Jharkhand youth arrested for sloganeering on social media post

RANCHI: Jharkhand Police have arrested a youth from Ranchi for misusing social media to raise anti-India slogans. The youth, identified as Farhan Mallick, had raised the slogan 'Ghazwa-e-Hind' on his Instagram post, besides posting objectionable comments against the Indian Army, using slogans and the flag of a terrorist organisation. He was arrested after veteran BJP leader and Ranchi MLA CP Singh alerted Ranchi police, sharing social media details of the youth. Taking swift action, Ranchi police arrested the youth within an hour, initiating an investigation in this regard. The Instagram account of Farhan Mallick had several objectionable posts, including the flags used by terrorist organisations like ISIS, Taliban and Al-Qaeda, besides having the slogan of Ghazwa-e-Hind. Earlier, alerting the police, CP Singh posted on his social media handle X, 'Please Note - The pictures shared by Farhan Malick, on his social media are extremely provocative and related to national security and sovereignty of India. On Instagram, he has shared the slogan 'Ghazwa-e-Hind', an insult to the Indian Army, and most seriously, he has shared the flag, which is the identity of international terrorist organizations like ISIS, Taliban, and Al-Qaeda.'

Journalist Farhan Mallick gets bail in PECA case

Listen to article A district and sessions court in Karachi on Monday granted bail to journalist Farhan Mallick in a case registered under Pakistan's cybercrime law, the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA). District Judge (East) Karachi Dr Chaudhry Wasim Iqbal approved the bail application after hearing arguments from Mallick's counsel, who said that no concrete evidence had been presented despite the passage of considerable time since the filing of the case. 'The case is baseless, and even screenshots cannot be treated as sufficient grounds for prosecution,' said defence lawyer Moez Jafri. The court ordered Farhan Mallick to submit surety bonds worth Rs100,000. Mallick is facing charges under PECA as well as allegations related to running an illegal call centre. On April 3, the court had issued a second notice to the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) after earlier hearings. Last month, Farhan Malik was taken into custody by the FIA in Karachi.

Journalist Farhan Mallick sent to jail on judicial remand

Listen to article A judicial magistrate in Malir on Monday ordered journalist Farhan Mallick's imprisonment under judicial custody, rejecting the Federal Investigation Agency's (FIA) request for an extension of his physical remand. Mallick, along with other accused, was presented before the court upon the completion of his initial remand. The magistrate denied further custody and ordered his transfer to Landhi Jail. During the hearing, co-accused Atir told the court that he had never met Mallick before and saw him for the first time in lockup, refuting claims of Mallick's involvement in an illegal call centre. Mallick's lawyer, Jibran Nasir, argued that FIA had failed to provide details of the alleged crime and questioned what evidence had been recovered. The investigating officer responded that the seized equipment had been sent for forensic examination. Nasir also claimed that as soon as Mallick was placed on judicial remand, another case was registered against him. However, FIA denied any additional cases beyond the two currently filed. Mallick faces charges under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) for allegedly posting anti-state content on social media. He is also accused of involvement in a money laundering case linked to an illegal call centre. His bail hearing for the PECA case is scheduled for April 3, while the second case will be heard on April 7.
