Target expands private label offerings through chef partnership
Dive Brief: Target announced Wednesday it has teamed up with James Beard Award-winning pitmaster Rodney Scott to launch 12 co-branded products for the retailer's Good & Gather Good & Gather Collabs + Rodney Scott collection features barbecue goods such as Carolina-style appetizers, relish, sauces, honey-flavored cornbread and muffin mix, and brown sugar baked collaboration marks Target's second time co-branding food items under its private label line as the retailer works to ramp up its offerings under its grocery brands. Dive Insight: The new collaboration comes at the beginning of the summer merchandising season, when consumers look to retailers for supplies to fuel their cookouts. All of the products under the new collab are under $9, with a majority under $4, Target said. An unspecified number of items under the collab will have a starting price of $2.99 for a limited time, according to the retailer. The items will be sold in stores and online starting June 1. Scott, who grew up in South Carolina, has "perfected the art of whole-hog BBQ" and brings a positive attitude, Target said. Target launched its first Good & Gather Collabs earlier this year with fellow James Beard Award-winning chef and restaurateur Ann Kim. That line featured frozen pizzas and appetizers. Grocery, and especially private label grocery, is playing a key role in Target's summer plans. Earlier this month, Target included grocery items in its plans to add more than 10,000 items to its assortment this summer, with thousands priced below $20. The retailer has also planned in-store seasonal displays, including The Boardwalk Shop, a food and beverage destination featuring seasonal treats such as red, white and blue snacks and limited-time build-your-own s'mores kits. Target has also announced seasonal private label items like beef burger patties and several Favorite Day items, such as tart cherry ice cream, dill pickle pretzel twists and hot chili lime popcorn. Launched in 2019, Good & Gather is Target's top-selling private brand, with more than 2,500 items that are free from artificial flavors, synthetic colors, artificial sweeteners and high fructose corn syrup. Food and beverage was a bright spot in Target's first quarter as nearly all other categories recorded declines in sales during the period. Net and comparable-store sales were down 2.8% and 3.8%, respectively, for the quarter, the retailer reported earlier this month. Copyright 2025 Industry Dive. All rights reserved.

Grocers kickstart summer with value
Grocers are turning up the heat on savings with the rapid approach of Memorial Day weekend and summer. Seasonal deals are a tried-and-true way grocers work to build customer loyalty, and as consumer price sensitivity remains prevalent, Memorial Day and the upcoming summer months present an opportunity for grocers to underscore that they offer the value their shoppers crave. Kroger's Memorial Day savings deal centers on backyard grilling and private label. The grocer is offering a bundle that feeds 16 people at $3.50 a head and includes barbeque staples like burger patties, buns, cheese, baked beans and potato chips and more, with some of the items carrying the grocer's name brand. This isn't the first time Kroger has leaned on grilling to construct the ideal summer value package. Last summer, Kroger created a grilling bundle for the Fourth of July that provided shoppers with all the essentials for an Independence Day barbeque for $4 a person. On Thursday, Natural Grocers kicked off a Memorial Day savings initiative that's running through Sunday with price reductions on staple summer-event food items like hot dogs, sandwich breads, potato chips, grilling rub and sparkling water, according to the press release. Members of the grocer's {N}power loyalty program have access to additional offers during the same time period on items such as ground beef, condiments and smoked bacon as well as 10% off alcohol purchases at select stores. Meal bundles are also up for grabs for these customers, including a Burger Meal Deal available until the end of September that feeds a party of four for under $14 total. Natural Grocers' decision to offer extra discounts to its loyalty program members underscores how the specialty grocer continues to lean into its membership program to drive more value. Last week, Target announced it is looking to "make the most of every summer moment" with the launch of 10,000 new products between May and August that include groceries, beauty products and home goods. Food and beverage items part of the launch ahead of Father's Day include pre-seasoned burgers and sparkling water under the Good & Gather brand; new ice cream flavors like tart cherry blast and peach cobbler; and seasonal snacks including chili lime popcorn and honey mustard pretzel twists under the Favorite Day line. The retailer is also introducing "Hello Summer Saturdays" every Saturday in June at all of its stores. The in-store event will include free giveaways for Target Circle members and weekly limited-time Target Circle offers on goods like Favorite Day foods and summer toys and clothing. Target also has a summer food display dubbed "The Boardwalk Shop," which will serve as a "destination featuring seasonal treats," according to the announcement. Copyright 2025 Industry Dive. Cheesecake sold at Target in five states recalled due to undeclared tree nut allergen
