In a chat with Collider, the Barbarian director said that the 1999 film Magnolia proved pivotal for Weapons. 'Magnolia was a big inspiration for this movie. And the cold open of Magnolia is another montage with really energetic camera moves and zooms on a dolly, and all kinds of swinging, and it's just never stationary,' Cregger said, while discussing how the movie influenced him. Actor Anthony Mackie has revealed he almost missed out on his breakthrough role in The Hurt Locker due to his commitment to another project: one he now regrets taking on. Speaking on a recent episode of Variety's Know Their Lines, Mackie described the experience of working on the unreleased film as 'one of the most disheartening' of his career.
