WWE star Randy Orton reveals mental health battle: ‘Got to a dark place'
Randy Orton has opened up about the serious mental health problems he suffered while battling injury a few years ago. 'I didn't see us talking about this stuff, but I started kind of getting in my head,' the WWE superstar said on the 'What's Your Story?' podcast with Stephanie McMahon. 'And this is after I met [my wife]. And I have three stepsons, and I have two daughters, and I kind of got overwhelmed… I didn't really want to get into this, but I don't even give a f–k, like what the hell. We're all human.' Orton, 45, said he suffered panic attacks and took antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication around the time of his spinal fusion surgery in 2022, which was potentially career-ending. Getty Images The panic attacks, Orton said, made it hard to fly and difficult to fall asleep — he found himself staying up at night and walking around his yard at night, taking deep breaths. 'I was out for, like, a year and a half and it was like, here's my identity. This is who I am,' Orton said. 'This is like the one thing I know that I'm good at, and I get respect for, and I can't do it anymore. And for like six months, I was under the impression that was it.' It was during that period when Orton said things got especially difficult mentally. 'When I was young, I felt so mentally strong and mentally tough and nothing could shake me. And like, I got to a dark place and I started to revert back to some of my old habits,' Orton said. 'Luckily I was able to kind of nip it in the bud quick.' Advertisement With guidance from his wife, Kim, Orton began taking antidepressants, which he said he 'didn't like,' but kept taking because he felt he needed to in order to stop the panic attacks. Orton said he has been off the medication for six months, and he also hasn't suffered from panic attacks in six months. 3 Randy Orton after defeating Joe Hendry at WrestleMania41 on April 20. 'FIRE DEF REBEL!': 4 WWE entrance themes that fans agree missed the mark
Image via WWE WWE fans made their voices heard loud and clear on this week's episode of NXT, chanting 'Fire Def Rebel' after Jordynne Grace walked out to a newly composed entrance theme. While Grace went on to win her match and qualify for the #1 Contender's Fatal Four-Way, the reaction to her entrance music sparked fresh outrage online - with many fans slamming WWE's long-time music group, Def Rebel, for what they call a growing list of 'misses. ' Here are four WWE entrance themes that fans believe failed to deliver the hype: 1. Jordynne Grace - NXT (2025) — FadeAwayMedia (@FadeAwayMedia) The most recent example came on June 17 during NXT, when Jordynne Grace debuted a new entrance track ahead of her match against Lola Vice. While Grace's performance inside the ring was praised, her new theme left fans confused - and, frankly, irritated. The chants of 'Fire Def Rebel!' echoed through the Performance Center, with social media echoing the sentiment. Many pointed out the disconnect between the high-impact persona of 'Big Momma Pump' and the low-energy, generic track she was assigned. 2. Keith Lee - RAW (2020) When Keith Lee moved up to the main roster in 2020, fans were thrilled - until they heard his new music. Gone was the bombastic, self-rapped anthem that helped define his NXT run. Replaced with a softer, heavily-produced track by Def Rebel, the change drew heavy backlash. WWE eventually tweaked the theme, but many still feel it never recovered the original magic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? Instead, fans were greeted with a bland, generic rock track that failed to reflect her energy. The mismatch between character and theme quickly made her music one of the most skipped tracks on WWE's official Spotify list. 4. Shayna Baszler - RAW (2021) Shayna Baszler once had a theme that perfectly matched her intimidating persona. But after Def Rebel reworked her entrance in 2021, fans noticed a glaring drop in impact. The slow-paced, drum-heavy remix stripped away the raw energy that had made her walkouts must-watch moments. While WWE often evolves its soundscape, the reaction to these misfires shows fans aren't afraid to speak out. Whether it leads to changes remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: the music matters just as much as the mayhem. Ric Flair's social media misstep draws fury from wrestling community
Image via WWE Wrestling icon Ric Flair is facing intense backlash after a series of controversial tweets, including a dig at fellow Hall of Famer Jim Ross, who recently underwent surgery for colon cancer, and a now-deleted post parodying sexual consent. Wrestling legend sparks fury with dig at Jim Ross Flair, 76, shocked fans over the weekend by suggesting that Jim Ross was "seeking attention" following his recent cancer surgery. The post was quickly deleted but not before screenshots went viral, sparking widespread condemnation from fans and wrestling personalities alike. — FadeAwayMedia (@FadeAwayMedia) Ross, who updated followers earlier in the week about his recovery, received overwhelming support from the wrestling community - except from Flair. The two have had a tense relationship in recent years, particularly after Ross appeared in the "Plane Ride from Hell" episode of Dark Side of the Ring, which revived past misconduct allegations involving Flair. Flair later said Ross had "lost all credibility" with him, despite their long-standing friendship in the industry. Controversial post drags up Ric Flair's troubled past Just hours after the Ross tweet, Flair posted what he called The Woooo Compromise - a mock consent form referencing 'Space Mountain,' a long-standing euphemism he uses in reference to his romantic escapades. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Paco: Scholarships You Can Apply For (Start Now) College Scholarship | Google Search Search Now Undo The post was also deleted shortly after going live. The joke, which touched on themes of consent and sexual relations, was widely criticized for being inappropriate and insensitive, especially in light of Flair's past controversies. Fans viewed the post as distasteful and out of touch. In response to the uproar, Flair shared a follow-up post that remains on his profile: 'If You Can't Take A Joke From A 76 Year Old Man, Then You Are Living Life Too Seriously. It Was All Harmless, Lighthearted Fun! Just Trying To Make People Laugh & Smile!' However, fans were not convinced. Replies poured in, with many accusing Flair of minimizing serious issues. 'Grow up and take some responsibility for something' one user wrote, while another questioned why a 'legend' would risk his reputation with such remarks. Flair, a 16-time world champion and one of the most recognizable names in wrestling, has not issued a formal apology. For many fans, the incident reopens uncomfortable conversations about accountability, generational divides, and whether some stars have overstayed their welcome in the digital age. Whether the Nature Boy clarifies further or remains silent, the fallout from this episode appears far from over.
