Fado Festival in Rabat to celebrate Carlos Paredes with concerts and screenings

DR Estimated read time: 2' The Fado Festival, a traveling celebration of Portuguese culture through its most iconic musical genre, is set to return to Rabat on September 18 and 19 for its eighth Moroccan edition. Held annually across 18 major cities in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and Asia, this cultural tour marks its 15th global edition this year. In Rabat, the festival will pay tribute to Carlos Paredes (1925–2004), a towering figure in the world of the Portuguese guitar, renowned for his virtuosity and for elevating the instrument to a solo art form. The Mohammed V National Theatre will host two evenings of concerts, talks, and a film screening, offering audiences an in-depth look at the extraordinary legacy of this legendary musician. On Thursday, September 18, the program opens at 6:30 PM with a conference titled The Importance of Paredes in the Development of Modern Portuguese Guitar, led by acclaimed guitarist and educator Paulo Soares. Soares will explore the artistic and technical innovations introduced by Paredes, whose modern approach to the Portuguese guitar inspired generations of musicians. Later that evening, at 8:00 PM, a tribute concert will bring together Luís Guerreiro, Paulo Soares, and vocalist Beatriz Villar, who released her debut EP Viragem in 2023. Guerreiro, considered one of the foremost interpreters of the Portuguese guitar today, will join Soares in revisiting some of Paredes' most iconic compositions, celebrating the timeless influence of his work. On Friday, September 19, the festival continues with a 6:30 PM screening of Movimentos Perpétuos by Edgar Pêra, a documentary tribute to Carlos Paredes featuring archival footage and testimonies from fellow musicians reflecting on his deep imprint on Portuguese music. The closing concert at 8:00 PM will feature Filipa Vieira, a Lisbon native immersed in Fado from a young age. Winner of the Young Talent Fado Award in 2018, Vieira represents the new generation of Fado artists with her soulful and expressive voice. With this program, the Fado Festival Morocco offers music lovers an immersive journey into the heart of Fado and the Portuguese guitar, shining a spotlight on one of its most influential and beloved ambassadors. Tickets are available online and at the Mohammed V National Theatre box office.

Experience adventure in Lisbon and Porto with flights, train and tour

This thoughtfully-designed package splits your time between Portugal's dynamic capital and its cultural heart, offering the perfect introduction to the country's diverse character. The journey begins in Lisbon, where ancient trams climb cobblestone hills past pastel-coloured facades, and concludes in Porto, where centuries-old port wine cellars line the dramatic Douro River valley. The beauty of this approach lies in experiencing Portugal's contrasts: Lisbon's cosmopolitan energy and Porto's intimate, almost village-like atmosphere. Each city offers distinct personalities, architectural styles and culinary traditions, ensuring every day brings fresh discoveries. Your Lisbon base, the Neya Lisbon Hotel, serves as the perfect launching pad for exploring the capital's seven hills. The city's unique character emerges through its neighbourhoods, each with distinct personalities waiting to be explored. From your hotel, you'll find yourself within easy reach of Lisbon's most iconic attractions. The historic Alfama district beckons with its maze of narrow streets and traditional Fado houses, where Portugal's soulful national music echoes through ancient walls. Here, the past feels tangible as you wander through neighbourhoods that have remained largely unchanged for centuries. The famous trams, right, provide a scenic journey through the city's heart, offering glimpses of architectural treasures from the comfort of a vintage yellow carriage. Lisbon's culinary scene has evolved into one of Europe's most exciting, blending traditional Portuguese flavors with international influences. From the bustling Mercado da Ribeira food market to intimate tasca taverns, the city offers endless opportunities to savor authentic Portuguese cuisine. Don't miss trying pastéis de nata, the country's beloved custard tarts, best enjoyed at the legendary Pastéis de Belém bakery. One of the package's highlights is the comfortable train journey from Lisbon to Porto, transforming travel time into a sightseeing opportunity. The high-speed train typically takes just two hours and 35 minutes, whisking you through Portugal's diverse landscapes while you relax in modern, well-equipped carriages. This rail journey offers more than mere transportation—it's a window into Portugal's rural heart. Rolling hills dotted with cork oaks give way to river valleys and traditional villages, providing a peaceful transition between the two cities. The train's efficiency and comfort exemplify Portugal's commitment to sustainable tourism, allowing you to minimise your environmental impact while maximising your cultural immersion. Your Porto accommodation Porto Cristal Hotel places you at the heart of this UNESCO World Heritage city, where medieval streets tumble down to the Douro River's banks. As part of their package, travellers will also enjoy the spectacular Six Bridges River Cruise. Porto's compact size makes it perfect for exploration on foot too, with each turn revealing architectural gems, traditional azulejo tile work, or panoramic river views. The city's crown jewel, the Ribeira district, comes alive in the evening when locals and visitors gather along the waterfront. Here, traditional restaurants serve hearty northern Portuguese cuisine alongside the famous port wine that bears the city's name. The iconic Dom Luís I Bridge, designed by a disciple of Gustave Eiffel, provides spectacular views and connects Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia, home to the legendary port wine cellars. The package's comprehensive nature eliminates travel stress while maximising cultural immersion. From flamenco to igloos: How India Inc is turning work trips into bucket list adventure

