade? What have I missed?" ‌ But some leapt to defend Jade, with one writing: "Jade the icon you are." A second supporter of Jade went on to say: "We love Jade!! A true North East girlie." "She is the biggest ally and I love her so much," added another. J.K., whose real name is Joanne Rowling, has strongly denied being transphobic. The author, 59, first made comments about trans people six years ago and has since stood strong in her belief that they pose a threat to women in same sex spaces, such as toilets. ‌ Earlier this month, the author posted to her 14.3 million followers on X, formerly known as Twitter, that "nobody sane believes, or has ever believed that humans can change sex, or that binary sex isn't a material fact." Jade's comments come after she joined 400 UK artists and music industry workers signing an open letter pledging solidarity with the trans community. Following the UK Supreme Court's ruling, the trans community and allies have stormed social media to protest the exclusion of trans people from single sex spaces. ‌ Titled the 'Open Letter of solidarity to the trans community from the UK Music Industry,' the letter highlights the impact made on the trans, non-binary, and intersex communities following the Supreme Court ruling. Last week, Jade performed her first solo festival slot – and headlined the Future Sounds Stage at BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend in Liverpool's Sefton Park. A source at the event said: "Jade was blown away by how many people packed into the tent. She was a member of the biggest girl band from the UK after the Spice Girls and Girls Aloud, but as her first solo show, she told the crowd it was an 'insane crowd' and she couldn't believe it. "She thanked the crowd and herself, but not swearing. She told fans that Angel of My Dreams came after she was struggling".

Jade Thirlwall shows off her impeccable sense of style in oversized blazer and maxi shirt as she arrives at Joining Hands for Gaza gala dinner

Jade Thirlwall showed off her impeccable sense of style in an oversized blazer as she arrived at the Joining Hands for Gaza gala dinner in London on Thursday. The former Little Mix singer, 32, looked fashionable as she added a white shirt underneath and a black floor-length skirt, while making a statement by carrying a chic Prada handbag. The Angel Of My Dreams hitmaker looked radiant flashing a smile on her way to the charity event, rocking her natural brunette curly hair loose. Jade's sighting comes after the star announced the release of an acoustic version of her latest single FUFN (F**k U For Now). She took to Instagram on Friday to share the exciting news, posting a series of behind-the-scenes shots from the new music video. In one snap, she turned up the heat in a blue corset paired with sheer flared pants that showed off her incredible figure. Jade also gave fans a glimpse into her creative process, sharing clips of herself recording the track in her home studio. The singer captioned the post: 'FUFN (Acoustic Version) is out now with its own visualiser thanks to @sarahdatttani and her fabulous team. Really loved rearranging this with @starsmith. 'We tried different ways of reimagining the original and realised there's so much to say in this song, it just needed a little Jolene-ing Wrote a longer bridge for this version too to amp up the drama. Hope you love as much as I do x' Jade recently confessed she 'sold her soul' for fame as she slammed Simon Cowell and compared her self to a marvel superhero after Little Mix success. The singer shot to fame in 2011 when she appeared on The X Factor and was placed into girl group Little Mix alongside Jesy Nelson, Perrie Edwards and Leigh-Anne Pinnock. Under Simon's guise, the group won the coveted singing competition and went on to release huge hits, such as Wings, Black Magic and Shout Out To My Ex, across a decade span. However, Jade said that she felt she 'sold her soul' after signing up to join industry at a young age. Speaking on an episode of ITV1's The Assembly - in which all questions are asked by neurodivergent individuals - she was asked whether she felt as if she had 'sold her soul'. It comes after the star announced the release of an acoustic version of her latest single FUFN (F**k U For Now) posting a series of behind-the-scenes shots from the new music video She replied: 'You've trumped me. Maybe a little bit in the beginning. I was so young and I just signed on the dotted line. 'But as the years have gone by I've learned more and more about the industry. 'I've been collecting — a bit like [Marvel superhero] Thanos with the stones — I've been collecting parts of my soul back as I've gained more creative freedom.' She added: 'I think it's the end of that kind of TV show or music label. I think it's the end of that era. But I don't know if Simon Cowell specifically has ended.' It was suggested previously that the lyric 'sold my soul to a psycho' from her 'Angel of my Dreams' track was a dig at Simon but Jade later clarified in an interview that that was not necessarily the case. She told Beat magazine: 'It's not specifically about that. But I wanted the song to be my journey, from entering the music business to now, and what that's felt like. That's why the song feels so chaotic. 'The opening is like the music to that montage bit on 'The X Factor' after you've won, and you're just catapulted into the industry.' She added: 'I don't want to sit here and bash the last 13 years of my life. I'm very happy and content. But like with any job, there are highs and lows. 'That's just life, and it's my reality, but it's about writing it in a way that's not woe is me.' She launched her solo career last summer with her debut single, Angel of My Dreams, reaching the top 10 in the UK and recently won Best Pop Act at this year's BRIT Awards. Jade is now currently working on her first solo album since Little Mix announced a hiatus in 2022.
