FIC: Minister displeased with state of affairs

LAHORE: Steps are under way to implement the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif for a healthy Punjab, Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, said. During his visit to the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology, Salman expressed his displeasure over the mismanagement of the queue management system and non-availability of medicines at FIC. He also visited the pathology lab and echography ward and inquired about the details of diagnostic tests and reporting time. Khawaja Salman Rafique also expressed his displeasure over the mistreatment of patients by the security staff and the poor hygiene conditions. The Minister and the Provincial Health Secretary inquired about the facilities available to patients individually in the emergency and OPD pharmacies and the provision of medicines. He directed authorities to create a regular mechanism for the availability of medicines other than heart disease for the patients under treatment. He inspected the packaging process and records of the supply of medicines to homes. Khawaja Salman said that Rs 33 billion were provided for the provision of medicines in the last fiscal year. 'Implementation of the SOPs of service delivery set by the Chief Minister of Punjab should be ensured. Strict action will be taken on complaints about ordering medicines from outside the hospital,' he added. The Minister said all medicines related to heart diseases should be available in the hospital, adding there is a zero tolerance policy for negligence in service delivery to patients. Provincial Health Secretary Azmat Mahmood Khan said that Rs 23 billion funds were provided to hospitals to pay the dues of previous years. 'As per the instructions of the Chief Minister, strict action will be taken on the non-availability of medicines to patients,' he said. New emergency block planned for FIC

FAISALABAD: Under the health-friendly policy of Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Divisional administration is consistently striving to provide the best facilities to heart patients. In this regard, a new emergency block comprising 150 beds is planned at the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC) with the cooperation of donors. In the first phase, 50 beds will be added to the new emergency block, which will be equipped with all essential facilities including a Radiology Department and Primary Angiography. The number of screening and ECG rooms will also be increased. Commissioner Maryam Khan visited the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology and was briefed on the steps for the construction of the emergency block. She also inspected the proposed site. Punjab sets new milestone with over 3,000 children's heart surgeries in six months

Listen to article Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz's first comprehensive Children's Heart Surgery Programme is in full swing, providing life-saving treatment to young patients, including those from other provinces, Express News reported. Under the Chief Minister's Children's Heart Surgery Programme, 3,162 successful heart surgeries and interventions have been performed so far. Additionally, 7,436 children from across the country have been registered for treatment. To enhance the programme, foreign paediatric heart surgeons will visit Punjab regularly. A British medical team has already conducted surgeries at Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology. The initiative is extending free heart surgeries to children from Sindh, Balochistan, Azad Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa. In Punjab's public and private hospitals, the treatment of 316 children from K-P has been arranged; 51 children from Sindh have been registered for surgery; 11 children from Balochistan will undergo free procedures; 158 children from Azad Kashmir are also registered; 30 children from Gilgit-Baltistan will receive surgery. So far, 2,419 surgeries have been performed in public hospitals and 743 in private hospitals under the initiative. The Punjab government is covering all expenses for surgeries and treatment. Before the launch of this programme, hundreds of children lost their lives every year due to limited resources and long waiting lists, leaving families helpless. Maryam emphasised her commitment to children's health, stating: "I cannot bear to see young children in pain. The government will cover all surgery costs. Children have the first right over the state's resources, and every child will be treated as our own."

Seven children undergo cardiac surgery at FIC

Seven children with congenital heart conditions underwent cardiac surgeries at Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology (FIC), performed by a team of British doctors visiting Pakistan. Provincial Minister for Health Khawaja Salman Rafique visited FIC and met with the British medical delegation, which included Dr Sandeep, Dr Omar Aziz and Dr Imran Saeed. The minister expressed gratitude to the foreign medical team for their efforts in saving young lives. He also met with the children who underwent surgery and assured their families of the government's commitment to providing top-quality healthcare. During his visit, Khawaja Salman Rafique announced that the government aims to double the number of paediatric cardiac surgeries for children with hole-in-heart disease from 3,000 to 6,000 annually. He added that the number of cardiac specialists at FIC has already increased and will continue to grow to meet demand. The British medical delegation, visiting through Dr Faisal Alamgir, has pledged continued support, with plans to return every three months to perform surgeries and train local doctors. Speaking to the media, the minister highlighted the government's ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare facilities. He noted that 150 successful bone marrow transplants had been performed at Lahore's Children's Hospital and reiterated that the state is committed to providing free treatment for all children in need. He further emphasized that the government is focusing on expanding public hospital capacity to improve patient care.
