HRH Prince Salman: Horse Racing a Timeless Pillar of Bahrain's Heritage

Horse racing remains an integral part of Bahrain's heritage and continues to enjoy widespread popularity, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, affirmed on Thursday. His Royal Highness attended the 24th race of the 2024–2025 season at the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club (REHC) in Sakhir, where he underscored Bahrain's growing prominence in the sport. HRH highlighted the Kingdom's continued success in regional and international competitions, reflecting its commitment to excellence in horseracing. HRH the Crown Prince and Prime Minister noted that the ongoing development of the Kingdom's horse racing sector, supported by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, along with the strong participation of enthusiasts, reinforces Bahrain's position as a global hub for horseracing. His Royal Highness praised the pivotal role of the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club High Committee, chaired by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa - Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Educational Charitable Trust, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), and Chairman of the REHC High Committee - in advancing the sport in Bahrain. HRH Prince Salman commended the REHC High Committee's initiatives and development plans, which continue to foster a competitive environment for jockeys, owners, and spectators while driving the sport's sustained success. Among those in attendance were His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Isa bin Salman Educational Charitable Trust, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Labour Fund (Tamkeen), and Chairman of the REHC High Committee, alongside His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Supreme Council for Environment, Deputy Chairman of the REHC High Committee, and Member of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports. Several other senior officials and dignitaries were also present at the event. Race Winners The Fatees Al Hajeri Cup, presented by Ali bin Mohammed Al Hajeri, was awarded to jockey Abdul Rahim Jasim, while Yousif Osama Buheji, CEO of REHC, presented the winner of the REHC Cup Race 2 to jockey A.M. Smith. Additionally, the REHC Cup Race 6 was awarded to His Highness Shaikh Nader bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa. Dhafer Hussain Habeeb presented the Late S. Sharaf Al Alawi Cup to the winning owner, Abdulaziz Al Baker. The race was also attended by His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, and several senior officials and dignitaries. Competition Highlights The first race, the Fatees Al Hajeri Cup for 1,200 meters, WAHO, was won by Al Saqlawieh 1932 (BHR) from Victorious Stable, securing its second consecutive victory despite strong competition from Al Krush 1854. The second race, a 1,200-meter sprint for imported horses, saw Piz Nair from Al Adiyat Racing claim victory, marking its second win of the season. Jehangeer, ridden by Ali Isa, took second place, achieving his first victory in the category for specialised apprentice jockeys. The third race, a 1,200-meter event for locally bred horses, was won by "Naahy," owned by Fata Abdul Halim Majeed and ridden by Hussain Asghar, marking his third career win. In the fourth race, held over 1,600 meters for locally bred Maiden class horses, "Fatal Obsession," owned by M and E Racing, secured its first victory. The race featured the largest field of the event, with sixteen horses competing. The fifth race, contested over 1,600 meters for imported horses, saw "Rawyaan," owned by Hassan Emad Hassan and ridden by Anas Al Siyabi, return to winning form. Final Races The sixth race, The REHC Cup, was held over 2,000 meters for third-category first-class imported horses and was won by "Return of the Mac," owned by Al-Mohamediya Racing and ridden by Ali Hussain. In the seventh race, a 2,400-meter event for imported horses, "Tartan Chief" from Al-Mohamediya Racing secured his first victory of the season. He surged ahead in the final 400 meters, overtaking "Glen Savage," who finished second. The eighth and final race, held for the Late Sayed Sharaf Al-Alawi Cup over 2,400 meters, saw an intense competition, with "Epic" narrowly securing victory. The horse, owned by Alliance Racing and ridden by Hussain Makki, claimed its first-ever win in a dramatic finish.

