Shruti Seth recalls Farida Jalal's warning on the Fanaa set; 'You'll get scolded badly'

Shruti Seth , best known for her roles in TV shows like Shararat and films like Fanaa and Slumdog Millionaire, recently shared a light-hearted anecdote from her time on the set of Fanaa with Aamir Khan and Kajol. In a conversation with Hindi Rush, the actor recalled a subtle yet memorable moment involving veteran actor Farida Jalal . Shruti revealed that during rehearsals she would occasionally remind Farida Jalal of her lines if needed. Farida with her wit would respond with a playful warning. 'Ek din jab tum kisi bade actor ke samne aise bol dogi, toh bahut maar khaogi.' (One day, if you speak like that in front of a big actor, you will get scolded badly.) The advice may have been tongue-in-cheek, but it spoke volumes about the unspoken hierarchy on a film set. Shruti then recalled that her correction, when Aamir flubbed his lines in rehearsal, was received in a casual, good-humoured way. She reminded him, 'Nahi nahi, ye nahi—ye aapki line hai.' And Aamir simply replied, 'Oh yeah, right!' She added that Aamir and Kajol were both welcoming and professional on set, never making her feel like the junior actor. Everyone rehearsed together, supporting each other, which made the environment collaborative rather than hierarchical. Directed by Kunal Kohli and produced by Yash Raj Films, Fanaa was a commercial success and continues to be remembered for its emotional storyline and powerful performance. Shruti played a supporting role in the film, which she says played an important part in shaping the early days of her acting career. Farida Jalal's light-hearted warning, though brief, left a lasting impression. It wasn't meant as criticism, but came across as a gentle guidance passed down with warmth from one generation to the next.
