'The drainage system must be carefully managed at all times. 'We also want to ensure that there are no rats in this area. 'PPj will work closely with the management bodies of commercial centres to implement ongoing measures to keep the area clean.' In his speech, Fadlun underscored the need to maintain Putrajaya's clean and well-kept image, while ensuring residents and visitors' welfare. He said the campaign also emphasised volunteerism, community engagement and unity among residents. Some of the young volunteers at event. Borneo Flora Festival: Countdown begins as preparations shift into high gear

The Labuan Corporation, Putrajaya Corporation, Department of Federal Territories, and Kuala Lumpur City Hall are working closely to finalise preparations for the five-day festival, which will be graced by Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, on July 26 at the Labuan International Sea Complex. Labuan Corporation chief executive officer Mohd Sukuran Taib said the event will feature more than 29 themed gardens, each highlighting exotic and endangered plant species, mini landscapes, as well as a variety of soft and hard landscape installations. 'The festival aims to showcase Borneo's rich biodiversity while promoting tourism, stimulating economic activity, and raising environmental awareness on the island,' he told Bernama Wednesday. Putrajaya Corporation president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud, who visited the site on Wednesday to review progress, said the collaboration between the four agencies is crucial, with just over two weeks remaining to complete all landscaping and design works at the venue. 'This is a race against time, but we are confident of delivering an event of international standards. Aggressive promotional efforts are ongoing, not just throughout Malaysia but also in Kalimantan and Brunei, targeting regional visitors who share the Borneo heritage,' he said. He added that accommodation options in Labuan, including hotels, serviced apartments, and homestays, remain readily available. 'We also expect a number of visitors to make day trips, especially with the Labuan-Kota Kinabalu-Labuan ferry services now operating daily and extended into the night,' he said. Fadlun expressed optimism the Borneo Flora Festival could replicate the success of the Royal Floria Putrajaya, and establish itself as a signature annual event for Labuan. 'The Sabah government has extended its full support, particularly in facilitating the movement of rare and endangered plants into and out of Labuan for the festival. 'Beyond floral exhibitions, the festival will also showcase the culinary, cultural and artisanal richness of Borneo, offering visitors a multi-sensory experience,' he said. Fadlun said the Borneo Flora Festival is one of Labuan Corporation's key tourism initiatives under the Federal Territories' broader effort to revitalise Labuan's economy and brand it as a premier eco-tourism and cultural destination in the region. – Bernama

Kota MADANI development in Precinct 19 can overcome shortage of govt quarters

PUTRAJAYA: Calls to increase the number of government quarters in Putrajaya over the past 25 years are set to be finally answered through the development of Kota MADANI in Precinct 19 here, said Putrajaya Corporation (PPj) president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud. Speaking to Bernama and RTM here today, he said government quarters are still in high demand, particularly from support groups who have been renting houses quite far from their workplaces. 'Under the original master plan in 1998, we did plan for these residences. Based on the demand for quarters that we have received so far, we now have 17,000 applicants from various categories. 'As far as I can recall, requests to build more quarters have been made since 2000. Finally, this year, we can implement the development of these quarters,' he said. Spanning 41.28 hectares, Kota MADANI is set to feature 10,000 high-density vertical residential units capable of accommodating over 3,000 residents. Its design will integrate artificial intelligence technology, efficient digital infrastructure and a green mobility system. Commenting on the assumptions of certain parties that the project used public funds, Fadlun stressed that the project is being developed through a public-private collaboration by Putrajaya Holdings using the Build-Lease-Maintain-Transfer (BLMT) concept. '... and this can reduce the actual costs because the government does not come out with any funding, and it is all borne by the developers. The only thing is that the repayment period will be determined by the Public Private Partnership Unit (UKAS),' he said. The development of Kota MADANI in Precinct 19 will be implemented in stages, with the first phase set to commence in the third quarter of this year, and the development is estimated to cost RM4 billion. The development of Kota MADANI is a long-term strategic investment to shape Putrajaya's future as a model city that upholds MADANI values and aligns with the vision of Bandar CHASE - a clean, healthy, advanced, safe and eco-friendly city.

Putrajaya Holdings to open tenders for RM4bil Kota Madani project in Q3

PUTRAJAYA: Putrajaya Holdings Sdn Bhd is set to launch the tender process for the RM4 billion Kota Madani urban development in Precinct 19, Putrajaya in the third quarter of this year. Putrajaya Corporation president Datuk Fadlun Mak Ujud told Business Times that the 41.28-hectare development will be carried out under a build, lease, maintain and transfer (BLMT) model, framing it as a long-term, asset-backed initiative aligned with national urban development goals. He said the project's estimated development cost stands at RM4 billion, although the final figure will be confirmed once implementation begins. "This is a government housing project. We're not selling the units, but leasing options may be considered if there is demand," Fadlun added. He said Kota Madani goes far beyond traditional residential development, describing it as a high-impact, strategic initiative designed to reinforce Putrajaya's position as a world-class, people-centric city under the government's Madani framework. Fadlun said Putrajaya Holdings was appointed as the master developer of Kota Madani based on its extensive experience and proven track record in developing Putrajaya, Malaysia's largest and most ambitious urban project to date, which now encompasses over 22,000 residential units. He said a transparent open bidding process will be launched in the coming months, inviting qualified contractors and service providers to participate. Contract awards will be merit-based, with a strong emphasis on technical capability, integration of sustainable solutions, and alignment with the township's smart city and community-focused vision. The ground breaking of Kota Madani is scheduled for this Thursday, officially kicking off a transformative urban initiative aimed at elevating the standard of living in Malaysia's administrative capital. Kota Madani will offer 10,000 high-density vertical housing units built in three phases, accommodating up to 35,000 residents upon full completion. It will also feature artificial intelligence-driven systems, advanced digital infrastructure, and a suite of green mobility options to support a low-carbon lifestyle. The project's first phase (1A and 1B), which comprises 3,000 high-density residential units and an eight-storey school, is targeted for completion by the end of 2027. Kota Madani is designed to serve as a model township under the government's Madani framework, integrating smart technologies, green infrastructure, energy-efficient systems, and essential public services into a cohesive urban ecosystem. Key components of the township will include government quarters, healthcare facilities, schools, financial institutions, and green mobility solutions, all within walkable, self-contained residential precincts, according to Malaysian Institute of Planners president Datin Mazrina Abdul Khalid. The township will be anchored by the CHASE vision (clean, healthy, advanced, safe and eco-friendly), a policy framework designed to transform Malaysia's federal territories into liveable, sustainable cities. This vision emphasises environmentally responsible practices, digital integration, and inclusive infrastructure as foundations for improved urban quality of life. Mazrina said the township's masterplan draws inspiration from Malaysia's architectural heritage, merging cultural identity with modern urban design to create a distinctive living environment. "Kota Madani goes beyond conventional housing. It is a forward-looking model for smart, sustainable, and inclusive development," she said. Mazrina said complementing residential areas, critical amenities such as a health clinic, fire station, police station and mosque will be located nearby, reinforcing the township's focus on accessibility, safety and holistic well-being. She noted that the project will feature green elements, including energy-efficient initiatives, which form the core foundation of the Kota Madani development. With its strong policy alignment, future-ready design, and strategic execution model, Kota Madani is poised to become a benchmark for urban development not only in Putrajaya but across Malaysia.
