Rose buddies and buds getting ready for festival fun in Kerry

But so too are the young generations as the chosen Rose buddies and buds are too getting ready to play their part in the wonderful festival. For the first time, little boys aged between six and ten will join the Roses, Rose Escorts, and Rose Buds throughout the festival, taking part in parades, attending the exclusive Rose Buds and Rose Buddies party, and even helping to open the live TV shows on RTÉ One on Monday, August 18. Executive Chairman of the Rose of Tralee International Festival, Anthony O'Gara, who was on hand to welcome this year Rose Buddies and Buds said being part of the festival is a magic moment for the children. Anthony and his wife Oonagh attended a special event on Friday night to officially welcome the children at Fairtree village. 'The Rose Buds – and now our new Rose Buddies – are such an important part of the Festival spirit. They bring joy, energy and a true sense of community to the celebrations. We're delighted to have Fairtree Village on board to help create these magical moments for the children and their families this year,' said Anthony O'Gara The evening was hosted by Festival Director Suzan O'Gara, joined onstage by Kerry Rose Laura Daly and Rose Escort Mark Riordan, representing this year's Roses and Escorts. Together, they introduced each pairing to a crowd of over 250 proud parents and families, as every Rose Bud and Rose Buddy received their sash or badge and a photograph with the guests of honour. Fairtree Village's Facilities Manager Dan Roche extended a warm welcome to all in attendance. 'We're thrilled that Fairtree Village is the official sponsor of the 2025 Rose Buds & Rose Buddies,' said Facilities Manager Dan Roche. 'It's an honour to host such a heart-warming celebration of community, friendship, and young talent. We can't wait to share more exciting moments as the journey continues,' Dan Roche said. The Rose Buds & Rose Buddies programme is one of the most cherished traditions of the festival, now made even more special with the addition of the young lads joining in the celebrations for the first time. The Rose of Tralee International Festival takes place in Tralee from August 15-19.
