Umno Youth chief to face court charge this Friday over Facebook post allegedly disturbing public order

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 — The Attorney General's Chambers (AGC) said yesterday that it would charge Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh over a Facebook post on his account, along with two other individuals. In a statement, the AGC said the decision followed an examination of investigation papers submitted by the police. 'Based on the testimony and evidence obtained, this department has decided to bring charges under Section 505(b) of the Penal Code against Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh, Muhammad Hilman Idham and Siti Hajar Aflah Sharuddin,' it said. 'The statements made by these individuals were found to have disturbed public order or constituted improper use of network facilities or network services.' The AGC said all charges will be filed at the Magistrates' Court with the relevant local jurisdiction soon. It added that the statements in question were found to have disturbed public order or constituted improper use of network facilities or services. Section 505(b) handles those causing fear or alarm to the public, and to induce them to commit an offence against public order. If convicted, a person can be punished with a prison term up to two years, a fine, or both. Hilman is the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia Youth chief, with his charge is believed to be over a video of him speaking at a July 29 protest in which he allegedly claimed the arrest of some Bersatu members was politically motivated. It is unsure which Facebook post is responsible for Dr Akmal's charge. Meanwhile, Chandrasegaran a/l Subramaniam will be charged under Section 233(1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1988. Last week, Dr Akmal said he was called by the federal police to give his statement over the protest he led on the display of Jalur Gemilang in Kepala Batas, Penang. The AGC had previously warned Malaysians against vigilantism in cases involving the improper display of the Jalur Gemilang, amid furore over the Umno Youth protest. Dr Akmal has since posted on Facebook that he is abroad performing umrah, or the Muslim minor pilgrimage to Mecca, and will return early to face the charge at the Magistrate's Court in Bukit Mertajam this Friday.

Lancashire County Council mixes up village street sign mileages

A council has apologised after getting their distances wrong on a street than stating that Downham and Rimington were respectively one and three miles away from Chatburn, a newly installed sign in the Lancashire village mixed up the some people living in the village, near Clitheroe, have seen the funny side, others have been decidedly unimpressed, with one man saying it was "crackers" and a "waste".Lancashire County Council said it was "aware of an error" and stressed it would be corrected. Resident Eddie Gilchrist posted on Facebook: "Oh dear, LCC installed a shiny new sign in Chatburn yesterday. Unfortunately, they have moved both Rimington and Downham."In 2022, the authority was left red-faced when it misspelled a new bus stop sign outside Lancaster Royal Grammar School as "grammer", much to the amusement of the headteacher and students.A county council spokesman said: "We're aware of an error on a new road sign in Bridge Road, Chatburn and have arranged for it to be corrected. "We appreciate residents bringing it to our attention." A Furious MAGA Voter's Post Breaking Down The "Ridiculous" Cost Of Their Diabetes Medicine Due To Donald Trump's Tariffs Is Going Viral

A Facebook post written by a self-proclaimed MAGA voter who says she and her partner can no longer afford their imported medications due to Donald Trump's tariffs is going viral. At the start of the post, the MAGA voter expressed her anger with President Trump and his ongoing tariff war that has increased the prices of imported goods in the US. She said, "He should take his tariffs and shove them up his ass!" She then broke down the cost of her and her partner's medications in the US, which amounts to over $500 for each of them with Medicare. She said they'd been buying their medications from Canada or the UK to save money.... But that changed when the Canadian company purportedly increased its prices by $80-100 per month to offset Trump's tariffs. "I voted for Trump, I truly wish I had not making America Great Again, but he sure is making it more expensive," she wrote. In response to the posts, people had a range of opinions, with some defending President Trump... "You can't blame the president for the high drug pricing," one person commented on the original post. "It is not Trumps fault you cannot figure this out," another wrote. While others blamed the original poster for her voting decisions... "If you cannot afford your medications, why would you vote for any Republican ever??? The Democratic platform has been lowered costs for healthcare FOR DECADES," one user questioned. "I wish I had more sympathy. That went away in Nov. They are getting exactly what they voted told them this time was different," another person wrote. What are your thoughts?
