Farah Griffin: Trump trying to ‘goad Democrats into arguing there's no crime in DC'

Former White House aide Alyssa Farah Griffin weighed in on President Trump's deployment of National Guard troops in Washington to help curb crime rates, suggesting that he is trying to 'goad Democrats.' 'He thinks the nation's capital should represent the best of America. But I think he's also doing something that Trump is very good at, which he's goading Democrats into the fight that he wants to have,' Farah Griffin, a co-host of ABC's 'The View,' said during an appearance on CNN's 'AC360.' 'Now, there's a very reasonable and important debate to be had over federalizing law enforcement and deploying the National Guard on American streets,' she continued. 'That's the debate we should be having. He's really trying to goad Democrats into arguing 'there's no crime in D.C. D.C. is great.'' The president announced Monday that the Justice Department (DOJ) would take control over the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) and about 800 National Guard troops would be deployed in the nation's capital as part of the administration's effort to curb crime. The effort comes despite city crime data showing violent crime is down 26 percent compared to 2024. Homicides have been down 32 percent compared to 2023, although the number of homicides in 2024 was still above the years leading up to the COVID-19 pandemic. NBC4 reported last month that an MPD police commander, Michael Pulliam, was put on leave in May and is being probed after allegedly altering crime statistics in his district. 'I lived there for 10 years. I'm there all the time. You spend time there, you see a lot of crime. It feels worse. The stats may bear otherwise, but there's communities that didn't feel unsafe a few years ago that just don't feel as safe as they once did,' Farah Griffin told host Anderson Cooper. 'And he is begging and goading Democrats into saying it's actually much better than you think, because crime is an issue Trump has generally performed very well on,' she added. 'That's what he's getting at here.' D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser, along with other Democratic mayors and the party's federal lawmakers, have assailed the Trump administration's decision. Bowser called the push 'unsettling and unprecedented' and added Monday that she will 'work every day to make sure it's not a complete disaster.'

Qatar jet gift to Trump ‘scares me' in ‘so many ways: Farah Griffin

Former White House aide and current political pundit Alyssa Farah Griffin knocked President Trump over his reported acceptance of a jet from Qatar to use for his official travel, saying the move 'scares' her. 'I don't know why he needs a brand new luxury plane right now,' Farah Griffin said Monday on ABC's The View. 'It's clearly a violation of ethics rules … it's also a huge national security risk.' Farah Griffin said Trump accepting the jet signifies the U.S. 'getting in bed' with Qatar, adding 'it scares me in so many ways.' Farah Griffin isn't the only one made nervous by Trump's decision. Several GOP senators on Monday told The Hill they had concerns about the purchase. 'I'm not flying on a Qatari plane. They support Hamas,' said Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.), an ardent Trump supporter. 'I don't know how you make it safe.' ''Gosh, let me give you a plane.' I mean, that seems pretty nice, but they support Hamas, so I don't know. I don't know how you make it safe,' Scott continued, declining to say what Trump should do as the decision is up to him. 'I don't want the president of the United States flying on an unsafe plane.' Trump on Monday defended his decision, saying a new plane was necessary and he would have been 'stupid' not to accept the gift from Qatar. 'They said, 'We would like to do something,' and if we can get a 747 as a contribution to our Defense Department to use during a couple of years while they're building the other ones, I think that was a very nice gesture,' Trump told reporters on Monday. Some Democrats have suggested the president needs to get approval from Congress in order to a luxury Boeing 747-8 jet from the Qatari government. Farah Griffin, a CNN contributor and co-host of The View, was a former top press aide to the president during his first term who has since emerged as one of his sharpest critics in the media. ‘The View': Alyssa Farah Griffin Warns ‘We're Not Feeling the Real Impact of These Tariffs Yet'

As Donald Trump continues to wage his trade war with high tariffs, 'The View' host and former Trump staffer Alyssa Farah Griffin offered a warning to audiences on Tuesday morning: the worst is still to come. To kick off the day's Hot Topics, the ABC hosts zeroed in on since-debunked reports that Amazon might make price hikes due to tariffs visible to consumers, largely applauding the hypothetical move. The women also pushed against the White House's assertion that it was a 'hostile and political act,' arguing instead that it's simply good business practice. When it came time for her views on the topic, Farah Griffin was quick to point out that she actually agreed with one thing White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said while addressing media about Amazon's choice: Americans voted for Trump based on his economic policies in his first term. 'The problem with it is, he is not following that economic formula, and he in fact ran on not following that formula,' she reminded everyone. Farah Griffin noted that, in reality, Trump 'is doing the absolute opposite,' and getting called out for it, resulting in only a 38% approval rating on his handling of the economy. But, she expects things to only get worse from here. 'I'm telling you, we're not feeling the real impact of these tariffs yet,' Farah Griffin said. 'Give it a few weeks, you're gonna see empty shelves, you're gonna see skyrocketing costs.' 'The View' airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC. ‘The View' Host Alyssa Farah Griffin Predicts Pete Hegseth's Days Are Numbered: ‘People Smell Blood in the Water'

As U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth once again faces criticism for handling sensitive military operation info in a Signal group chat — this one different than the one that accidentally included a journalist, but instead included Hegseth's wife and brother — 'The View' host Alyssa Farah Griffin is pretty sure his days are numbered. The ABC talk show returned from their Easter hiatus on Tuesday morning, and to kick things off, the women discussed the latest gaffe by Hegseth. On Monday, NPR reported that the White House is indeed looking for a replacement for Hegseth, and Farah Griffin was quick to agree that the Trump administration likely wants to get him out. 'I think that people smell blood in the water, advisors are going to get to Trump and say 'This guy is too big of a distraction,' and his days will be numbered,' she argued. That said, Farah Griffin was not at all surprised to hear about Hegseth's latest incident, noting that it was always abundantly clear that he should not have gotten the position in the first place. 'Listen, this individual was always underqualified for this role,' she said. 'Yes, he served our country in uniform but he did not have the years of experience it takes to run this big of a department, and the cracks are showing. And there are going to be more stories like this.' With that prediction, Farah Griffin also offered up some ideas for a replacement, including Sen. Joni Ernst. But, assuming Trump still wants a Fox News personality, Farah Griffin also floated Jack Keane, citing his additional experience as an actual army general. 'The View' airs weekdays at 11 a.m. ET on ABC. The post 'The View' Host Alyssa Farah Griffin Predicts Pete Hegseth's Days Are Numbered: 'People Smell Blood in the Water' appeared first on TheWrap.

‘The View': Ana Navarro Begs Canada to ‘Take One for the Team' and Become 51st State to Vote Trump Out

The hosts of 'The View' may think Donald Trump's endeavor to make Canada the 51st state is an absurd one, but realizing how Canada's politics actually lean, Ana Navarro is begging them to just 'take one for the team.' During Friday's Hot Topics discussion, the women once again mocked the president's obsession with buying Greenland and also making Canada a state, with host Alyssa Farah Griffin pointing out that, realistically, that could be a longterm loss for Republicans. 'Does he realize Canada is to the left of us?' Farah Griffin questioned. 'Like, a Canadian conservative is way to the left of me, and a Canadian leftist is to the left of people here.' Those leanings particularly matter when you consider the size of the country as well. 'It's larger than the state of California. So if you imported 40 million Canadians, and made them the 51st state, it would be democratic rule for the next 20 years,' Farah Griffin added. Looking at those numbers, Navarro put out her request to Canadians. 'Canada, take one for the team!' she begged. 'Please, people, save us!'
