Man arrested after chase from Fauquier deputies
FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A 35-year-old man has been arrested after an overnight chase from deputies, according to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office. Deputies attempted to pull over a white Cadillac Escalade for reckless driving on Marsh Road near Bealeton, but the driver reportedly refused to stop, and a pursuit ensued. Man charged with murder after admitting to shooting other man in Herndon, police say According to deputies, crews were able to stop the vehicle in the 14000 block of Warrenton Road, and the driver was taken into custody. Deputies say Damien Devon McKoy of Winchester was charged with felony DUI, driving suspended, felony eluding and reckless driving. He is being held in the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center. Fauquier County school resource officer saves student's life
FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. (DC News Now) — A Fauquier County school resource officer (SRO) is being honored for saving a sixth-grader's life through his quick response to a medical emergency. The Fauquier County Sheriff's Office said Deputy First Class (DFC) G. Jenkins was on duty at Auburn Middle School on May 16, monitoring the sixth-grade lunch period, when a student approached him, stating that a boy was choking. Youth curfew goes into place at DC's Wharf over Memorial Day Weekend Deputies said Jenkins saw that the student was turning purple and clutching his neck, so he quickly ran over to him, performing the Heimlich maneuver. The food was dislodged, and Jenkins escorted him to the school nurse, as the entire cafeteria erupted in applause. According to Jenkins, he was 'just doing his job.' 'Fauquier County Deputies working as SROs provide a sense of security to teachers and students who know they can count on them for all kinds of help. I am grateful to DFC Jenkins for acting quickly and decisively to save that child,' Fauquier County Sheriff Jeremy Falls said. School officials also shared their admiration. 'Deputy Jenkins exemplified the dedication and compassion we are fortunate SROs bring to our schools. A Salvadoran illegal immigrant has been arrested and charged after allegedly stabbing a Virginia man to death in a stranger's home on March 27, according to local reports and authorities. Jose Velasquez-Martinez, 27, is charged with malicious wounding and murder in connection with 29-year-old Brandon Probst's death in Warrenton, according to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office. Fauquier County sergeant reunites missing 91-year-old man with daughter
FAUQUIER COUNTY, Va. () — A sergeant in Fauquier County is being recognized after he quickly reunited a missing 91-year-old man with dementia back with his daughter Tuesday. According to the Fauquier County Sheriff's Office (FCSO), on March 18 just after 3 a.m., the Emergency Communications Center received a call from the daughter and caregiver of her 91-year-old father. She told dispatchers that she searched their home, in The Plains area, but could not find her dad and the back door was left open. She also explained he suffered from dementia and is enrolled in Project Lifesaver with the FCSO. 'No longer in Ward 7 will this behavior be tolerated': Massive trash pile in Northeast DC cleaned up; investigations underway According to the sheriff's office, the Project Lifesaver International (PLI) program is a public non-profit organization providing training and technology to help find people with cognitive disorders prone to wandering off. Each person enrolled in the program is given a bracelet that emits a unique frequency from a piece of tracking equipment. The emergency communications team sent deputies and medics to the home along with Sgt. J. Welch who is trained in the PLI program. Once on the scene, Welch began taking signal readings with a device around the home but could not pick up a tracker. He then walked into a wooded area near a creek and up a small hill, where his device began to capture a signal connected to the missing man's bracelet. WATCH: Woman rescued after car plunges into Potomac River As Welch followed the signal, he was led to a neighbor's property, where he found the man inside the back seat of the neighbor's vehicle.