Skiing in Azerbaijan , aerial tours of Mount Everest, outdoor barbeques and winery visits in Australia, master classes with local chefs in Japan, Flamenco and Fado dance classes in Spain and Portugal, and Oktoberfest in Germany — India Inc is sparing no expense in embracing unrestrained indulgence for employees. #Pahalgam Terrorist Attack India stares at a 'water bomb' threat as it freezes Indus Treaty India readies short, mid & long-term Indus River plans Shehbaz Sharif calls India's stand "worn-out narrative" Thomas Cook (India), Cleartrip, and SOTC Travel are among travel companies witnessing a sharp uptick in the MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) segment, as companies dial up travel plans for staff to not just drive team bonding and strategy building but also reward and retain talent. Budgets are generous, with curated MICE journeys reaching more than ₹5 lakh per person at the top end, said executives. The BFSI, automobile, pharmaceutical, and technology sectors are leading the trend. 'We are seeing a robust 15-20% surge in demand for corporate offsites and reward & recognition (R&R) travel, signalling a clear shift in how corporate India is approaching talent engagement and retention,' said Vishal Suri, MD at SOTC Travel. Unique Destinations on Radar What stands out, he says, is the evolving nature of these programmes — they are no longer just about travel. Live Events 'Companies are prioritising team bonding, leadership development, and experiential learning by curating distinctive and immersive experiences, such as CXO-level meetings in Cape Town with helicopter tours, African-themed dinner and Djembe drumming sessions etc. Unique destinations like Brazil are also emerging on the radar for MICE groups,' he added. Despite geopolitical challenges and tariff clouds under the Trump administration hanging over their heads, companies aren't pulling back on their plans, said experts. While Sri Lanka, Goa, Coorg, Pondicherry, and Kerala continue to be popular choices, organisations are also exploring more unique destinations like Armenia and Azerbaijan. Thomas Cook (India) is seeing increased interest in unique/emerging and value destinations such as Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Vietnam. Marquee destinations like South Africa, Kenya, Zambia, Australia, New Zealand, US, Finland, and Norway also continue to be in high demand. In the past year, the company curated an R&R luxury Arctic escape to Finland, including luxury igloo stays, midnight aurora safaris, reindeer rides, snowmobiling, etc. — costing ₹6-7 lakh per person; a 250-people MICE group in Sri Lanka for an exclusive gala dinner at the Lotus Tower — revolving restaurant; a full-day outdoor adventure at Glenworth Valley in Australia featuring axe-throwing competitions, ATV rides, and the famous 'Running of the Horses' with over 200 horses galloping through the valley. Offsite Bonding, Brainstorming As high-end experiences see a spike, keeping pace are company offsites. At Panasonic , multiple offsites have already been organised this year. The India Innovation Centre team went to Chikmagalur; the automotive team went to Goa; the customer service division to Mussoorie; and the system solutions division to Rishikesh, among others. 'Our regular offsites include team bonding initiatives, annual business planning workshops, among other initiatives,' said Adarsh Mishra, CHRO at Panasonic Life Solutions India. Proptech unicorn NoBroker is planning an offsite this year to Coorg, for its 80-strong business team, said Amit Agarwal, co-founder of the Bengaluru-based company. Legrand India recently organised an offsite in Chennai for its supply chain management team.
