Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan saw me freaking out on day 1 of Metro In Dino, recalls Ali Fazal: ‘The film is inside Anurag Basu's head, no one knows what's happening'
Anurag Basu is all set to return with the follow up to his 2007 romance anthology Life… in a Metro, Metro In Dino, slated to release in cinemas on July 4. It consists of almost an entirely new cast, including Aditya Roy Kapur, Sara Ali Khan, and Ali Fazal. Fazal recently revealed he initially struggled with Basu's style of filmmaking. 'Basu sir has a very interesting way. The whole film is inside his head. So nobody knows what's happening. And that's another exhilarating experience because you don't know what's coming,' said Fazal, adding, 'I remember Adi (Kapur), Sara and all these guy are on set the first day, and they can see me freaking out! Kya karein, scene nahi hai (What to do, there's no scene paper). But that's how he works.' In the interview with Galatta Plus, Fazal explained further, 'The scene paper comes in very last minute. Of course, there's a whole script, and he's got the whole thing down.' But he also pointed out that nobody could access the full script because Basu's approach to Metro In Dino is quite different from its first part. 'This particular construction of Metro is pretty different. And I think for that very reason, he didn't want us to read the script. It really helped! When the film is out, I'd love to talk about it. It's surprising that even in a very light, romantic film, he's managed to bring his swing. And I enjoy that,' added Fazal. He claimed that collaborating with Basu can be both unsettling and rewarding. 'He pushes you! He'll throw in a word or an emotion, and just give me a little different perspective. Most times, when he gets it, he doesn't. That's another problem directors don't realize — Mani (Ratnam) sir, Basu, they are lovely directors, but actors love it when the director goes, 'Good!' But there's nothing. He just says, 'Next shot,'' said Fazal. Fazal will be next seen in his debut Tamil film, Mani Ratnam's crime thriller Thug Life, in which he stars alongside Kamal Haasan, Simbu, Trisha, and Nasser among others. The film is slated to release in cinemas next Thursday on June 5. Going back to Metro In Dino, Fazal revealed it's a musical so Basu works around that. Also Read — Ali Fazal on Mirzapur The Film: 'It is like going back to the start…' 'He'll give you a rhythm, literally a rhythm, sometimes as a beat! For me, that's like nectar because then I can map everything. We don't use beats or rhythm much. That's the way I learnt. I never got to learn acting. Hence, Adishakti. It's the one place where I managed to learn anything. Which is why I keep going back there,' said Fazal, referring to Adishakti Theatre Arts, a laboratory for theatre art research based in Tamil Nadu.

New innovations offer hope for Parkinson's patients but awareness remains key, say UAE experts
1 May 2025 01:23 SARA ALZAABI (ABU DHABI)Even though Parkinson's cases are expected to rise globally in the coming years, new technologies offer hope to patients suffering from the disease, doctors told Aletihad. These are among the talking points as healthcare experts wrapped up Parkinson's Awareness Month in April. Recent innovations such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) have completely transformed outcomes for Parkinson's patients, said Dr. Shivam Om Mittal, Staff Physician at the Neurological Institute at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi.'DBS helps control symptoms with remarkable precision, letting patients walk, work, and live independently even after medications lose effectiveness,' Dr. Mittal said. Dr. Jawad Fazal, Neurology Consultant at Burjeel Medical City, agreed that Parkinson's treatments have now gone beyond traditional medications.'When medication becomes less effective or causes side effects, we have alternatives like DBS surgery, continuous dopamine infusion, and devices like Pathfinder to aid mobility,' Dr. Fazal said. In the UAE and many parts of the world, genetics has helped experts tailor more precise therapies for young-onset and familial cases, Dr. Mittal said. 'The future is bright,' he said. 'Brain-sensing DBS is already a huge step forward. Soon, we'll have closed-loop systems that automatically adjust stimulation, and AI will allow us to predict symptom changes and customise treatments even more precisely. We are heading toward a highly dynamic, truly personalised model of Parkinson's care — and Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi is right at the forefront of that shift.'All these innovations offer new hope despite projections that more people could suffer from the disease decades from now. "Research predicts that Parkinson's cases will more than double by 2050,' Dr. Mittal said. 'People are living longer, and diagnosis is improving — but environmental and lifestyle factors might also be playing a role. Another trend that's worrying is the increase in younger patients developing Parkinson's." Early Signs, Symptoms As the world comes to terms with the disease, the experts call for greater awareness and support beyond therapies and medications. "The key thing about Parkinson's is awareness — it's a condition that predominantly affects people over the age of 50 or 60. Patients often notice a tremor developing, usually in one hand, although it can affect both sides,' Dr. Fazal said."Other signs include slower movements and changes in walking patterns, like shuffling. Sometimes, the patients themselves notice these symptoms, but often it is their family members who pick up on the changes first," he symptoms may appear early, too, Dr. Fazal said. "Parkinson's can have a genetic component, even in younger individuals."Lifestyle plays a crucial role in managing the disease, with regular exercise and a healthy diet among the top essentials. "We're very fortunate in Abu Dhabi to have access to nearly all the treatments available worldwide,' Dr. Fazal said. 'Most patients are managed successfully with medications, and all the latest medications are readily available here.' Abu Dhabi is very advanced when it comes to the diagnosis, management, and treatment of Parkinson's disease, he added. 'Patients here have access to a level of care that's on par with leading centres internationally.'

