Jill Sobule dies at 66 in tragic Minnesota house fire; photos reveal severe damage
Singer-songwriter Jill Sobule has been confirmed dead at age 66 following a devastating house fire in Woodbury, Minnesota, early Thursday morning.
Photos released on May 2 reveal the extensive fire damage to the property, with the home's roof collapsed, windows blown out, and smoke-blackened siding indicating the blaze's intensity.
Emergency services received a call around 5:30 a.m. on May 1 reporting an active fire at the residence. Upon arrival, responders found the home fully engulfed in flames. According to police, one person was reported missing inside the house. Tragically, the missing individual, later confirmed to be Sobule, was found deceased inside the structure.
Sobule, known for her iconic 1990s songs 'I Kissed a Girl' and 'Supermodel'—the latter featured in the film Clueless—was in Minneapolis to visit friends, record a podcast episode, and prepare for a Pride Month event titled Jill Sobule Presents Fck 7th Grade & More*.
Photos from the scene show the worst damage near the central entrance, where the upper window was completely destroyed and the interior exposed. The siding was stripped on one side, and the second floor sustained major fire damage.
The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Sobule's identity but has not finalized a cause of death, pending toxicology results. Investigators are working to determine whether she was alive when the fire began, as the cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
Sobule's manager, John Porter, paid tribute, calling her a 'force of nature' and a passionate advocate whose legacy will continue to inspire.
