The Latest Update On ‘We Were Liars' Season 2 On Amazon Prime Video
We Were Liars Amazon has a new no. 1 series on its top 10 list, an unexpected hit adapted from yet another novel. That would be We Were Liars, the drama about a group of friends and their irritating rich parents and grandfather. The series had a rather shocking ending, and in some ways, seemed pretty conclusive. It is not, however, fully conclusive, and fans are now wondering what the status of season 2 is. Bad news and good news there. The bad news is that Amazon has not renewed We Were Liars for a second season, albeit with the caveat that it is really early for something like that to be announced. The good news is that between the show's performance and its abundance of source material, a second season or even a spin-off could be in the works. We Were Liars is the first of a two-book series, the second being We Fell Apart. It's in the same 'world' as We Were Liars, albeit with almost a wholly different cast of characters. Then there's a prequel book, Family of Liars, about a different generation in the story, which would again, have a largely new cast. Here's the synopsis for We Fell Apart: 'The invitation arrives out of the blue. In it, Matilda discovers a father she's never met. Kingsley Cello is a visionary, a reclusive artist. And when he asks her to spend the summer at his seaside home, Hidden Beach, Matilda expects to find a part of herself she's never fully understood.' 'Instead, she finds Meer, her long-lost, openhearted brother; Brock, a former child star battling demons; and brooding, wild Tatum, who just wants her to leave their crumbling sanctuary.' We Fell Apart The existence of more source material is not the only talk about season 2, which has also come from its cast. Here's star Natalie Alyn Lind speaking to Us about her fate: 'I don't think Cadence is done whatsoever. I think that there's a beauty to how she gets on that boat and leaves, but this is just her leaving,' Lind said. 'But what does that mean? There's an entire legacy. She has to figure out how to get along with her grandfather, so her secrets don't leak or burn the place to the ground again. There [are]But the cast wouldn't be back, right? That leaves another option. They could not do the source material and write a second season that does continue Cadence's story and brings back a lot of the cast. The other books could be adapted later or as parallel projects. It is almost certain the We Were Liars will be renewed, but the form it would take is an open question that no one can answer yet. Loved 'We Were Liars'? There's A Prequel, 'Family Of Liars' — And It Could Be The Plot Of Season Two
This article contains spoilers for the ending of 'We Were Liars' For many viewers, the grown Sinclair sisters were one of the highlights of We Were Liars. And now, if that final scene of the series is anything to go by, we could be getting a lot more of them if a season two happens. Following the success of the 2014 book, We Were Liars, author E. Lockhart decided to expand the 'Sinclair universe' and wrote a prequel, Family Of Liars. The book tells the story of the Sinclair sisters when they were younger, notably the summer that older sister Carrie (Mamie Gummer) turned 17. The story is framed around Carrie talking to the ghost of her dead son, Johnny (Joseph Zada) — one of The Liars from We Were Liars — and telling him everything that happened. While a second season of We Were Liars has yet to be confirmed, the final scene of its first outing, shows Carrie turning back to addiction and talking to Johnny, which seems to confirm that any follow-up would be faithful to the plot of the prequel book. Further, one of the showrunners for the screen adaptation, Carina Adly MacKenzie, hinted to Variety that any future series would involve the prequel book: 'The great thing about this show is that the first season has a satisfying, powerful ending. So I want people who generally don't tune in to the first season because they're afraid it's going to get canceled, to know that they're safe to watch this show, and if it doesn't get a second season, you've still got a whole story. But also, Emily wrote three books and we love this world. We love our cast. We'd love the opportunity that exists for more story, so we're hopeful that we'll get to come back and do more. But also, should this be a limited series, I think it's a beautiful story.' The third book MacKenzie noted is We Fell Apart, an upcoming novel which will be released in November. The story finds eldest sister Carrie telling her son, Johnny, stories of when she was young - before explaining to him the summer she turned 17, and the Sinclair sisters themselves became liars. Telling the story of how Carrie became addicted to medication after a routine jaw operation, the tale picks up just after the death of the youngest Sinclair sister, Rosemary, with the whole family reeling privately, but, in true We Were Liars fashion, trying to put on a front as 'American royalty'. The story continues to flesh out the secrets of the Sinclair family that are hinted at in We Were Liars' first season and shows the reasons the sisters are the way they are — it's a must-read for fans of the first book (and show). Will There Be A Season Two Of We Were Liars?
Prime Video's new series We Were Liars is already making waves, after it launched on the streaming platform on 18 June. Fans have been binging all eight episodes of the show in droves, leading it to rise in Amazon's Top 10. The family secrets and betrayal drama, starring Emily Alyn Lind and Shubham Maheshwari, is based on Emily Lockhart's YA novel of the same name, which was originally published in 2014 before it became popular after its BookTok resurgence six years later. However, the small-screen adaptation has a different ending to the novel, leading viewers hopeful for a second series. When she was 16, a mysterious accident changes Cadence's life forever, leaving her with amnesia, and she returns to the Beechwood a year on, seeking answers and in search of the truth. In the finale, Cadence discovers the truth – in fits and starts – but while the weight of the family secret is released from her shoulders, the ghost of her late cousin Johnny struggles to move on, with his fate seems to be tied to his mother Carrie. And the last moments of the eighth episode set up a second season of We Were Liars, opening the door for an earlier generation of the Sinclair family to become the main focus of the show. Not yet – but there are talks happening. Showrunners Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie dropped a big hint in recent interviews, although they admit they've yet to get the official green light. 'They are very supportive and just waiting on whatever data it is these algorithmic creators need to have before they write big check, so we're looking forward to the data working in our favour,' Julie told The Wrap, adding they have had 'endless conversations'. Carina remarked, 'We are, as usual, at the mercy of the robots.' While they're keeping schtum over the rumours that a potential second series could centre on a different generation of the family, Julie said, 'The best gift that Emily Lockhart gave us as we were sitting down to write We Were Liars was she published Family Of Liars, which was a prequel about the Sinclair sisters when they were teenagers. The book opens with Carrie telling the story of a very dark time and a very bad summer to her dead son.' She added, 'We just wanted the audience to know that there's still more story to tell, and we're really looking forward to the opportunity to be able to do it.' Whether or not a second series gets the green light, the showrunners are proud of the show. Carina told Variety that they're hopeful for another season – and possibly a third.
