Evanescence to headline 93X Family Reunion event in St. Paul
The family reunion is on. 93X is again gathering hard rock fans for a 93X Family Reunion, which will be headlined by Evanescence on Sept. 19 at Xcel Energy Center. It's been more than 20 years since the Grammy-winning band had its breakthrough moment with "Bring Me to Life." Since releasing Fallen in 2003, they've gone through changes, with singer Amy Lee the only original member still on the roster. The group's most recent album, The Bitter Truth, was released in 2021. 'We're fired up to bring the 93X Family back to Xcel Energy Center,' said Derek Madden, VP of Mainstream Rock and 93X Program Director. "With Evanescence leading an insane lineup, it's going to be a night of pure electricity." Evanescence will be joined by Poppy, Dorothy, and Black Map. Poppy was in town earlier this year, headlining a night at The Fillmore not long after making her late-night TV debut on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Knocked Loose brought her along for their performance of "Suffocate," on which she's a guest singer. That appearance has been referred to as a "landmark" performance for a hardcore punk group on national TV and, unsurprisingly, was not a hit with all Kimmel viewers. Tickets for the 93X Family Reunion are available to the public at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 16. A presale starts a day earlier with the code "93XFAMILY."

‘Destiny 2' Has A ‘Titanfall' Mode Now And It's Very Fun
Destiny 2 We are in the 'wind down' phase of Destiny 2's current episode, with all its story content over, and only a new dungeon event going on. That's actually going pretty well ("explore" dungeons are a cool concept), but now as of this week, Destiny 2 has introduced something that I think is cool. A Titanfall mode. Okay not exactly, but a minimalist version of the concept called 'Heavy Metal.' It's a limited time event that pits the game's tanks against the Fallen's Brigs in 3v3 matches where big shots are lobbed at each side and tracking missiles can be used occasionally. There are minor dodge mechanics and it's also a 'kill confirmed' format where enemies drop coins you need to pick up after death for more points and to regain health. There are some 'balance' complaints about whether tanks are better (worse dodge but they hit harder) or Brigs are better (more mobility but less damage) though I have seen enough complaints about each side to say I think they…are actually pretty balanced. My games have been pretty evenly split between which side wins, though I know Bungie has all that data. Destiny 2 I think it's fun, though I know not everyone does. The best strategy is to stick with your team, as if not, you will be ganged up on and destroyed. You need to use your dodging or your super tank boost to avoid shots, you need to learn when and where to use your tracking shots, you need to know how to lead shots, you need to know paths to sneak up on people. There's actually a lot of strategy to it! Here, everyone is on a level playing field and it's survival of the fittest. I get that people are saying it gets boring fast but I mean, come on, it's not going to be the most advanced thing in the world and I don't really care if we're skipping one weekend of Trials for it. One bad thing it's doing is its currency acquisition system is horrible, and getting XP to crawl toward a brand new gun-sparrow is sort of interminable and needs some buffs. But the gameplay itself? Even if we're at 5% of Titanfall here, it's fun, and once again it reminds us how awful it is that series is dead. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. James Gandolfini Biography Peels Back the Curtain on His Working Relationship With Denzel Washington
A recently released biography following the life of the late James Gandolfini suggests that he and Denzel Washington might have had some tension throughout their working relationship — or did they? A report from the set of the 1995 film Crimson Tide, published in Premiere magazine at the time, claimed that Washington 'storm[ed] over' to director Tony Scott and said something to the effect of not working with Gandolfini after one particular scene. The scene had Gandolfini grabbing Washington by the collar. (Washington played Lieutenant Commander Ron Hunter opposite Gandolfini's Lieutenant Bobby Dougherty in the film.) Rocky Carroll, who also appeared in the movie, recalled the apparent tension in Jason Bailey's Gandolfini: Jim, Tony, and the Life of a Legend, released on Tuesday, April 29. 'It got really heated really fast,' Carroll recalled in the book, recalling Gandolfini saying he was just 'doing [his] job.' Josh Brolin Recalls 'Almost' Getting Into a Fight With Denzel Washington on 'American Gangster' Set Gandolfini's former manager Mark Armstrong admitted that Gandolfini 'did get a little aggressive, more aggressive than I think Denzel was ready for,' which caused 'friction' between the two stars. The book revealed that Gandolfini thought he was going to get fired from the film. Spoiler alert, he was not. In fact, the two ended up becoming friends. Bailey's book published a portion of the Premiere magazine report, which claimed that Gandolfini and Washington started to 'scuffle vigorously' during a separate on-set incident before they 'burst into laughter.' Washington, at the time, stated that they 'fooled everybody' on set. Armstrong noted in Bailey's biography that there was a 'respect' between the two actors, especially after Gandolfini apologized for the initial interaction. 'Literally immediately after that, they started a great friendship,' Armstrong wrote. 'And Jim had a ton of respect for him.' Bailey wrote that the situation on the Crimson Tide set was 'genuinely heated' but was turned down by the two stars. 'The Sopranos' Cast: Where Are They Now? Gandolfini and Washington went on to star in two other movies together, Fallen (1998) and The Taking of Pelham 123 (2009). Bailey's Gandolfini biography detailed the late star's life from his New Jersey upbringing to The Sopranos fame — and, yes, there are multiple chapters on the famed HBO show. Gandolfini played the titular role of Tony Soprano from 1999 to 2007, and the biography peels back the curtain on how the actor apparently felt about being widely known for that role. The book also looks at the ups and downs in the actor's life prior to his death. Gandolfini died from a heart attack at age 51 in June 2013. Gandolfini: Jim, Tony, and the Life of a Legend is out now.

Fallen firefighters honored at ceremony in Springfield
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The Springfield Fire Department held a special ceremony Monday morning outside of their headquarters. The fire department and members of the community came together at the Fallen Firefighter Memorial to honor those who have made the ultimate sacrifice protecting the people of Springfield. Holyoke school committee member elected President of National School Boards Association Various captains, the Fire Commissioner, and Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno all spoke and shared appreciation for the men and women who run towards danger as others are running away. There are 26 names on the memorial, including a chief, lieutenant, and numerous firefighters. 'It's great to see the community members come out and pay respect to these members, the same as the fire department does,' said Springfield Fire Commissioner B.J. Calvi. 'And so they truly understand their safety is provided by human beings who go to work every day, just like they do, and go out of their way and risk their lives just to protect them.' Three wreaths were then laid by the memorial, one for those who have fallen, one for those who have retired, and the last for those who have died from cancer. Occupational cancer is the leading cause of death for firefighters. While there are 26 names on the memorial, the community and fire department also continue to remember the fallen firefighters' families, who will forever be impacted by their sacrifice to the city of Springfield.