Amritsar: Following India's decision to suspend passenger movement through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) at the Attari Indo-Pak international border after the Pahalgam terror attack , the Border Security Force (BSF) chose not to open the border gates or engage in the customary handshake with their counterparts from the Pakistan Rangers during the daily Beating Retreat ceremony . Atul Fulzele, inspector general, BSF, Punjab Frontier, said on Thursday that while the BSF would continue to conduct the daily flag-lowering ceremonies at Attari, Sadiqi, and Hussainiwala, it would neither open the border gates nor engage in the customary handshake with the Pakistan Rangers. He further said that in light of the tensions between the two countries, the BSF deployed Quick Reaction Teams (QRTs) and implemented anti-drone measures along with other security measures at all three border posts as well as along the international border with Pakistan. 28 leave for Pak At the same time cutting short their visit, many Pakistani nationals reached the Attari international border on their way back home on Thursday. As many as 105 passengers arrived from Pakistan, while 28 left for Pakistan, and their numbers could increase manifold in the next couple of days. However, they were compelled to cut their visit short and return following the Pahalgam attack. Similarly, Mansoor, another Pakistani national who was in India on a 90-day visa, said that innocent individuals like him were being made to suffer for the actions of others. Over 300 Sikh devotees cross border On the other hand, the movement of Sikh devotees to Pakistan through the ICP at Dera Baba Nanak remained unaffected on Thursday. A total of 493 devotees registered for a day-long pilgrimage to Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Kartarpur Sahib in Pakistan via the Kartarpur corridor. Fulzele said that of these, 334 devotees crossed the border to pay obeisance at the revered Sikh shrine, where Guru Nanak Dev, the first Sikh Guru, spent the final 18 years of his life. The devotees were scheduled to return to India by evening. BOX TRANSIT TIES TORN Samjhauta suspension Various transportation means between the two countries had come to a standstill following the strained relations between the two countries. The Samjhauta Express used to run between Attari (India) and Lahore (Pakistan) every Thursday and Monday, covering a distance of nearly 29 km. The train remained suspended from Dec 10, 1992, to Jan 1, 2003, as an aftermath of the Babri Masjid demolition and then from Dec 31, 2001, to Jan 15, 2004, and then post-Pulwama attack. Two companies of Indo Indo-Tibetan Border Police were also deployed at several places in Chamba. The sensitivity of the Chamba-Doda border stems from the events of Aug 3, 1998, in which Pakistan-sponsored militants infiltrated from Doda into Chamba and brutally shot dead 35 migrant labourers in the villages of Kalaban and Satrundi in Chamba district following which Chamba police set up permanent posts on inter-state roads and hills. The SSP said that, apprehending the influx of tourists into the popular destinations of Chamba, police also took suitable measures at places including Khajjiar. MSID:: 120584802 413 |

A travel-fintech app uses AI search to cut through digital clutter. It saves employees more than 1,500 hours every month.
had its internal information scattered across several workspace platforms. The company built an artificial intelligence search tool to make a tool hub. This article is part of "Build IT: Connectivity," a series about tech powering better business. The tools meant to streamline work can leave businesses stuck in a maze of messages, documents, and dashboards. a travel and finance platform on which customers can book hotels and earn cash and rewards, depends on various workspace platforms, including Slack, Confluence, and GitLab, to keep the business humming. Hussein Fazal, CEO, told Business Insider that juggling systems often slowed down day-to-day tasks. Documents, datasets, and message exchanges were scattered across platforms, which made it difficult for teams to access what they needed when they needed it. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company decided to permanently switch to remote work, which Fazal said added an extra challenge to information retrieval. As a result, needed a central system to access information from all of its platforms. "It's hard to just pick up information, and it can sometimes even be hard to get information," he said. decided to build a hub that its employees could access from home. In 2022, the company teamed up with Glean, an AI startup in Palo Alto, California, to create a search platform that pulls information from across software programs. Enterprise search is software that allows users to look for information across various platforms and databases. Glean's platform uses ranking algorithms and generative artificial intelligence to make it easier for users to find what they're looking for. "Glean will find the right information and produce an answer in natural language, à la ChatGPT, but with the information in the context of your enterprise," Tamar Yehoshua, the president of product and technology at Glean, told BI. She said that it's not as straightforward as putting all the information together into one big pot. Different employees have different access permissions, so each search needs to be customized for whoever is using it. integrated the company's most-used apps and tools, such as Slack, Confluence, GitLab, and Google Drive, into one hub. "It's personalized," she said. "It will find the information that is more relevant to you, as opposed to me, if we're in different roles and in different teams." Yehoshua said the setup process could be challenging since some companies struggle with managing who has access to which tools. This means that the software could give out confidential information to employees. To fix this, Glean built a data-governance layer into the search platform, which ensures rigorous access permissions. Fazal said had never had an issue with Glean's search tool giving people information they shouldn't be allowed to see. Yehoshua added that while everybody knows how to search Google, not everyone knows how to write a good AI prompt. Glean also launched a prompt library for which she said helped educate people on how to use the tool. Fazal said he uses the platform multiple times a day. He added that an internal company survey found the search platform has saved employees an average of 20 minutes a day, which adds up to more than 1,500 hours saved each month across the team. The employee survey also found a 20% reduction in onboarding time for new hires. Since their first partnership, in 2022, and Glean have added features to the platform. A generative-AI tool embedded into the platform, for example, helps employees draft emails and prioritize tasks using real-time company data. For instance, if an employee asks, "What are the 10 most important things I should be working on right now?" the AI assistant will use information from Slack and Google Docs to give a customized answer to that employee. Looking ahead, Fazal hopes to incorporate AI agents into the platform. He said the next step after prompting AI to generate a task list would be getting an AI agent to go do those things. For instance, the AI assistant might suggest arranging a meeting as an important task. The agent would then draft emails and book a meeting room to help complete that task. "We're excited to test it out and implement that once it's ready," he said. Read the original article on Business Insider Sign in to access your portfolio