King Hamad Cup Horse Racing Festival Kicks Off with Thrilling Competitions

Under the esteemed patronage of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of Bahrain, and in the presence of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Chairman of the Isa bin Salman Educational Charitable Endowment, Chairman of the Labor Fund, and Chairman of the Supreme Authority of Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club, alongside His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa, Vice Chairman of the Supreme Council for Environment and Vice Chairman of the Supreme Authority of Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club, the prestigious King Hamad Cup Horse Racing Festival commenced at the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club in Raffa. The festival, held over two days on March 6 and 7, 2025, attracted distinguished dignitaries, sponsors, and a large audience of horse racing enthusiasts who enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere of the first Ramadan racing night. The event featured eight fiercely competitive races, with elite horses from Bahrain and abroad competing for the coveted race cups. Thrilling Competitions and Honoring Champions The festival also marked the conclusion of the Bahrain International Championship. His Highness Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa presented the International Handicap Cup to His Highness Shaikh Sultan Al-Din bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa and awarded trophies to the winning trainer and jockey of the race. Additionally, HH Shaikh Faisal received the Fath Cup, sponsored by Bapco Energies, from CEO Mark Thomas, who also presented awards to the winning trainer and jockey. Mr. Yousif Osama Buhiji, CEO of Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club, honored the top point-scoring owners in the Bahrain International Championship. Awards were presented to HH Shaikh Nader bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa, representing Al Mohamediya Stables, and to representatives of Nick Hughes and Owen Promotions Limited. Meanwhile, Mr. Ahmed Shirazi, Managing Director of Bahrain Jewellery Center, awarded the top trainers, Marco Botti and Hugo Palmer. Mr. Talal Al-Areefi, CEO of Mazad, presented the Mazad Sprint Cup to the winning owner, Hussein Ibrahim Al-Afoo, and the Mazad Horse Cup to the winning trainer, Alan Smith. Additionally, Mr. Michael Flanagan of Coolmore Stud awarded the Coolmore Stud Cup to trainer Fawzi Nass. HH Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed bin Isa Al Khalifa received the sixth race cup from Mr. Ahmed Shirazi, while Mr. Isa Kanoo, Board Member of Ibrahim Khalil Kanoo, presented the Lexus Cup to HH Shaikh Nader bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa. Race Results: First Race: Bahrain Arabian Horses – 1000m: The horse "Kroshan M1080" from Al Mohamediya Stables secured its first victory with a stunning performance under apprentice jockey Hussein Asghar. Second Race: Mazad Sprint Cup (Local Production) – 1000m: Mare "Raheel" from Al-Afoo Stables claimed her first win of the season in her fourth start. Third Race: Coolmore Cup (Imported Horses) – 1600m: "Wantroina" from Victorious Stables triumphed after a fierce battle with "Basento." Fourth Race: International Handicap Cup (Imported Horses) – 1600m: "Solgars Empire" from Al Mohamediya Stables secured victory in the 11th race of the Bahrain International Championship. Fifth Race: Fath Cup (Sponsored by Bapco Energies) – 1200m: "Nationwide" from Victorious Stables defied expectations to claim a well-earned victory. Sixth Race: Grand Seiko Cup (Local Production) – 1200m: "Son of Zeus" from M & A Racing secured his second career win with a remarkable performance. Seventh Race: Mazad Horse Cup (Local Production) – 1800m: "Silk Road" from Al Adiyat Stables dominated from start to finish. Eighth Race: Lexus Cup (Local Production) – 1800m: "Bather" from Al Mohamediya Stables clinched his first career victory in a thrilling contest. The King Hamad Cup Horse Racing Festival showcased exceptional talent and fierce competition, reinforcing Bahrain's standing in the global equestrian scene. The event featured intense competition for several prestigious titles, including the Bahrain Mile Cup, Porsche Cup, Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club Cup, Sakhir Cup, and the British Equestrian Club Cup. The race was attended by several dignitaries, prominent figures, and representatives of sponsoring entities, along with a large audience of equestrian enthusiasts who enjoyed the thrilling atmosphere and fierce contests. Following the races, the winners were crowned, with Shaikh Faisal bin Rashid Al Khalifa presenting the Bahrain Mile Cup to owner Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim. Tim Price, General Manager of Porsche Bahrain, awarded the Porsche Cup to owner Ibrahim Al Afoo, while Sophie Ebel, Director of Newmarket and International Racing Club, handed the British Equestrian Club Cup to owner Hussain Al Afoo. Yousif Osama Buhiji, CEO of Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club, presented the Sakhir Cup to winning trainer Yousif Taher and awarded the Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club Cup to Shaikh Nader bin Mohammed bin Salman Al Khalifa. The event saw nine exciting races, with horses from various stables vying for victory. Al Afoo Stables secured three wins, with the most significant triumph occurring in the ninth race. Race Results: First Race – Sakhir Cup (1,400m - Purebred Arabian Horses 'Waho') The mare Saklawiya 1932, owned by Victorious Stable, clinched victory in a tight contest that was decided at the finish line. Second Race – Handicap Race (1,600m - Local Production) Mare Atlal from Al Muhammadiya Stable secured the win, ridden by jockey Hussein Asghar, who continues to shine in this season's apprentice races. Third Race – Bahrain Mile Cup (1,600m - Grade 1 'Imported' Horses) Horse Goman, owned by Mohammed Khalid Abdulrahim, lived up to expectations, claiming his third consecutive victory this season with a powerful final stretch run. Fourth Race – Handicap Race (2,000m - Local Production) Horse Lama Al Monti, from Victorious Stable, achieved his first win of the season. Fifth Race – Rashid Equestrian and Horse Racing Club Cup (2,000m - Grade 4 and Novice 'Imported' Horses) Horse Qamaran from Al Muhammadiya Stable earned his maiden victory after a strong performance under the skilled riding of Hussein Asghar. Sixth Race – Handicap Race (1,200m Straight - Local Production) Horse Shaqardi, owned by Al Afoo Stable, claimed an impressive win, guided by jockey Fayez Martin, making his debut in Bahraini races. Seventh Race – British Equestrian Club Cup (1,200m Straight - Handicap 'Imported' Horses) Horse Nine Below Zero, from Al Afoo Stable, secured his second win of the season, outpacing Mare Catherine Far in the final meters. Eighth Race – Maiden Race (1,000m - Local Production) Horse Skip Goat, representing Al Adiyat Stable, dominated the race, securing his first career victory in only his second seasonal appearance. Ninth and Final Race – Porsche Cup (1,000m - Category 2, Grade 1 'Imported' Horses) Horse Qasim delivered an extraordinary performance under jockey Alberto Sanna, clinching a thrilling win by a neck over Horse Kasib in the final strides. The 17th racing event of the season showcased remarkable talent and fierce competition, further solidifying Bahrain's reputation as a premier destination for equestrian sports.