A popular cheesecake sold at Target has been recalled due to an undeclared ingredient. In a press release on Wednesday, Dessert Holdings LLC announced that it was recalling a Target brand cheesecake. The product is Favorite Day's New York Style Cheesecake, sold in a six-ounce container with two slices of cake. The cheesecake was recalled due to mislabeled packaging, resulting in undeclared pecans in the products. Customers who 'have an allergy or severe sensitivity to pecans run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions,' if they consume this cheesecake, as noted in the press release. Dessert Holdings LLC received a customer complaint on March 14 about the product containing pecans, even though that wasn't declared on the label. The labeling issue has now been resolved and 'no other manufacturing dates or lots are impacted.' There have not been any reported illnesses due to the product, as of March 21. The impacted product was distributed between February 14 and March 7. They have the Lot code 25028A1 000039133, printed on the side of the plastic packaging, and UPC of 0 85239 09690 1. Recalled cheesecakes were sent to Target Distribution Centers in California, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas. The product was sold at Target stores in these states. Customers who have the Target brand cheesecake should not consume it. They can also contact Target Guest Relations for a full refund. Dessert Holdings LLC's announcement comes days after Nestlé U.S. issued a voluntary recall on a limited supply of its Stouffer's and Lean Cuisine meals due to the potential presence of 'wood-like material.' The food conglomerate said the recalled products had been distributed 'at major retailers' between September 2024 and March 2025. The recalled meals include the following meals made between August 2024 and March 2025: Lean Cuisine Butternut Squash Ravioli, Lean Cuisine Spinach Artichoke Ravioli, Lean Cuisine Lemon Garlic Shrimp Stir Fry, and Stouffer's Party Size Chicken Lasagna. Nestlé said the company launched an investigation after consumers contacted them to report multiple issues — one involving a potential choking incident. Earlier this month, Savage Pet also became the latest pet food brand to recall some of its cat food products due to the possibility that it is contaminated with bird flu. The recall extended to 66 of the company's 84-oz boxes and 74 small, 21-oz boxes. Each item had a best-by date of November 15, 2026. These boxes were distributed to retailers across California, Colorado, New York, Pennsylvania, and Washington. Pet owners who may have fed the food to their cats should monitor their animals for symptoms of the bird flu, also known as Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) H5N1. According to the FDA, bird flu symptoms include 'fever, lethargy, low appetite, reddened or inflamed eyes, discharge from the eyes and nose, difficulty breathing, and neurological signs like tremors, stiff body movements, seizure, lack of coordination, or blindness.'

Popular Target Bakery Item Recalled Across 5 States
Dessert Holdings, LLC has recalled a popular Target Favorite Day bakery item due to mislabeling. The Favorite Day Gourmet New York-Style Cheesecake has been recalled because the cheesecake contains pecans, but the packaging does not disclose that it contains tree nuts, one of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration's (FDA) required labels. The recall was initiated on March 20 after the manufacturer received a customer complaint about the mislabeling. However, there have been no illnesses or allergic reactions reported at this time. The recalled Favorite Day Gourmet New York-Style Cheesecake was sold at Target stores in California, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, and Texas between Feb. 14, 2025, and March 7, 2025. You can verify if you have the recalled cheesecake by looking for the lot code 25028A1 000039133 and UPC 0 85239 09690 1 on the side of the plastic clamshell. You can find product images in the recall press release. No other Favorite Day products or bakery items are impacted by this recall. If you have this product, and have a pecan or tree nut allergy or sensitivity, you should not consume the cheesecake as it can cause serious or life-threatening allergic reactions. Instead, you should throw the recalled cheesecake away or return it to Target for a full refund. However, if you do not have a pecan or tree nut allergy or sensitivity, you technically don't have to do anything about the recall. The Favorite Day cheesecake was only recalled for a package labeling error, not because the dessert is inherently unsafe. So, if you don't have tree nut allergies or sensitivities, the cheesecake is safe for you to consume. If you have any health-related questions, you should contact your healthcare provider. For questions regarding the recall, or to request a refund, you can contact Target Guest Relations at (800) 444-0680 or Dessert Holdings at (720) 766-9060 or marketing@ Read the original article on ALLRECIPES
