KUWAIT: Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) and the Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) officials sign a cooperation agreement on Sunday. – KUNA photos KUWAIT: The Public Authority for Applied Education and Training (PAAET) and the Kuwait Ports Authority (KPA) signed a cooperation agreement on Sunday aimed at testing and developing the skills of national cadres to prepare them for the labor market. In a statement, PAAET said the agreement was signed by Acting Director General Mishaal Al-Mansouri and Acting Assistant Director General for Maritime Operations and Shuaiba Port Fahad Al-Bous on behalf of KPA. The agreement will be implemented in English and specialized fields to support the readiness of trainees to join the workforce. The statement noted that the cooperation framework focuses on enhancing national competencies and developing capabilities in engineering, management and technology. Both sides also discussed mechanisms for implementation and ways to improve efficiency among Kuwaiti cadres, contributing to institutional development and supporting the country's progress. Internal scholarships Separately, the General Secretariat of the Private Universities Council (PUC) announced Monday the opening of applications for the internal scholarships program for diploma holders for the first semester of the 2025/2026 academic year. In a press statement, the PUC said applications will be accepted online through its website from Wednesday, August 20, until Tuesday, August 27 at noon. The minimum cumulative GPA required is 3.0 on a four-point scale, with a reduced requirement of 2.70 for applicants with disabilities. — KUNA

Kuwait basketball team heads to Istanbul for the Arab Championship preparations

KUWAIT CITY, July 7: The Kuwait national basketball team departs for Istanbul this evening to begin a training camp that will run until July 24, in preparation for the upcoming Arab Men's Basketball Championship, scheduled to take place in Tunisia from July 25 to August 2. The training camp is part of Kuwait's broader preparation plan, as the team eyes both regional success and readiness for the upcoming Asian qualifiers. The team delegation is led by Owaid Al-Enezi, Assistant Secretary of the Kuwait Basketball Federation, and includes: Administrators: Fahad Al-Bous, Mohammed Al-Hasawi Team Manager: Khaled Bou Zabar Head Coach: Serbian tactician Oliver Kosic Assistant Coach: Khaled Al-Qallaf Fitness Coach: Bashir Farih The squad features 14 players: Ahmed Al-Balushi, Rashed Al-Rabah, Mohammed Ashkanani, Mohammed Adnan, Abdulrahman Al-Shammari, Adel Al-Saeed, Talal Al-Obaidi, Abdulaziz Al-Hamidi, Suho Al-Shammari, Ahmed Al-Foudari, Hussein Ashkanani, Adam Asad Allah, Faisal Al-Bahr, and Faisal Al-Husseini. As part of its camp, Kuwait will play five friendly matches, including one against the Saudi national team, which is also holding its camp in Istanbul. The team's training sessions began last week in Kuwait, under the leadership of Coach Kosic, to improve team chemistry and performance ahead of the regional tournament. Speaking ahead of the team's departure, Owaid Al-Enezi emphasized the importance of the Arab Championship as part of the team's preparation during the international break. He noted that these competitions and friendlies are vital in building momentum ahead of the Asian Cup qualifiers. Al-Enezi added that the current roster includes several young talents, and the coaching staff is focused on integrating them alongside seasoned veterans. This blend of youth and experience is part of a long-term vision to strengthen the national team in future competitions.
